The only reason Square was able to get FFXI on Xbox 360 is Microsoft was desperate for anything FF on their box. This was when PS2 was still a monster, and 360 was starting up, no PS3 on the scene iirc. FFXI worked on PS3 also but only because of BC. Now Microsoft don't need Square and can make these demands even if they miss out on the games. That's what has changed.
 
It annoys me when people calls it a pussy move.

I think they need Square. How Square will feel confidence to release their other games (japanese) if the one game they want to release MS do not let them.

In regards to the quote, I think it's either his PR team fudging up, Phil generally being unaware that FF can come to the Xbone, possibly a company policy permitting cross-console play and the most unlikely one, (put conspiracy hats on here) Sony may have a contract permitting it to be on other consoles.

Hopefully what ever happens, the game will come to the Xbone and the NX, I had fun playing it on PS4 and PC.

I dont know the details surrounding why we dont have the game on our platform off the top of my head, but i'll definitely inquire with my team," he should instead disparage the competition and a publishing partner by suggesting there was a backroom deal.

One is a Japan game, and one is not. One can stick to xbox live, and one needs to have cross play. Microsoft call the shots, they are secure in the gaming business now. Square play by their rules or find another house to play in.

The thing is we know why FFXIV is not on Xbox, Yoshida told us already.
Spencer can spin this however the hell he wants, it doesn't change that we know why that is.
The fact that it is because MSFT doesn't accept how SE does MMOs or some petty BS doesn't change the fact that unless MSFT allow Yoshida's team to provide the vision they have in mind it changes nothing.

Sadly he did. Infact I am saddened to say too that it reveals that lifting 30 pounds with your vagina just using an egg with ropes tied around it is a massive story element in final missions before the ending.

It's Cipher's weapon to surpass Metal Gear.

Yoshida has said that Microsoft not wanting cross platform play is the issue every time he's asked. He doesn't give some PR speech or beat around the bush he flat out says that this is the situation and if they don't wanna work with them then it can't happen.

There is no reason to as well. They would have to invest money and man power to make this happen and with the games success they are probably more focused on making money to recoup from the failed original launch. Is it something to do with Xbox Live? I know on PS4 you don't need PS+ to play this game but does Xbox do anything like this with Xbox Live?

There really is no other way for this game to work. It's successful on PS4 and PC but the current game probably couldn't stand on it's own on just one single platform there wouldn't be enough people especially if it was on Xbox one since they would be coming into the game late. What do they do with the Pc players caught in the middle? I coudln't even see a way they could do a Xbox One/PC thing because there are too many people playing together that it would have to splinter the PC players too much in order for that to work.

The whole situation is a shame and Microsoft is denying a good game to it's players because of some petty garbage like this. Hopefully they can get it together because I would be more than happy to see Xbox people join the game, more players to play with and get in on the GAF guilds.

TBH without the context of the question asked to him its difficult to say either way. What if the question was "Why did you not do a deal to bring FFXIV to XB1 when you were working on the Tomb Raider deal?" He misunderstood and answered a question about third party exclusivity.
Context is king but I agree he has somewhat tried to assign blame elsewhere when its clearly MS bullshit cross platform rules that are now having an impact on getting titles to their platform.

Hey guys be nice to statham, he's a friendly dude and very helpful in the Xbox threads. I agree he had a bit of a silly victim complex, but I don't think dogpiling on him for that admittedly dumb tweet is gonna make things better.

This "walled garden" bullshit can only last that long...then I remember that people still believe the "Nintendo seal of quality" actually has anything to do with how good the game is. Kinda how stupid Sony is with refusing EA access. At least the dumb ass reason for not having it...it's always the end user that decides the worth not anyone else.

I thought there was two versions coming to PS4. First they announced the regular version, then later they announced the "remake". Maybe I'm remembering it wrong; and in all honestly it's probably not the case, just a thought.

FYI for people saying MS and Sony consoles can't network with each other:

1) UDP and TDP are universal standards.

2) Game network traffic is generally not encrypted. Because it's too slow to do so (we're talking milliseconds of time to complete communications). Most game hacks are from changing client data, NOT man in the middle attacks that attack the network traffic itself.

3) This is because you try to trust the client as little as possible. In MMOs like Final Fantasy, Square basically trusts you with just about nothing. Your client is a dumb terminal that displays what their server tells you to display. Encryption would be useless since an attacker could just compromise the client.

4) There have been multiple games, like Defiance, that had working MS and Sony versions that could cross communicate. This functionality was removed before ship because Microsoft would not give them an exemption.

5) The only reason this hasn't happened in the real world is because Microsoft doesn't allow it to happen.


No cross platform play between Microsoft and Sony is 100% politics. There are zero technical reasons preventing communication. It's not even a problem between different CPU architectures. How do you think you're communicating with webservers running X86 while you're running an Android ARM phone?

Also, Nintendo allows cross platform play since they've had an actual online directive with the Wii... but Nintendo hasn't had enough third party support yet to have it happen naturally. I imagine if the Wii U had sold enough with enough power we would have already seen FFIV on Nintendo with crossplay w/ Playstation and PC.

it's still outselling the 360 at a consistent rate (I think) and in the U.S, is sorta giving the Ps4 a run for its money too. sales are pretty close.
