Hey, do you guys remember that guy who released all the leaks that turned out to be true? Didnt he actually play some of the stuff that turned out to be cut content?

I'm the one who leaked the story info:

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?p=176512519#post176512519

I didn't play any of the stuff that turned out to be cut; in fact I didn't even start playing the game until 1st September ;-)

I'm also the first person who noticed the MSX tape link between The Phantom Pain and Ground Zeroes:

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=176927609&postcount=7104

So I'm pretty much to blame for everyone being excited about that at the the minute :-)

If a game was made in between MGS1 and MGS2 or MGS2 and MGS4... I wouldn't complain. Or even better, both.

Snake and Otacon running missions for Philanthropy. Raiden saving Sunny from The Patriots. There - bam. Two extremely vague outlines for a story and a way to bring pre-cyborg Raiden and almost-prime Solid back and explain how he and Snake worked together for a time. There's enough ambiguity about these interquel years for anything to happen. The only thing set it stone is that Raiden has to get fucked up at some point, and get Sunny to Snake and Otacon.

And before people chime in "that was Rising originally", yeah it was. But that doesn't mean it isn't a good story to tell.
Metal Gear Solid Mobile. ;)

Source please?

Shit, i honestly have no idea where to get a good source of it, so don't take my word too serious. But I want to remember there being a guy who summarized some stuff a guy on reddit who played the game early said. I'm sure this was one of the first guys who confirmed that Venom was a doppelganger and all that, and i'm super sure this was the same guy who both provided some picture of Mantis where he was a bossfight, claiming this was the final mission boss or something like that.

I might just have accidentally mixed in a bunch of fake leaks with what was true, sorry.

Oh, well haha. Sorry.

Maybe self/medically inflicted in an attempt to stop the leaks he kept getting?

That could be the reason; they look much more like surgical scars than the result of torture. It would seem most likely that they were from attempts to study or manage his powers, but they could even be the result of reconstructive surgery after being severely disfigured as his village burnt down, though his apparently unscarred V face would seem to discredit that.

It's also possible the cranial and mouth scar weren't from procedures done around the same time - for all we know, the mouth one was from a Leningrad University of Parapsychology experiment prior to V; while the other was from a later procedure intended to restrain and focus his power; explaining why he still had hair when we saw him. There was also that theory about it being the result of taking on traits of the (possibly self-mutilating) serial killer whose mind he dove too far into prior to MGS1 - he does reflect the physical appearance of the characters he leeches from in V, after all.

Also, what could have happened to his nose?

I think it's great that the Raiden skin is the full S rank reward.

Because after getting it I can basically use it without feeling guilty.

F4CC3E940AB61A05109A5C8F5D13B181A9B1E9AF

Kinda nuts that I S ranked everything but still have 19% left of things to do. I dunno if I am up to doing all objectives or finding all the animals though.

Just beaten it myself

In terms of a "bottle game" by itself I enjoyed it alot. In terms of the entire MGS series and what the story ultimately came out too.ehhhI saw the twist coming early as hell tho. Questioned it back in the prologue when I was hearing his voice. Part of me was like "obviously this is just the tutorial so of course he/you are guiding you but....this IS Kojima we are talking about so fuckery is somewhere in this." Once I heard all this talk of BB being more "mute" and for design purposes I pretty much figured that there was some sort of foul play then. Especially with the way they presented him as nothing more than a silent protag throughout the whole thing. I mean it just looked and felt off. Even the cover of the game, he just looked "weird". Part of me really did want more cutscenes in general however. I felt this was his way of answering back after everyone criticized 4 of being just a movie. Mission missteps and frustrating setups felt "ok" at times because of how well the systems and gameplay itself just worked. The GiantBomb crew mentioned last week on there podcast how if some games tried to pull some of the gameplay and mission layout it would have fallen flat on it's face and I kinda have to agree with them on it. Nice flow on thing except for the whole climbing up rocks and just sliding back down...or worst walking down a rock and randomly forced into standing up. Overall a fun ride, I REALLY want to know who had the idea of pacing Chapter 1 and 2 like that. Like...a sound reason other then having the game feel longer.

All and all, Im interested in how time will treat this one. Personally I think it will be big not just because of it being the possible "soft end" to the series but also what it means in terms of the future of kojima and konami. Like....I feel like there will be this weird legacy to it because of what this game represents for them both. To the point it almost feels like it will be the elephant in the room for this game.

I'll post more thoughts in the morning after I sleep on it. Havn't touched FOB....im cool on that shit....

It's interesting to see how every other post in the OT is an "I just finished mission ??, did I finish the game?" kind of post. Speaks volumes on how much of a narrative disaster chapter 2 is.

And that the concept of slapping credits on every other mission is beyond daft.

The way Truth pops up in the middle of the mission list without any notification is ridiculous and it makes me think that only a small portion of players is ever going to see the ending (PS4 trophy stats are currently at less than 7%).
Ironically, this could also mean that the game will be looked back upon more fondly than some people expect. What a fascinating mess.

This game let me down...I wanted to be building Outer Heaven and waging a war against Zero...I wanted the final boss to be Solid Snake in a Crisis Core type ending where you're destined to lose.

So doing mission 11 with DD, where you 1st get Quiet. When you come back and Quiet snipes the jet pilot. DD is in the passenger seat of the helicopter while wearing the chopper headphones and mic.

Just finished the game--terrible ending. It retroactively destroyed whatever good things MGSV's skeleton of a story had going for it, not to mention revealing just how scarce the story-related stuff is. (That final voiceover might as well just have an image saying "PLACEHOLDER" instead of the title.) Bait and switch doesn't work without the bait.

Now let's talk Quiet. Why. This concludes the talk on Quiet.

Oh, and I almost forgot! Kiefer's Snake is the worst not only due to his critical affliction of silent protagonism, but also because he never gets a chance to make it his own. I don't think a single thing in MGSV would change if you cut all of Snake's dialog--that's how meaningless it is--and the game knows it. (Skull Face's monologue.) On the other end of the spectrum, Hayter's Snake need only say Metal Gear to establish its dominance. I actually half-thought they'd do something like that at the end, but, oh, no that would be too clever, I guess...

I'm not even that invested in the Metal Gear franchise and MGSV has managed to break my heart.

Yeah got to say as a twist it feels contrived.

Although I sort of like that it gave Kojima creative freedom to not just make the game where we do things everyone knows the boss has done. He sort of gave us twists on that stuff, meeting child soldiers, meeting a 'recruiting' a sniper etc

if this was the true story of big boss i worry that kojima would have ruined classic characters like sniper wolf and he probably realised this and the end twist was a good way to basically make this game without really worrying about the story.

i sense the voice parasites also wasnt intended for metal gear but kojima never got to move away from metal gear and so shoehorned ideas in.

I imagine if he can build up a team as talented as the one he had at Konami, he will finally go on to do the stuff he wants to do

Man, just bring David and Hal back. Just have it so that Raiden and Hal used nanomachines and biotech to keep David alive.

At this point?
Yeah, Solid(revived/de-aged, don't care how) with Otacon maybe have Mei-Ling as the new Campbell.

Go crazy with the Metal Gears and standard grunts replaced by cyborgs.
Solid keeps stealth camo in addition to octacamo and an upgraded Soliton Radar.

Rising already screwed up a decent bookend so why not go all out?

For full crazy Mei-Ling retires the Missouri and takes command of Outer Haven, reestablishes her unit as "Philanthropy"
and travels the world keeping peace from Metal Gears or worse.
Outer Haven becomes Solid's Mother Base.

.

I'm kind of annoyed that the game forces you to kill. Mission 43 doesn't even ignore those kills and 45 is almost impossible to finish non-lethal. It took me around 10 tries before I finished and somehow I still ended up with kills, even though I didn't use a single lethal weapon.

Edit: I just checked my records and my kills are still at the same number. Don't know why I wasn't awarded the no kill bonus for mission 45.

I beat the game.

Questions before I start my story rant:

1. What exactly was Skull Face's plan? To destroy English to destabilize the world and cause everyone to buy nukes that he owned? Then what was up with the other languages the parasites learned? Was that Zero's plan? Was The Devil House Zero's idea or Skull Face's?
2. When does Phantom Snake learn about the truth? In 1995 in Outer Heaven? What is the point of telling him?
3. What was Big Boss even fucking doing at this time? Trying to get a loan for Zanzibar Land? Also why does Real Boss name his stupid place Zanzibar Land? Why not Outer Heaven? HE ONLY TALKS ABOUT OUTER HEAVEN LIKE ALL THE TIME AND MENTIONS IT IN THREE GAMES.
4. What was up with Quiet? She had the English parasites? Then how could she speak English at the end? Wouldn't that kill Big Boss? Why does she leave if she's ok? WHAT WAS THE POINT?
5. How and when do Miller and Ocelot know the truth? I know Ocelot did the self hypnosis thing and somehow snaps out of it, but what about Miller? Does Ocelot just tell him? Why would Ocelot even do that?
6. Why would Miller support Phantom Boss AND Solid Snake? I get that he kind of wants to get revenge on Real Boss, but both of those men are the exact opposite of each other in terms of goals. Also Big Boss later hires Miller for FOXHOUND. Why does Miller accept if he just wants to kill Big Boss? Is he trying to do an inside job? Also why would Big Boss even want to hire Miller? Wouldn't Ocelot tell Big Boss that Miller wants revenge?

The most baffling thing about all of this is Hayter's exclusion. I can't believe it all boiled down to Kojima wanting more star power. It's just stupid. Don't give me the whole "Hayter was bad. Just look at Peace Walker." Just tell Hayter to fucking chill it and boom we would of had a performance. Sutherland's performance barely counts since Boss/Venom amounts to saying nothing throughout most of the game. Something I'll never forgive Kojima for.

If only we got a Subsistence edition where we get:
1. Hayter/Doyle as Boss/Venom
2. A whole reconstruction of the story missions. Only story missions are main missions. Have added scenes in which Venom recruits soldiers in order to make the expansion of Mother Base still believable if you only do the story missions.
3. Fix the entirety of Chapter 2 and make it complete.
4. Rework all of Quiet. Her design, her backstory, and even balance her out in gameplay.

Big boss is Kojima. He's said as much in many interviews. Snake is also the Same age as Kojima isn't he? Is he in v.

He also said that Solid Snake in MGS2 and MGS4 is himself too. Part of Raiden's story is Kojima's own too (the relationship and banter between Rose and Raiden in MGS2 is based on Kojima's own with his wife).

KUT KONTENT IN VIDEO FORM.

This is the no nuke video.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-2E17aKPp_o

Maybe this triggers when every single FOB nuke is disarmed. SOMETHING THAT CAN ONLY BE DONE IN VIDEO GAMES (lol)

Maybe there's more to it. We've been told it's possible to unlock it by konami on twitter, but there's a child soldier in that video, so it would have to be post-kingdom of flies. So what gives? Is KoF hidden in the game and we're just waiting for a PT style revelation of how to unlock it?

People have been researching like crazy into Ch.3 and this video on a thread on reddit. https://www.reddit.com/r/metalgearsolid/comments/3lme8z/to_unlock_chapter_3/

It would fit with the theme of the deterrence video for a chapter 3 titled "PEACE". Maybe there's a real big twist hidden somewhere in this game? It would be absolutely insane if true.

Wow I didn't know about this. Why is the Chapter called Peace? I mean where did we get that info?

Kojima's wife calling him in the middle of a super important meeting to ask him if he remembers what day tomorrow is.

I just completed the Paz storyline and I wonder, was the final scene mysteriously censored for anyone else? I just rewatched it on Youtube and whatever version of the game that guy was playing was far more graphic than mine, it showed her guts spilling out of her stomach just like the surgery scene in Ground Zeroes. What's going on?

if quiet is infected with parasites that cover, why doesn't she use them to at least simulate clothing like bayonetta? edit: and she clearly has combat gear. does she really not have a better, more supportive top?

Yes, Kojima deliberately left out the closing chapter of the game he has been working on for 5 years and ultimately lead to his resignation from Konami, and he's going to patch it in a month after release just to troll the 5% of the hardcore players who roam the internet all day looking for answers to the MGSV plot, while in the meantime trainwrecking the experience for everyone playing, just for the lulz.

If there was something monumental hidden in the game, it would have been dug up already on the PC version. Thinks like the title card, nuke ending etc. were big finds, but it something else was there it would have been found as well.

If chapter 3 can be unlocked they really didn't do themselves any favors making it this obscure.

Yeah exactly. If there is a chapter 3 it doesn't even involve any new assets or anything really that exciting, it's just another scene in a play with the same props and actors.
