Persona 5 TGS trailer

Persona 5 takes place in 2016 based on those dates, so we won't be playing a "near future" game like we did for Persona 3 (which took place in 2009) and Persona 4 (which took place in 2011).

Good citizens don't willingly get exploited or enable exploitative business practices!
Is charging for dual audio really exploitation? It's known that licensing voices for other regions costs money. It's way more justified than on disc DLC costs and stuff.

Tbh I have no interest in playing the game dubbed, especially given the quality of recent Atlus dubs.

Just found out it's Jun Fukuyama voicing the protagonist. ;0; So beautiful.

I'm glad they are going ahead and just giving the protagonist a voice and clear personality. I mean P3 and P4's main character had some semblance of a personality behind the whole "silent protagonist" bit. Glad they are just going all the way with it. At least the P4 anime and P3 movie do both protagonists justice.

Lol, dude voiced Lelouch.

I wonder who will voice P5's protagonist in the english release. Yuri Lowenthal and Johnny Yong Bosch have done MCs already. Personally, I hope it's Nolan North, because fuck it. Imagine seeing the protagonist go Oh No, Oh No Ohhh Nonononononononono every time something bad in a heist happens

This was the part that isn't in the trailers, btw:

A CRT tv, and those look like Famicom controller. MC needs to get with the times man.

Is it confirmed that the voice actor won't just be grunting or whatever during battles? Like is he actually getting lines?

I doubt he'll be talking normally like the rest of the cast. Maybe just when he's in Phantom mode.

So just guessing here but, Ryuji's Persona is probably a famous pirate (blackbeard?) and my guess for Annes persona right now is Bonnie from the real person of Bonnie and Clyde.

Morgana's persona is definitely Puss and Boots, only one I can't guess is the Tanuki mask one.

P3 and P4 spoilaz

probably just voicing the villian again...it's tradition

yes I know it was an english only thing chill

That's just the impression I got from the trailers, that he would just go ahead and talk, but hey I dunno. Maybe it will just be silent protagonist again.

I kinda hope not, I think it would be cooler if he went ahead and just talked.

Probably a good idea to have the protagonist talk more with how many fucking spin offs the games get. However, I better still be able to be a total asshole through the dialog options.

Protagonist talking and having some semblance of a predetermined personality is only a good thing.

They need to take into consideration what happens after this game. Chances are it's going to be as popular as P3 and 4 were. They don't need to find themselves in a situation where all these sequels and adaptions are happening, but the main character was originally a mute.

It's also just another good way to differentiate P5 from 3/4. Switch it up.

It means that the P3/P4 crew will be on their early 20s on the next crossovers. lol

I hope not. Persona needs to move past the silent protagonist and the P5 looks like he's be a great character.

You're probably right though since it looks like we can name him again.

NewJun's Persona looks like someone from the Edo period.

A quick google search told me of Nezumi Kozō, a famous thief during the Edo period who stole from the rich and gave to the poor, a Japanese Robin hood of sorts.

By day Nezumi-Kozo was a common labourer and a part-time volunteer in the local fire brigade. But he lived a mysterious double life.

By night he was Japan’s most prolific thief, carrying out daring robberies from the estates of Tokyo’s feudal lords and their samurai warriors.

Could be him, could be someone else entirely.

He talked in PV02. He also talked in Persona Super Live 2015 before the reveal.

Oh, OK. Sounds good. :) Too bad we'll probably not get dual audio.

it looks gorgeous

In Persona Games can you also interact with the NPC in the cities or visit the shops?

Persona's all about talking to NPCs lol. There are shops and different locations to visit too. Exploration outside of the main dungeon was pretty barebones in P3P though (haven't played P4), but it looks like they're vastly improving exploration this time around.

Close, but I fully believe that not-Jun's Persona has to be Ishikawa Goemon, because Katsura Hashino explicitly stated that that was one of his 3 "Phantom" inspirations for Persona 5.

Yeah I don't know many Japanese thieves, so it was a blank to me. I wonder if we will get a Persona thief from every nationality.

I watched Ant-man recently, I loved that it was basically a Marvel heist movie. I'm digging the idea of a JRPG where robberies, heists, and capers are the focus. Loving the thief motif as well. Especially since Rogues/Thieves/Bards are my favorite archetype.

Persona 5 is the Persona made more me.

DAT TOKYO!
Holy shit, well designed dungeons in my Persona?!
You can jump into paintings!
Baseball!
MORGANA'S PERSONA IS ZORRO?

GOTY 2015 IS- wait...?

Summer 2016

... Who is doing this? Such a lust for delays...
WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!?

I'm ashamed of my words and deeds

I'd like him to talk too but the Main characters in Persona have always been an extension of You the player and once you give too much personality to the main character, there could be some disconnect between You and the MC.

But it definitely feels like the MC has some very distinctive personality from the trailers and they have Jun Fukuyama voicing him so maybe there's a lot more going on than what we know.

I read up on Goemon and you might be right on that, he seems more appropriate than Nezumi Kozo for the tone of the game. I hope NewJun won't meet his end like Goemon did his, yikes.

Yeah I don't know many Japanese thieves, so it was a blank to me. I wonder if we will get a Persona thief from every nationality.

It is possible. Maybe for the rest of the unknown cast. There's gotta be more than just the five we know.

I'd think Zorro is more likely for Morgana. Her persona looks like it draws a Z when summoned to me.

Just gonna point out about the whole Protagonist talking thing that on his character page on the official site he has two voice clips, one of his Persona shout and another actual thing that isn't just a voice grunt. I'm willing to bet they're making him more than a silent protagonist.

He's also the one in PV#03 saying, "We'll have time to worry about that later" to Anne while they're escaping.

Regarding Hashino's inspirations for "Phantoms," the only outstanding one is "The Fiend With Twenty Faces." I expect that to be plainly represented in Persona 5, just like Arsene and Goemon.

No they haven't. Maybe certain players, but certainly not all like any good self insert protag should be (coughCharacterCreatorcough).

Good citizens don't willingly get exploited or enable exploitative business practices!

Charging more for the Japanese audio isn't exploitative, though. The voice acting industry in Japan is starkly different from that in the US, from the voice recording procedure to payment method (contract vs. per hour basis).

Yeah, it's not exactly subtle.

Also, look how he seems to have a rapier, mask and mustache, just like Zorro.

That cross on his shoulders is called Cercelée but I couldn't find any relevant connections.

If we played this game when it was originally supposed to come out, we would have been :P

Wow, man. I just checked out. Looks incredible. So cool and unique. So vibrant in a time in which so many games lack that magical style. Wow. Music delivers, too, what a shocker. Yeah, it's upsetting that it got pushed back to 2016 but no doubt that it'll be a timeless classic.

Good news if the Protagnist isn't a mute. It'd be a shame not to make use of Jun's voice, he can get so disgustingly amazing sometimes, not that he isn't good all the time, but yeah. Hype.

Jun Fukuyama?

fuck fuck fuck

Why do I get stuck with a shitty dub Atlus? Oh man this sucks. Why can't I just pay extra for the Japanese cast?
