Street Fighter V Roster Discussion: P-P-P-P-PATTERN BREAKER

For NYCC it's alex or Guile I am almost sure. They are not revealing Zangief or Dhalsim in NYCC. Alex is most likely 99% probability I am sure. Alex's hometown is also NYC. So correction: For NYCC 99.99% chance of Alex and .01% chance of Guile IMO. Any other other gief/sim rumor is just.......rumor or delusional hoping(just like I hope for Guile as launch character).
Yeah, at this point I don't see them derailing the hype train they've got going. To go from highly requested 'long time no see' characters and interesting all-new characters to Dhalsim... Gief I feel could actually garner some short-term excitement, but I don't see the same happening for Sim. Guile, Boxer, and Sagat are the only last-minute SF2 characters I could see taking those spots, if not Alex and Urien. That's expecting they are going for story importance. (Alpha characters seem like they'd be pretty easy to write back in since they've been absent for so long)

I also get the feeling there'll be multiple bosses, which makes sense if the plot is a faction war. So Bison will be the boss for some characters/Season 1 if they go that route, Urien another boss/Season 2 if he's DLC, and probably a Shin/"V Has Come To" Necalli. I mean, dude turns Super Saiyan, apparently has a hidden intellect, and eats souls. There's no way a guy that eats souls isn't a boss.

Well then, there you go. They won't show up without a new character to announce in addition to Laura in BGS.

Also, I really don't think Necalli is the boss because he has been revealed so early. However, Bison soul transferred inside Necalli as the final boss is a possibility. I am of the mindset however that the final boss will be a brand new character whose name is going to be a derivative of Peter "Combofiend" Rosas, for the sake of tradition.
Fiend will be a secret nonplayable boss in arcade mode, unlocked with the first major game update

Reveal Zangief at comic con for maximum hype ("Here he is, the wrestler you've been waiting for!") Dhalsim is the shit but he's less hype, so you reveal him randomly on a Tuesday.

Maybe the final boss will be a Combo of Bison and Necalli.

There is nothing hype about gief. If we get a reveal for NYCC, it might actually be an NYC stage. It would make sense for him to unveil something at CC, but I don't think we'll be getting another character that close to BGS.

"Mr Ono, we had the reveal all set for comic con, but CoyoteSpitfire doesn't like Zangief. We're shutting it down."

Ono ain't flying his ass out there for no reveal, all the characters will be know by December, it's not a big deal

If he didn't get in the game (including DLC mind you) then

Mexico is North America. Everything below Mexico that isn't South America is considered Central America. I hated pointing this out btw. I feel like a grammar nazi or something.

Hmm, I actually had to look into this since I thought Central America included parts of Mexico, in particular the parts closer to the equator where the Aztec were located, but you're right. I don't like that definition of central America, but I'm the one who is wrong, so I will hold that L.

I think I know what you are trying to do after lurking and seeing your name every for so many days now. There have to be better ways to get a tag.

It's like you've never heard of Cammy or R.Mika. How is this possible and why would ANYONE want to be crushed by his legs instead of theirs? lol

I don't get it lol, what's the tag? Legitimately curious.

The only reason Ken was any hype was because there was a ton of doubt surrounding his inclusion. At most, Zangief would garner a "Huh, neat" response with a light applause. And while this would be perfectly fine, it wouldn't be the "HOLY SHIT!!!!" response you'd get from someone like Alex or Urien. Plus it's NYCC, it's literally primed for an Alex reveal. I doubt that Capcom would want to tone down the hype after Karin's reveal with Zangief, & straight-up kill said hype train with Dhalsim.
As for Zangief as DLC, let's just say that I personally would prefer Haggar.

As stated earlier, Ono wouldn't be flying from Brazil to New York City in a day if he didn't have a reveal planned for NYCC.

I could see this as an argument against revealing him there too though. You might as well replace that fan reaction quote with "Laura who?"

And imagine how crazy excited people will be when both are revealed AT THE SAME TIME at Capcom Cup (as DLC)!!!!

would he really fly around so much just for a stage

why not send combofiend :x
Because then he wouldn't be able to tweet out pictures of Blanka with cosplayers.

Shush, stop ruining my momentum!
No worries, I already planning to main Rainbow Mika long time ago.
Seriously, R.Mika crushed people's heads with her butt, not thighs!

Alex at least has the appeal of not being around for a while. Zangief is just the same character we've had since SFII & has been in most SF games (sans III, obviously). And newcomers have literally no following when introduced (& they have to garner hype on appearance & gameplay alone), so they aren't exactly a fair comparison.

You're right. But, if I'm not mistaken, the Capcom Cup finals are being held at the PS Experience this year. I was expecting the final character reveal there, but now I'm not sure. We've been getting 2 characters per month since June, and I don't think Capcom is liable to skip November. So, maybe we'll get the first news on DLC characters at PSX.

You are, without a doubt, the most annoying user in this thread right now. You're complete lack of respect for others and their favourite characters and the way you mock other people like a fucking 4 year old would do makes you a complete jackass. You'll fit in nicely on my ignore list.

Zangief would be just the same character we've always had, just like Ken and Bison. And that's what I'm saying. Newcomers have to build hype, and you'd just murder that away by showing Alex the very next day.

...What? Is Laura your favorite character? 😳

Or was I already on your ignore list and you just quoted and responded to that post without reading it?

Zen could easily be the November reveal.

Two in October, one in November, final banana hammock reveal in December.

I figure it would be related to 3S being a plague on Street Fighter or your thirst for SF2. Nothing else would explain this obsession. At this point you've become a one man army for a couple of characters.

About all I'll say on the subject.
As stated earlier, Ono wouldn't be flying from Brazil to New York City in a day if he didn't have a reveal planned for NYCC.
That is nuts. These guys in Japan need to learn how to cultivate talent, so that the key guys don't end up overworking themselves.

I could have sworn she has a throw similar to Cammy's. Either way is a good way to go.

You know I hope Capcom doesn't design themselves into a corner with v-skill/v-trigger. Already seeing fairly re-dundant usage of the mechanic where it's just a powerup, and some skills that just seem useless (chun-li's vskill). Once the cast is 30 characters how is it all going to pan out?

Rashid was just fine with Karin being revealed only a few days after his reveal. I don't think Laura would have much to worry about with Alex being revealed one day later. Now if Alex was revealed first followed by Laura, then you'd have a point about Laura potentially being overshadowed. But getting Laura out there first alleviates that issue (for the most part).

I did the same thing. He was useless to me once he didn't take my bet. The guy has some kind of issue.

It depends on how extreme they are willing to go. Necalli was a really unique and useful one, as does Birdie. I can see lots of variation.

I dunno, that's still the difference between a few days and a few hours, you know? And considering that Alex is the most popular Street Fighter character ever, it would make the problem even worse.

I'm just saying that due to the timing, this is actually one of the very few situations where revealing a "hype" veteran is actually kind of unwise. Or rather, "da gawd" Alex. Just reveal a not gawd level hype character like Zangief.

I never said that Alex is the most popular Street Fighter who was absent for a while (that honor belonged to Karin), I'm just saying that Alex would garner much more hype than someone like Zangief or Dhalsim. And the difference between Laura & the NYCC reveal is a day, so it's not like they're being revealed within 2 hours of each other or anything.

You're not wrong, but saying "we need the most exciting reveal possible for ComicCon" doesn't really make sense from Capcom's perspective. Two characters in a weekend will be exciting regardless, and you draw attention away from the newcomer. And like I said, you can reveal the other two at PAX as DLC, where they'll be more appreciated if anything, and you finish strong. I think everyone can agree that the last reveals should be the most exciting, yeah?

They'd still have Urien in their back-pocket, assuming they reveal Zen at either the Paris Game Show or later in November. And I don't think revealing DLC that soon would sit well with the general public. Maybe a month before release would be fine, but not in December. It just feels like characters like Zangief & Dhalsim, who are mainstays but not necessarily faces of the franchise like Ryu & Chun-Li, get stale after a while.

Using "this will be the most hype" as a reason for anything, is really stupid considering this is Capcom.

They legit hyped up the 20th anniversary of RE and then dropped shit on the fans.

When it comes to baffling hype killing stuff, Capcom are the goddam kings of that. I remember being hyped as fuck for SFXT..then Gems happened.

Never underestimate Capcom's ability to fuck up momentum...ever.

But this is Ono we're talking about. When it comes to hype, he (for the most part) delivers. Plus Capcom has been hitting every note right with SFV, so I don't think they'll stop now with their biggest game (at the moment).

I'd agree under normal circumstances, but this is free DLC that will likely be available soon after launch. It gets people excited and invested by saying "not only will we be supporting this game with free characters, but they'll be free characters you want to actually see, not just lazy SF4 copy pastes".

And I mean otherwise if we're talking about hype reveals, 2 > 1.

I think the boss will be an unplayable character. It's a tradition, in the numbered games at least, that the boss isn't playable in the initial release. Can't remember if Seth took awhile to be playable or if he was in the initial arcade release as playable though

He wasn't playable until console release with all the new characters

SFV is doing away with some traditions, so I wouldn't take anything for granted. I think it's very plausible to have some kind of non-playable boss DLC type thing on top of the core 16. free for the first week maybe, maybe at discounted fight money cost, who knows. maybe initial story mode play through will provide the fight money to make the character discounted. good way to encourage people to spend time with the game. lots of possibilities.

But you'd still have to grind like there's no tomorrow for said characters (or pay for them as the easy way out).

Right... But they're still free and exciting characters haha. When they revealed the DLC plans in the first place people thought it was cool and a nice change of pace for Capcom.

I'd be twice as hyped if we got Laura AND Alex. I don't see how a character can draw the hype from another.

It's a little bit of a distraction. People talked less about Rashid when Karin got announced.

On the other hand they did Cammy and Birdie at the same time and while Cammy did seem to get more attention I don't think that's a big surprise when she's compared to Birdie.

I'm still of the opinion there's gonna be one or two DLC characters very soon after launch, (if not at launch) to show off the Fight Money system.

The real question is, are characters the only thing you spend the in-game currency on...?
