SPOILER: Metal Gear Solid V Spoiler Thread | Such a lust for conclusion, T-WHHOOOO

I assumed it was either for mistreatment during her detainment, or the guy with the now destroyed teeth tried to... you know.

People keep saying that the gameplay was flawless, but I don't know if I'd agree.

The controls were often too complicated for their own good as navigating through your weapons and items were too cumbersome. And the combat and CQC didn't flow as well as say Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence which had much better flow.
Could not disagree more.

Praising the controls and flow of past MGS games over this one seems utterly insane to me. They took pointers for the control scheme from the contemporary standard instead of trying to solve something that had already been solved on their own (and failing hard) - the game is better off for it.

the real mgsv is out there somewhere. the game we got is nothing but a phantom.

:( I need to get this game out of my head. It gets worse each day passes.

The guy had parasites in him. The whole point of Quiet not speaking is to protect Venom from the Parasite. That guy was a threat to everything she was doing.

Didn't it have something to do with the infection at MB? I think someone said something about her being able to recognize who was infected, it was pretty confusing.

It really annoys me that Quiet wouldn't communicate in writing or something.

Yeah, of course the story could go anywhere, but I'm saying there's no narrative arc leading to any of that. At the end of 51, the parasites are burned, Quiet's gone, Eli's presumed dead, Huey's exiled... The notion that this game was supposed to have not only a more fleshed out Chapter 2 but an entire Chapter 3 with entirely new plot lines is pretty unrealistic. Not to mention incredibly incompetent on Kojima's part, planning a game so massive it could never be completed properly in 5 years of development.

Like with the Battle Gear stuff, you notice something's missing. All those scenes were clearly leading to something which got cut, just like 51.
We have dispatches to southamerica and it was mentioned before. Something was there. Maybe more parasites. Code Talker was just a researcher who played with corpses, we don't know yet how the Cobra Unit got their powers. Also remember that his was supposed a narrative bridge and it... actually didn't bridge anything, but how Big Boss not died once.

I just realised we didn't find out what happened with quiet and the 3 guards that she attacked and almost killed with a knife before Venom turned up...? Or did we?
Erm. Yes. The guard she attacked was the first infectes. She could feel it and tried to speak the language of lunatic with a knive.

Oh, was it in the tapes? I admit to not listening to most of those.

I think MGSV would've been a good start to a new MGS series, like the TR reboot or RE4. (Yes, I know it's a direct sequel to PW) Now it's just... a somewhat disappointing conclusion, on most fronts. I'm sure people could handle at least one more game with V's core gameplay, but better fleshed out, and with an improved narrative. Otherwise MGSV is just the learning process with no future payoff.

MGS3 will always be the best start for newcomers. And the best one in general.

I finally have 100% completion (yay!) I was planning to keep playing the game for a while, replaying missions with different tactics and doing FOB stuff, but honestly, I don't feel like playing anymore. I love the gameplay, but removing Quiet from the game (again, what a dumb decision) has turned me off the game.

Guess I'll play some PS Plus games till Halo 5...

I'm really apprehensive about listening to any industry spoiler talk because I can't see them doing anything other than defending this so they can stand by their inflated scoring of the game. It'll probably just piss me off.

Brad and Jason seemed pretty down on how the story ended while Dan and maybe Jeff loved it in the last Bombcast. Which is what you'd expect I think.

As soon as we found out about vocal parasites, it was clear to me that she was trying to cut out his tongue to prevent him from talking.

I at 750k and get S occasionally. Still looking for S+ though

There's something else that decides what rank of soldiers you get; I started seeing S guys when I had around 400k heroism. I'm in the high 600k's now and still haven't seen an S+.

I do have one S+ and one S++ in each category though, don't know where they came from.

I thought wearing the Naked Gold skin + the gold arm made every soldier S rank, because when I first used it, the first 7 guys I came across were all S in single or multiple categories -- but that was just a lucky fluke because it hasn't happened since.

That guy was infected and Quiet tried to snuff it out before it spread.

Only English? Any person that spoke Kikongo be it their first or second language attracted the first infection.

With him being in a cutscene it's impossible to know what else he spoke, but all we know is he spoke English. With Quiet's abilities, if it was something as serious as the infection getting out, she could have killed anyone who she knew was infected at night in their sleep if necessary, why do it in broad daylight in front of multiple people? Oh yeah, because Kojima has no sense of subtlety.

On the other hand we've seen how she responds to being sexually harassed. Quite violently.

A lot of people seem to be misreading this encounter as a rape attempt.

That's how I took it, until someone told me otherwise. Quiet realises that guy has the parasite, so she immediately turns into a non-communicative psycho and tries to stab him in the mouth for some reason. At least it made sense when I figured she was shoving her knife down his throat in retaliation for him trying to shove something down her throat.

I feel like Kojima really couldn't decide whether Quiet was supposed to just not talk or whether she shouldn't be able to communicate at all, and just did whatever made the scene he was writing work. When you get that "Boss, you stink" scene with Quiet as a buddy, she steps in front of you and gives a perfectly understandable, "ey yo, follow me" head movement; in the field she'll throw out a thumbs up, or hum when she's in position. Other times, though, she seems completely incapable of any kind of communication whatsoever, for no reason. Kojima apparently wants us to buy that the only languages she speaks are English and motherfucking Navajo, and that she can't write or type or play charades, because otherwise nothing about her character works.

Brad was the one who gave it 5/5 stars and he is the one who dislikes the story..

I remember Kojima commenting that he wanted to make a WWII game featuring The Joy... who is this guy?
The quote suggests that it was
The Sorrow
dying in Egypt, and the pin given to Boss (The Joy). He worked under her same as End, Fury, Pain and Fear.
They were lovers and Sorrow is Ocelot's dad

She shot HBD into a crate on his birthday. And it's very unlikely that she learned this and then stopped studying english. She also talks perfectly - if with slight dialect when she talks to Pequod.

Brad, who did the review, doesn't seem to be really positive on the story yet. At least the twist.

Afraid not.

The Joy is The Boss' codename as part of The Cobras.

You still think The Boss, Mercury Lady, Voyevoda and The Joy were the same person? Voyevoda was oldest and was the first Boss before her phantoms took up the title, so I'd guess the pin was hers, especially since she was Zero's first wife.

It took me awhile to even accept that Quiet and the XOF soldier at the beginning were the same person- they just seemed so disparate in character, barring physical appearance. I was thinking that maybe she was her civilian twin sister, who underwent experimentation in order to get revenge on Venom for killing her sibling. Not the case, but it's what I considered for a bit.

Ten minutes into the Giant Bomb spoilercast they talk about more of a fight club twist. Like, imagine if Miller was never there and it was Big Boss associating some of his actions to Miller.

I would have preferred that to Medic Boss.

Sorry, got to kill you, the Kojima spread to your fingers.

oh god no.

The tape says the mystery man died in Egypt in 1941, well before The Boss became The Boss (or even The Joy, for that matter). The Sorrow survives all the way through WW2, goes back to the Soviet Union, and then meets The Boss again in 1962 in Tselinoyarsk, where she kills him (you can actually see his skeleton during the Virtuous Mission, if you look all the way over to the left after The Boss throws you off the bridge and you have to heal your wounds).
