Where the fuck was the scene where Big Boss (Ahab) is sitting on a Triumph motorcycle smoking a cigar? What happened to a lot of scene's for that matter.

I'm sorry guys, maybe this has been mentioned and answered already.
But I finished the main storyline yesterday....and well, I just don't know how to feel.
And what's this talk about a deleted chapter? I'm seriously confused by all this. Is Konami gonna try and cash in on some kind DLC? Am I missing something here? :(

The scene of the motorcycle was at the end of Mission 46. Are you sure you saw that ending?

No there is no story DLC announced. We are getting some new costumes patched in within the next few weeks and female avatar customization for singleplayer.

Did you get the true ending? Episode 46? You can youtube episode 51, cut content.

I also like how the explanation(s) for Quiet not communicating with writing is "illiterate, dyslexic, or stubborn... maybe?"

Seriously this game doesn't even try to hide how little attention went to the story.

So i just played mission 43. Holy shit... why does the game not have more instances like this? This mission was everything MGS is. Unexpected, twisted, wicked and it hits you right in the gut. THe last bit where the soldiers tell you to decide, as they salute you to PWs theme song.

I felt wrong.

The lighting, the colors, the direction... everything spoke of madness.

Certainly one of the most memorable highlights of this game. Other instances is the prologue and the phantom limbs mission.

But holy cow. This is the first mission where i felt shivers. THe setup is more like the tv show Kojima was after, and very effective. I am also very very grateful that Kojima didn't spoil all of this sequence.

Some cool images i took.

The ending I saw was that of the real Big Boss sitting on the bike. No prosthetic and shrapnel. Go and watch the Garbage/not your kind of people trailer's ending, it has snake sitting on a bike, prosthetic and all!

Yeah that was just misdirection. Not cut content in this case.

Kojima fucks with trailers to not give twists away, like a trailer showing a player Solid Snake on Big Shell in MGS2.

It was clearly a ruse. If they would've shown the real big Boss on the bike then the twist would've been spoiled completely.

Some things were a ruse but the game itself was severely cut due to the change in Konami's CEO and their shift in priorities/mobile future

Also pull out your CE Bluray extras disk or look up Mission 51 on youtube to see the cut content that explains what happen to Eli and Sahlantrop... Metal Gear

Yeah that was just misdirection. Not cut content in this case.

Considering it's the only actual instance of misdirection in any of the trailers (aside from the outright lies about the story) and the amount of scenes that never made it into the game, it's understandable that someone would be led to believe that Venom Snake had a scene of his own like that.

Not even the fact that he's smoking a real cigar matters because Venom Snake smokes real ones too, such as Quiet's birthday present.

Except that's not the "point" of this game at all, just something a few people in denial have conjured out of thin air as a meagre defense. This game does nothing to explain any of Big Boss' actual recorded acts, such as his stints in Kuwait (Sniper Wolf) or Mozambique (Gray Fox).

MGS4, Portable Ops and Peace Walker showcased the man as the legend. He did all the things he was hyped up for, thus making him legendary. He still does all these things. The Phantom Pain just suddenly throws in an unnecessary and nonsensical detour that neither adds or explains anything. He isn't any less of a legend. He just suddenly has a doppleganger who did things nobody knew or cared about before. The status quo is the exact same, nothing is changed or even tipped slightly to one side or another. Big Boss was already a legend after MGS3. First in the black ops world, and then to the public at large.

We have Venom Snake in Afghanistan, Africa and Outer Heaven... so? The real Big Boss is still running around in other nations when he's supposedly trying to hide from the world--- even though he stated he would face the world at the end of Peace Walker. Why did he need a new passport? Did his old one just say "Big Boss"? If he was using his real name on his old passport, how was he not caught sooner? Why does he even need a new passport when he has a private army and can just hop in any number of fucking choppers or planes? He was still active not only as a mercenary, but also as commander of FOXHOUND, a high-profile role. He was also closely followed by the mass media and his face was widely known around the world. Anyone that saw or scanned his new passport would instantly recognize him. And don't give me that "he changed his face" shit because he didn't.

Trying to defend this nonsense is an exercise in futility. Kojima is just the M. Night Shyamalan of video games. The stories he's written by himself aren't even decent pulp. They're nonsensical. He cares more about tits than any concrete narrative and he'll achieve tits by any means necessary, even if it means undermining or outright disregarding his own writing. He's a great game designer but an absolutely abysmal writer. Every indication points to Fukushima being where the heart and soul was in MGS1-MGS3, and even the sub-par Portable Ops is better than any of what Kojima shat out afterwards. There's a stark contrast between the games pre-MGS4 and post. It's an incredible difference.

Also what is even the point in having two Outer Heaven logos? Couldn't just retcon with the Venom Snake one like everything else was retconned?

This is just a beautifully articulated set of reasons why this game was such an incredible let down.

Yeah 43 is definately one of the hightlights of the game, fucking crazy mission.

..but Kojima spoiled almost everything. The Nuclear trailer shows Big Boss shooting the 4 DD soldiers, Elegia trailer shows the hallway walk and the crouching in the hallway of dead bodies scene. The "Chapter 2" preview shows Big Boss going in the Quarantine section.

You could see this mission coming from a mile away. That said, the mission itself was really well done with awesome cutscenes.

I agree... but this mission not being a cutscene was special to me. I really felt engaged.

I wish some of hte cutscenes to this game had this level of interaction.

This might be also, the first time i care about what Code Talker has to say in teh game haha. Everything kinda felt in the right place at the right time.

Best mission in the game along with the prologue for me for now. Can't wait to replay it.

Yep.... this is terrible.

First reveal trailer of Kojima, he spoiled EVERY SINGLE BEAT of the prologue.

That mission would've been mind blowing intro to the game. So many surprises. but everything is in the trailer.

TBF, that was before Skull Face wiped out his base and soldiers, along with ZEKE.

How hard would it have been to say that Sniper Wolf met the much more benevolent and heroic Venom Snake while Gray Fox met a now jaded and bloodthirsty Big Boss but felt he owed him for saving his life for the third time? We could've had a young Sniper Wolf instead of that atrocious "character" Quiet. Gray Fox would've been a much better choice for Diamond Dogs' "third in command" instead of babyface Ocelot. We never see how he came to be Big Boss' most trusted lieutenant, he just does. The game was promoted as showing Big Boss' descent to hell but the game shows the polar opposite, it shows him becoming a hero again. He doesn't do anything "demonic" so every time someone mentions demons it's like the characters are in on a joke that the player can't get because it was cut.

Instead we have two versions of Big Boss that are both benevolent heroes who do absolutely nothing wrong at any point in history. The real Big Boss all of a sudden just goes mad in 1999 by all indications, while Venom Snake was the same in 1995 as he was in 1984. Portable Ops and Peace Walker individually were enough of a "missing link", but this game doesn't even attempt to link anything at all. It's a complete detour. There's no progression into MG1, and "The Man Who Sold The World" scene makes no sense because the cutscene feels like it's directed by someone who wrote half of it and then forget what closure means. There's so much wrong with the scene that it's impossible to discern any information from it at all, even when it takes place. If it's meant to be 1995, why does the DD logo change? Why has Venom not aged a day?

Like the game as a whole, it's a detour, it feels like something is supposed to be there in that Truth scene but nothing is. So in that regard the game lived up to its subtitle.

TBF, that was before Skull Face wiped out his base and soldiers, along with ZEKE.

Yet he's still fine and dandy to go around the world doing the exact same things Venom Snake does and what he himself did prior to XOF's attack. But assuming that he actually just stayed with FOXHOUND and it was Venom Snake who globetrotted, then how did Big Boss actually have a downfall at all? He had no stressful experiences. He never dealt with child soldiers. He never had anyone die on him. So on and so forth. Big Boss isn't even a character in this game, he's an empty presence. He should at least be like he was at the end of Peace Walker but there's nothing of the sort in this game, if anything he regressed into some totally neutral force who just wants to chill until he all of a sudden goes nuts.

Seriously this game doesn't even try to hide how little attention went to the story.
Dyslexia is such a perfectly idiotic way to explain a person's pathological refusal to communicate. "I dunno, maybe her handwriting is also kinda messy?"

They know that she can write stuff with bullets, so maybe they should go ahead and dedicate one of the platforms to communicating with Quiet. Fill one of those things with crates.
Commencing Quiet's Big Dumb Notebook platform construction.

I agree with the game feeling like a "detour" storywise, but this is the same way Peace Walker felt by the end. In both games you're led to believe you're building up an army which will lead into Outer Heaven and it would close off the story chain in the series. Both times they turned out to be "well not really" instead. But it is what it is. :P

Peace Walker ended perfectly for setting up Outer Heaven, as did Portable Ops and MGS3 before it. The site of Outer Heaven in Africa is mentioned in the tapes and Big Boss' speech to his soldiers at the end cemented his will and goal. He had the soldiers, the money, the resources, the location, etc.

The Phantom Pain is the only exception in the prequels because it doesn't go anywhere or explain anything. If the series were an ECG then TPP is a flatline. It doesn't even slightly address Outer Heaven's future location mentioned in the previous game. I think maybe GZ's timeline mentions some abandoned nuclear facility in South Africa but it's never brought up again as I recall.

Just finished this a few hours ago, watched a lot of cut scenes and read for a bit and such. I won't go into details about my disappointment as many have articulated everything I had to say and than some.

Anyway I have two questions:

1. IIRC in pre release trailers there was a scene in Africa with child soldiers being taught to handle the AKs but I haven't seen that scene in the game

2. V has come to... Any more explanations for the V except for "Venom"

I get it that V could stand for "Venom" but I kinda thought that Venom is internal name for BB given by those that knew about the ruse. So doctors and nurses couldn't know about it. On the other hand perhaps it was just code name or something and they knew him as one. No idea just felt as more than V for Venom for me but I could be overthinking this one :)

Yes Peace Walker ends by "setting up" Outer Heaven. but it was clear that whatever you did throughout the game wasn't quite Outer Heaven yet. Same with MPO. MGSV is the same way. I'm mostly talking about how throughout each of the games, you're doing stuff that you would expect Big Boss to do in creating Outer Heaven, but you're really just creating something else... a proto-Outer Heaven. For some reason, Kojima never wanted to just make it simple. I think that's what makes it irritating, and in MGSV, the effect is emphasized because this is the third time you're playing a Big Boss story where you're "building an army" but it's a "troll" yet again.

I mean I can't blame Big Boss for leaving he probably figured out that he had start a new base and the amount of Human Relations and micromanagement he had to do and thought fuck that shit.

After spending ages moving my soldiers to quarantine I don't blame him

something that is weird, why is the knife slit in multiplayer look more gruesome and sadistic in the multiplayer game compared to single player. In single player the fraud snake just stabs the enemies chest pretty much, I was watching the stream and Ocelot took the knife and slit the enemy right across the throat

Ok seriously is Revolver Ocelot actually gay?

"There's nothing like the feeling of slamming a long silver bullet into a well greased chamber."

Big Boss to Ocelot: "It's a nice gun, I'll give you that. But the engravings give you no tactical advantage whatsoever, unless you were planning to auction it off as a collectors item. Besides, you're forgetting one more, very basic thing. You don't have what it takes to kill me."

Ocelot: [Big Boss, surrounded by the Ocelot unit, assumes his CQC fighting stance] What is that stance? And that gun?
[the Ocelot unit all laugh at Big Boss]
Ocelot: [Ocelot flips out his gun and catches it with his right hand] If you're not The Boss... then die!
[Ocelot pulls the trigger, but his gun jams, then Snake proceeds to take down him and every GRU surrounding him]
Big Boss: You ejected the first bullet by hand, didn't you? I see what you were trying to do, but testing a technique you've only heard about in the middle of battle wasn't very smart. You were asking to have your gun jam on you. Besides, I don't think you're cut out for an automatic in the first place; you tend to twist your elbow a little to absorb the recoil. That's more of a revolver technique.
Ocelot: [pulls out a knife] You... filthy American dog!
[attacks Big Boss, but Big Boss easily takes him down]
Big Boss: But, that was some fancy shooting. You're pretty good.
Ocelot: Pretty good...
[passes out]

Ocelot: What's your name?
Big Boss: Snake.
Ocelot: No, not that name. You're not a snake, and I'm not an ocelot. We're men with names. My name... is Adamska. And you?
Big Boss: John.
Ocelot: Plain name. But I won't forget it.

---

I dunno, you tell me. He certainly has a healthy respect for Big Boss after Big Boss tries to stop him from being a complete "screw-up" in MGS3.

Why couldn't this game have just been "Build Outer Heaven the game". There are so many game design tricks you could employ to make it a contained zone without being surrounded by an ocean.

When you think about the timeline, building a second mother base that is never used again is just bizarre. They could have even used the same stupid wolbachia copulation plot. Just explain away how they would keep it from spreading with quarantining everyone in one of the basement levels of Outer Heaven.

Instead you're rehashing Peace Walker, just like MGS2 rehashed MGS1.

Here is a bit that I'm still not clear on? Why did Skull Face even go after Big Boss? Was it just to try and lure Zero out? Why did he then go after him in the hospital, just afraid he'd come looking for revenge? If Zero was his target, going after BB is a helluva detour.

The Diné spoke of a parasites that gave man the gift of lenge-wedge. The Wolbachia will turn the male parasites ... into female, removing their ability to cop-hulate and reproduce.

The second one of puppy DD!

The whole end of mission 12 which was a genuine surprise, in part because the Sahelanthropus trailer implied that would be its first proper reveal and it wasn't.

The last one with Volgin. There weren't many.

Was there a single cutscenece that didn't appear one way or the other in one of the trailers? I mean, we even had fucking parts of the ending cutscenes.

Before the end of E3 2013, we had
Mother Base destruction
Hospital massacre
"What about him?" - Yikes, how do you give this away
Fire Volgin (and his chase scene in the prologue)
Psycho Mantis
Not-so-subtle Liquid's introduction scene
Code Talker
The Skulls
Quiet reveal
Mid-Ch 1 scene featuring Huey
Skull Face greeting Snake after hopping off the chopper (EPISODE THIRTY BTW)

Which is why it feels so incomplete to me. Like, what? He was showing off scenes from Mission 30 over two years ago but the story ends not too long after that? Welp.

I get that Kojima has shown off key moments in trailers before, but never has he shown off every single scene and key moment in the game like he did here. As Duckroll said, the Quiet rain scene may be the only thing not shown off prior to release. I remember people talking about "oh nao gamescom trailer not directed by kojima will ruin everything" hahahahahaha tbh

Tell more about these Vocal Cord Parasites. Do the Vocal Cord Parasites live in the Vocal Cords? Will vocalization trigger the Vocal Cord Parasites?

lol

To your original question, though, the best answer I've heard (and if it is the case it isn't presented well in the game) is the Skull Face targeted Big Boss because it was the easiest way to get a Zero. You target Big Boss, Zero starts making predictable moves to protect his friend, Zero becomes an easier target.

Though, as you realized, it doesn't really explain coming after him in the hospital, because Zero had already been attacked by that time.

Don't forget they also showed several shots from the quarantine base mission too (Mission 43 IIRC) : BB shooting his own soldiers, him walking down the hall with motherbase soldiers dead everywhere.

The trailers even showed the real Big Boss getting on his motorcycle, I even noticed and thought it was weird that BB didn't have that horn in that scene when I saw the trailer way back lol
