Phil Spencer Discusses Why FFXIV Isn't on Xbox (Contradictions?)

But wasn't 11 on 360 cross play? Mind you, that was back when Microsoft was really really tight about that sort of stuff, so I'd be surprised if the new Microsoft Anywhere approach had an issue with cross play in a franchise that already had it previously on the platform.

Difference is that was a time when MS was doing anything and everything to get final fantasy and SE on the 360.

We've tried in the past to get multi platform multiplayer. MS was what ruined it. They required every username to be tied to a gamer tag. Full stop. Sony and Nintendo were very flexible. MS designed their policies to be a walled garden. Unless your game does everything for the Microsoft passport account, you're fucked.

Everyone are trying to create a garden of some sort. Companies want to keep their consumers within their ecosystem so that they can maximize profit from them. It is why Sony for instance got PS+, PS Now and PS Vue.

Who is this woman?!

Phil Spencer seriously makes me wish Don Mattrick never left. Mattrick told the truth. It wasn't the truth we wanted to HEAR nor was it pleasant but it was the truth regardless.

I forgot who it was, but there was a Gaffer who gave off a similar warning -"Ya'll all miss Mattrick when the next Xbox head tells nothing but lies"- or some such. Well, look where we are.

Never understood why Statham continues to surf GAF when he posts like he loathes this place with every fiber of his being. Dude is sooooo tsundere :^)

Perhaps because he loves the spirit in which GAF was created, but abhors the unfair criticisms leveled at industry figures.

So Phil Spencer has done nothing but tell us lies?

I'm making it sound more simple then it could be, not more complicated. it's more then likely a lot more complicated. Xbox live games wouldn't be able to communicate with PS4 servers unless PS4 servers could decrypt the MS security. MS builds the protection support into Xbox games, where Sony doesn't require it. Ever seen any xbox live games hacked beyond simple things made possible with Cain & Abel?

There's potentially other reasons these have always been separated, I'm sure we could dig them up. But as usual I think nobody here would be interested in investigating. Instead everyone is piling on Phil, without having any information, they are saying he's lying, MS doesn't play nice etc. Hardly anyone here is even suggesting technical limitations being a factor.
No one is suggesting technical limitations because the evidence in front of us suggests politician reasons before technical limitations come into play . You're the one trying to push this angle of "encryption" and the like so why should the onus rest on us when you're the one suggesting these things without anything to backup your points.
Whatever happened to Detective GAF?
What happened to backing up conspiracy theories.

I-it's not like I like gaf or anything, b-baka!

What happened to backing up conspiracy theories.

Phil said that he cannot speak candidly about the issue.

So anyone offering up alternate reasons should offer proof.

We have what Yoshida stated, but this does not necessarily invalidate the reasons that MS may have for not opting in.

Security may be one issue. But again, the simple fact is that we don't know MS's reasons.

This thread has devolved into ridiculing GAF members and calling Phil Spencer a liar. I think that it has run its course.

I wonder if Phil was thinking of one of the other Final Fantasy exclusives Sony has with SE. There is a pretty good amount of them.

If not, is it that much harder to say some nonsense about "ensuring the best online experience for our users" or "we're looking into options in the future" than chalking it up to exclusivity?

With numerals?, I only count two FFX/X-II those are the only he could've gotten confused with why it isn't on Xbox One.

I really hope that he just confuse with the numerals when he said that. But also if that is the case, it really in a way it doesn't inspire confident to get more japanese support in the one if he is confusing their games.

Part of the reason I still have a PS4 is because of XIV. Which is kinda crazy to think about. I wish it was on the Xbox but eh

I hope MS changes its stance on this kind of thing in the future.

Wow @ statham. That's quite a reaction.

The Xbox group seems like an outlier when looking at their other groups. I honestly can't see the harm of allowing cross-console multiplayer.

The only way to make that post cognitive is if you dismiss Xbox under Phil Spencer and Windows 10. Both products are now a result of user feedback, and the continuation of the preview/insider program - for both products - should give you an idea that this is a long term effort.

It added nothing to this topic. And people should be quite able to comment on GAF threads on Twitter without indirectly derailing the thread.

A lot of the most requested features on Xbox Feedback has either been delivered or announced.
Saying that Microsoft got no intent on listening to gamers in the long run are baseless assumptions.
Too much logic for this thread.

This thread is embarrassing.

That's somewhat scummy level of PR. He try's to lay the blame on Sony for a money hat, which he claims to not like, while its an MS policy keeping the game off the system

He probably posts on that racist, bitter anti-GAF Reddit/voat with a different user. They hate GAF but stalk every thread and stays in poster's personal lives.

Yeah this guy likes his xbox, he must be a racist asshole!

you are saying he's stalking, but you guys go an look up his twitter like that, I'd say he's not the one stalking people

It's the all or nothing approach, if for example your friends all were playing a multiplatform game on xbox even though you only have a playstation, microsoft wouldn't make any money from you playing it on your playstation device so they instead lock the multiplayer out to be xbox specific so in order to play with your friends you have to buy an xbox and get xbox live as well.

It doesn't make sense in the case of FFXIV because no one can play it on xbone. Maybe he's holding out hope that SE will change their stance first but that would be really dumb. It's really been a mystery to me why he won't allow cross platform play.

I get that concept but it's an incredibly shitty one. It's regression in an age of progression. The Xbox group has been working steadily to improve the platform but still fall backwards on key issues (indie gaming policies; now cross-platform gaming).

If anything, Sony should be the one preventing cross-platform play to encourage sales 'among friends'.

10 pages for a thread where the answer is in the OP?
If you've got a dev and a PR guy saying something that contradict each other, it's safe to say the dev is closer to the truth.
Heck if WiiU was more popular you would probably be able to play FFXIV on WiiU too.
It's kinda like the indie dev kerchufle, MSFT changed the head of Xbox but the policies stay the same.
If you want to dismiss the possibility that someone doing PR could mislead its customers....
Yeah.

If you didn't follow the series closely and had folk asking about things like the FF7 remake on twitter I could see your mind getting things mixed together in an interview. Not remembering why an FF MMO, that doesn't seem to get as many request to come to XB1 as other SE JRPGs, isn't coming to your system distinct from other SE exclusives is something I could see happening.

He's supposedly a gamer so I would expect him to know a bit about the industry.

This question was made in a podcast I'm pretty sure he can't get confused by I guy asking him why isn't FF14 Online on XB1 and why isn't FF7 Remake on XB1, pretty sure they sound complety unlike each other.

I don't see how your post contribute to the topic. It's more of a petty attempt to smear a user here on NeoGAF. If you disagree with that user on Twitter, then go and tell them there.

I don't see how stathams tweet contributes to the topic. It's more a petty attempt to smear neogaf. If statham disagrees with that user on neogaf then he can go and tell them there.

Fixed.

Yeah.

We need to hear the podcast to see if those 2 sentences came one after the other.

It was? Ok.

I was just going off the article where you didn't see the phrasing of the question. If that's out there and it makes mention of 14 Online than my comment can't really fit.

Why? What does that change?
The thing is we know why FFXIV is not on Xbox, Yoshida told us already.
Spencer can spin this however the hell he wants, it doesn't change that we know why that is.
The fact that it is because MSFT doesn't accept how SE does MMOs or some petty BS doesn't change the fact that unless MSFT allow Yoshida's team to provide the vision they have in mind it changes nothing.
Even if Spencer is confused or not even talking about FFXIV changes nothing.

I may well be a bitter, angry, hateful fanboy but at least I know that repocussion isn't a word.

Also, since when have bitter, angry and hateful been negatives? They've always worked really well for me. They'll be telling me that my misanthropy is a bad thing next, stupid bastards!!
