Persona 5 delayed to Summer 2016 for PS3/PS4

They don't have a European branch so they have to rely on other publishers to do it for them. NISA have been doing an alright job so far but we still have Devil Survivor 2 situations where we don't get it until 5 months after.

Persona Q was a fluke.

if nisa's doing p5, i would think persona 5 will come out as soon as possible. it's a huge title for atlus and i think nisa knows it's a huge title for them as well. the issue becomes coordination between the two companies because it's enormously more difficult for nisa to try and match atlus, especially when the inevitable limited edition happens.

Ughhh. I knew the lack of information didn't feel 'right' for a 2015 release, but still...I wanted to believe. In fact, a fairly significant reason I got a PS4 this year was for P5. But I'd rather them get it right and dialed in, especially as it seems so promising.

So there's still hope for a simultaneous NA/JP launch...

Though, the hardcore denier (which is obviously wrong, i'm going through the 5 stages of grief right now) in me notes that ATLUS USA hasn't announced their delay yet.

Yeah, that's not going to happen. Fall 2016 (more likely Winter) for NA at best and most likely 2017 for Europe. Considering that Atlus is seemingly taking dev tips from SE here another delay can always be possible as well.

Not that it was unexpected, but it's still disappointing that they dropped the ball so hard on community management.

I wonder if Atlus USA was just lied to by Japan or they knew all along and were lying to us.

I didn't think there was any solid evidence in either direction, but my personal reasons for betting on 2015 were:

1) Past track record, the very short announcement -> release timeframe of Persona 3 and Persona 4 (proving they can keep stuff under wraps)
2) A long delay already from 2014 to 2015
3) Atlus USA confirming 2015 again and again

All these together got me to believe in 2015 (in Japan, at least) and while I was wrong, I don't think even now that it was that unfounded.

1)Atlus's previous track record was having at least two major Persona mainline entries. Guess what didn't happen? Traditions tend to get broken.
2) And the fact that we had nothing to show from the delay was more writing on the wall.
3) I don't know why I should place faith in a subsidiary that doesn't make games, only localizing. Especially with a blanket 2015 target with no specific date this late in the game.

you really think someone would do that? just go on the internet and tell lies?

Noooooooooooooooooooo. /DarthVader.

i'm grabbing my games digitally from poor countries like america ( ͡º ͜ʖ ͡º)

Nice. I like to shop on Nuuvem myself when it comes to PC games. I even made a US PSN account for all the US prices but haven't actually bought anything yet.

Not surprised but it's really disappointing.
Also it seems japanese devs are struggling with next gen and I'm baffled that they're still releasing stuff for PS3 in the first place.

I think they underestimated the success of current-gen, and thought people would stick with last-gen.

That's the impression I get from percentage breakdowns of cross-gen games anyway. What did MGSV get, like 2% of sales on PS3?

Then again, maybe the PS3 version of P5 will do better in Japan than the PS4 version, with the PS4's poor sales in that region.

Persona 1 came 1996
Persona 3 came 2006
So I guess it makes sense thqt Persona 5 comes 2016

Disappointed, but can't really say surprised either, since there really hasn't been lot of information about the game thus far. I do have trust in Atlus for them to make this game right.

That's my hope. I have no doubt we'll get Persona 5 as quickly as possible whenever it eventually does release. Worldwide release plzzzz

No way, the PS3 is on the verge of dying off soon. The sales will heavily favour the PS4 version, especially with it being 9 months or so away.

Is there anything between now and then that will drive PS4 sales over there though?

Or does it face the prospect of selling poorly on both as its too late for PS3, and not big enough to sell PS4s?

edit: sorry if this isn't the place to talk about this, its an interesting situation though imo

Sucks that Hardin was so off on this one, but I must say, I've worked with a lot of PR people over the years and he's one of the best by far: Always responsive and helpful; never tries any shady mindgame manipulation shit; super candid about everything. Worth keeping in mind before you pull out the pitchforks!

It was sorta obvious that was gonna happen. Still, I feel bad for those who were insanely hyped for it.

As for me? I still have 3 and 4 waiting on my Vita. Who knows, maybe now I have a chance to catch up and join the hype train. The trailer for 5 did look amazing.

I didn't have a lot of faith in the western release in 2015 but I honestly thought that it could make it in time for December in Japan.
Delay is disappointing but the trailer is amazing, they need to take the time they need.
Can't believe next year we'll get FFXV and Persona 5 :O (and maybe DQXI as well).

It's crazy that they basically delayed it 9-10 months when previously they were adamant about it coming out in less than 4 months. This decision must have been made before E3.

I would guess that Atlus PR on both sides of the pacific knew it wasn't going to make 2015 for a while now but were ordered not to admit it to anyone. Western Atlus being kept in the dark until now is also a possibility, I suppose.
