I completely disagree with this.

I said three things in that post. At least. Which bit exactly are you talking about?

This thread is insane, I don't think I've ever seen so much disagreement and mixed opinions on something.

Awesome thanks for that! Looking forward to seeing how to make snake!

No worries man. I'm concerned I won't have time to do it tonight but I'll try my best. It looks pretty good, although it's not perfect.

But why do you hate yourself? Venom is you. You is Venom
But Venom is Big Boss too. So we are Big Boss?

It's a ying/yang dissociative disorder thing. We are simultaneously Big Boss and ourselves (Venom).

Of course the true, pure Big Boss is Big Boss. But Venom Snake is like a non-genetic clone of Big Boss, memories and all.

Shit is crazy, man.

When you deploy for a mission from the Helicopter ACC, you can 'Commence Mission,' 'Select Equipment,' 'Select Buddy', 'Select Vehicle' and 'Select Character'.

Choose 'Select Character' and change your character to the one immediately below Snake, which should have your avatar name.

To customise your avatar, while you're waiting in the chopper, take out the iDroid and go to the 'Mother Base' tab, and choose 'Customise'. You should have Avatar at the bottom.

I'll post pics and specifications for Solid Snake tonight! Just takes a bit of tweaking face wise :)

That would be cool!

I'm still tweaking on my Old Snake avatar to make him as close as possible. It's too bad you can't have a mullet, an eyepatch (solid eye replacement) and a fitting mustache tho. Like seriously, even the biggest and fullest mustache in the avatar options fades in comparison with Old Snake's lol

You still get the whole Old Snake feel of the avatar, especially when you have the sneaking suit from MGS:GZ.

Playing as venom doesn't bother me, it's all the cut content and painfully loose ends that does.

Yep, I'm more on board with that.

I like Venom Snake, and I don't think the loose ends are that bad – but the absence of content that obviously should be there is a pretty salty wound.

That would be cool!

Will do!

To be honest, I'm mainly looking forward to others correcting my Solid Snake approximation :P

So Kaz didn't know that Venom isn't Big Boss until later but did he not remember at the hospital 9 years ago that the real Big Boss didn't have that shrapnel in his head? When Kaz asks "What about him"? Confusing...

... I'm pretty sure he did. I'm pretty sure in the tape with Kaz and Zero, Zero directly tells him about Venom. And this is well before Venom is 'created'. IIRC.

Nah, Kaz doesn't know until later, although it's unspecified as to when.

The shrapnel/hospital scene is basically irrelevant in that regard because really, when you're on life support after a helicopter crash, are you going to realize shit like that?

Kaz's decision to follow V instead of Boss is actually a very poignant piece of the narrative. It implies not only that he knew who V was prior to his body double persona and is willing to work with him, but also that he's extremely bitter towards BB for abandoning him. The mutual revenge the two of them (V and Kaz) carried out on Skull Face probably also created a bond stronger than the one he had with Boss himself. Remember - he met Boss as an enemy and was secretly in contact with Cipher during all of Peace Walker. His relationship with V is stronger than his relationship with BB, which went totally sour after GZ.

it's also implied that he's blind....though him being a huge help via the radio doesn't make a ton of sense. having said that, the fact that kaz and ocelot can see everything the player can see makes most of the in-mission radio contact 4th wall breaking type stuff

Fair enough - and yeah I picked up on that, too. Especially when you rescue Kaz in Mission 1. You can tell he knows it's not really BB.

Kaz inquires, asking "What about him?", referring to the medic, so it's of some concern to Kaz, and he is told about the shrapnel in the medic's head, so it isn't a case of not noticing. He's loyal to his men, the MSF survivors in particular, so I don't imagine him deciding "Hey, well fuck shrapnel head".

It's explainable, but it should have been addressed or avoided. Yeah, Kaz could have forgotten that it was actually the medic who had shrapnel lodged in his skull. Perhaps he was told that the medic was dead, so he never put two-and-two together. But it's just another element that highlights how badly executed the twist was. If you want to pull something like that off you need to do it well; having to pick and choose which parts support the twist and which don't weakens it as a whole.

No, I don't think that's the case. Kaz never suggests "you aren't the Big Boss I remember", which would have been a good way to introduce the possibility of the twist. It's clear he wholly accepts the medic as Big Boss, even accepting his authority, and is only made aware of the real Big Boss having abandoned him in the post-credits sequence.

See, this is why I was sure Kaz knew about Venom Snake before BB and PB wake up. I don't recall there being a timestamp on the Kaz/Zero tape, but I recall Zero being like 'this is what we're going to do, fake a second Big Boss, now you go off and do what you like ' *Kaz goes off to Afghanistan, etc, etc*

Makes so much more sense. Also answers the 'How did he not recognise the shrapnel' argument - which could be to do with him being blind, but that's fuzzy. And that way Kaz seeing Big Boss and being slightly more aloof than usual would link in.

Need the proofs.

he actually does do this while you're carrying him, begging him to say "kept you waiting, huh"

The Kaz/Zero tape is Zero confirming that Big Boss (the real one) is alive and in Zero's care. Kaz isn't in on the fake Big Boss plan.

And Kaz isn't blind, even if he is blind in The Phantom Pain, when he is informed about the shrapnel lodged in the medic's head. And regardless he is told, so that wouldn't matter. He could have forgotten about it but him knowing then not knowing or forgetting for no clear reasons is dumb.

Kaz isn't aloof during his rescue for any other reason that he was heavily injured. He calms down after he gets medical attention, he's just pissed when you first meet in in TPP.

he actually does do this while you're carrying him, begging him to say "kept you waiting, huh"

Does what? Him asking for Big Boss to say "Kept you waiting, huh" is just him making a dark joke. Basically 'I haven't seen you in 9 years, hey, why don't you say that light-hearted catch-phrase you say'. His eyesight also seemed damaged, so he probably just wasn't sure who it was, not that he suspected a fake Big Boss. If you actually do press the Action Button to reply I believe even that is enough for Kaz to know it's really you, even when it isn't.

Press triangle and V will actually say this. The prompt implies that he needs to prompted (subtle hint at his identity) but is a neat gameplay mechanic regardless

"I saw him at a Burger King once. I thought, 'Oh, man, there's Professor Talker!'

I went over to say hi and he had nothing to say. Kept grumbling into his burger about what the staff were doing in the kitchen.

Even outside of the classroom he's boring."

kaz is blind just not fully blind mostly foggy, ill-defined shapes and light sensitivity I dont think he can see the shrapnel.

That may be the only tape I just couldn't listen to.

I found the idea of the vocal cord parasite interesting in theory but having the science behind it explained so deeply was just - dull

I appreciate they thought about it though!

yeah i know this. but i feel like that was a subtle hint that kaz is unsure of who he's dealing with. when i was first playing i just assumed it was the result of big boss being changed by his coma, and kaz sensing that there was something different about him. thus asking him to recite the catch-phrase is an attempt by kaz to reassure himself that he's with big boss

Aha, fair enough re the Kaz/Zero tape.

He's deffo partially blind, but obviously not enough to miss a fore-head embedded obelisk of metal. And yeah, now you mention it, he was lying next to Snake in a hospital bed saying 'Don't you die on me!' and staring at him, then he looks at Venom and says 'What about him' - no doubt noticing the shrapnel. If he saw boss years later he would definitely remember that.

I think this is the only actual, legit plot hole I can think of in the game. It is pretty stupid. The rest of the game is incomplete and wonky in execution, but actually sound in terms of plot. Except for this.

How do we know this? It was my understanding, too, but I don't think it's actually said anywhere in the game. His eyes are just messed up.

I remember a scene when he was trying to pick something up knew its general location so he is aware of his surroundings (foggy sight). he also says he lost his eyes at the start of chapter 2. maybe his eyes degrade over time, but I remember his eyes being like that at the start. but you are correct it was never really explained in detail you just have to watch kaz through-out the cutscenes, its pretty apparent.

Fucking midichlorians

Um, sorry, but what tape were you listening to? All I heard was
birds

Shit, you're right. Maybe his eyesight is worse than we remember.

How the heck does he run a fucking international PMC?!

Even if Miller is blind, the doctor said to him about the other guy "he took a sharpnel in his head".

Edit: after rescuing Kaz, how did he know that Venom lost his arm if he is blind?

Edit2: nevermind, he maybe felt his robot arm.

His eyes look normal at the start.

What happened to that scene teased from the recording booth where Kaz was trying to tie his shoe?

Not at all - when Venom unbags his head and Kaz lifts hit chin, Snake says 'Did they do something to your eyes?' and his face is all covered in weals and his eyes are clearly milky - his right one at least.

I actually didn't mind that, since the whole vocal cord parasite research was interesting to me. Anyway~

Miller's Maxi Buns is the best tape in the game. Bar none.

His eyes might be messed up there but he is generally. There's lots of scenes where you can see his pupils, like in the ride home.

The idea is that Kaz wouldn't be able to see the shrapnel in Venom's head in 1984 because he's blind, so he wouldn't put 2 and 2 together re the Medic .

You talented people need to come up with custom faces of solid snake, old snake, and raiden for us (me).

Check literally the last couple of pages, breh

I'm on that tonight :) I have a solid-looking Solid Snake. Will post screens/directions

Not perfect, but good.

Raiden is a no-go unfortunately, not enough hair options Dx

I don't follow/recall that. I'd need to watch again.

Wow, I totally forgot that shot of Ocelot gun-juggling from one of the earliest trailers. File that under "More shit that isn't in this game".

It would be good to have a long JPEG or 4chan-style list of all the stuff that isn't in the game, with screenshots for each one. So someone can send it to Kojima on Twitter.

I don't want to rub his face in it, but something needs to be done about it. Edit: It's probably not his fault at all, though, I shouldn't direct it at him.

I believe that's from the 1st MGO trailer where at the end of the trailer they reveal Ocelot as a playable unique character. So probably just something put together for MGO's trailer.

I can't read entirely through this thread right now (i'm starting from the beginning now that i finished the game) but one question that's been bugging me. It's probably been answered a dozen times already and maybe there's a tape i haven't heard that explains this so bear with me, I finished the game late last night and can't return to it till tonight

Sooooooooooo Quiet can't speak english for fear of spreading the english parasite butttttttttttt she talks english in front of venom. Doesn't that mean that he's infected with the english variant of the parasite now?

My understanding was that you have to actively be infected with the parasite like any other parasie (biological transfer). The parasite is only activated when you speak English.

Maybe I'm wrong – and if I am wrong, then it's probably that hearing a few words doesn't do it. One of the characters says that: 'The odd word won't cause anything.'
