No but anyone that wants to play them at launch either has to put in the time or money. Those are both costs.
So we're complaining about unlockable characters? I don't know what you're trying to argue here.

Just to be clear, your argument is that Capcom won't reveal any DLC characters before the launch because you have to unlock them, and that takes time. So if they did that, everyone would hate them and it would kill all hype for the game.

Lets look at the "time" before jumping the gun here.

Older FG games also took a lot of time to unlock all the characters. AND there wasnt even online play back then. You had to do some BS like finish arcade mode a million times to unlock.

No my argument is that releasing DLC characters at launch will create ill will even if there's some F2P model to unlock them.

Anyone who thinks the free method to unlock will be trivial is kidding themselves. Probably going to take a lot of hours to accrue enough bison bucks and for someone whose main is locked like that on release day is bullshit.

Did the leak say in the initial roster? I mean they should very well be the first two DLC characters.
They said Alex & Urien about a day before they said Karin & Rainbow Mika. If the SFIII characters were DLC, Siliconera either would have stated otherwise or would have said Karin & Rainbow Mika first.

Who said they would be available on release day? The roster is already extremely solid. By announcing the DLC characters before launch, you show that awesome characters are still on the way, and it's not gonna be like Honda or Blanka or some shit.

And you're definitely arguing against unlockable characters lol. People are gonna be excited.

So they're going to announce two characters that aren't even created yet? That's very against what we've seen so far from character reveals.

As someone who's main will 100% be an unlock down the road, if she's in at all, I'm okay with it.

So either they're not created yet or they're day 1 DLC? Even if we ignore the second sentence which makes no sense because basically no character has been in a finished state in their reveal trailer, do you just have absolutely no idea how any of this works?

All I know is I'm pissed that they're adding newcomers. What, I have to learn a new playstyle in order to use them? Don't they know how much time that's gonna take me? Talk about nickel and diming the customer.

You realize that they've made tons of changes to the existing characters they've shown, right? Nothing is finished yet.

No I'm just trying to poke the weird illogical holes in your theories on why urien and alex were in the leak over the other characters you're championing.

You say they'll be DLC, and that's the reason why they were in the leak and will get announced alongside the game.

So that plays out in several ways:

1. The characters are announced but are in the early stages. This is against all what we've seen in character reveals. All characters revealed are playable in an almost ready state, baring minor graphic and play adjustment via hands on player feedback.

2. The characters are done, but they're holding on to them for a future release. This will indeed piss people off.

3. The characters are done, they will release at launch as DLC. This will piss people off, no one likes day 1 DLC.

If Urien/Alex are indeed DLC they'll keep their mouth shut on their status until they're ready for release.

As someone who's main will 100% be an unlock down the road, I'm okay with it.

There's a difference between someone's character being an unlock 6 months after the game has released where you've accumulated enough play time and one that's locked day 1.

And I would still be okay with that.

Finding out my main is day 1 DLC that I'm going to have to unlock is better than her not being in at all for 6+ months.

How about the DLC characters have been planned for months, but they're been working on the other characters before them because those characters have to be on the initial release. Then they get a trailer in January that shows off their stuff, and they release less than a month after the game does. They're far enough along that you can see gameplay, but not far enough that they can be released yet, because arcade ladders and costumes and whatever need to be finalized, plus bug testing.

This is really intuitive right? Or am I just going crazy?

And I would still be okay with that.

But do you really want to be forced to pay more money or time or whatever?

Man, SFxT really haunts people even though nothing Capcom has done since then hints at anything like that happening again.

Don't agree with anything Ferrio says. People aren't going to be pissed if there's more characters to unlock at launch. They're not going to know if they're done or not because there's no on disc dlc. And there is no difference between a character released day 1 or 6 months because I still have to play or pay money to get them.

The DLC characters would be well under way by the time the reveal happens. The game goes Gold a lot earlier than the release date. The dev have enough time , also most of artists/engineers would be working on DLC once Zen is done. Because after that its mostly balance changes and tweaks.

I can't see how any of you can say with a straight face that people would be fine with it when everyone flips there shit whenever day 1 DLC is announced in *any* game.

Anyways I'll drop it, my overall point being: Urien and Alex won't be DLC.

But do you really want to be forced to pay more money or time or whatever?

If I can unlock it via in game currency then I'm not being forced to pay more money.

And to say I'm being "forced" to "pay more time" is ridiculous, as I'm going to be playing the game anyway.

But it doesn't have to be day 1 DLC. What is going on. Everyone's telling you that nothing you're saying makes any sense.

If its anything like most other MOBAs etc.... You get a lot of points initially for your first win, first time completing arcade mode, Starter pack..etc

I think the first character unlock would be relatively easy and not that time consuming. After wards it might become harder and thats where you ll start spending. Thats why Capcom will keep the more desired hardcore characters for DLC.

Day 1 DLC (free) for SF5 when people will be playing it most? Not a big deal.

Don't think it'll happen, but I wouldn't care if it did.

Most fighters have dlc. Nothing to flip out about.

Wah Wah..... This partyss getting craaayzyy

Also isn't your bet kinda unfair, you should put up two characters that you think are in too :P

Well, he was willing to bet a smaller sum without someone else having specific alternatives, so if he's got the cash and the confidence then we have a bet.

I think the DLC issue would be greatly offset by the fact that we can actually unlock characters without paying real money. The more offensive thing was having fully completed characters locked behind paywall. With that said, Ferrio is kinda right, because people absolutely still would complain, just not necessarily the same people. There would be articles/posts from people who don't really play Street Fighter who point to Capcom being anti-consumer and stuff, just like we had people complaining about the Shenmue 3 kickstarter.

At this point in the time line, Zangief may have used his SF4 tournament winnings to become MechaGief. Maybe that's why they're waiting to reveal him, saving the best for second to last followed by DLC reveals.

Hahaha... Holy Ken? He got a halo or sumthn?

Mecha Zangief is on USF4 no?

Someone mentioned in the thread before and I also couldn't help to laugh at the concept. I keep imagining Ken in holy robes with a backlight like Gill. To me it's hilarious.

Mecha Zangief is a skin in SF4, but it should be more like, Tager from BB series. Use that electromagnetic power to defend the Russian skies.

Bahaha ha....

What game is this, brother?

Robe??? Hahaha.. Let's add wings too.

I'm so sorry guys.I'm not laughing at you but I'm laughing at the concept or the names...

Mugen. So many youngins don't know about it, surprises me. It's an custom fighting game engine, so people recreate characters from games, create new versions of them, or their own totally new characters.

If you're curious about it, check out Salty Bet (Seriously do, it's fucking hilarious). Special twitch stream where people bet fake money on cpu controlled mugen fights. Think they were up to like 3k characters or something insane last time I checked in. Great way to introduce yourself to the mugen community. Chat is hilarious too.

RE: day one DLC, I think there needs to be something available to spend our Fight Money on (and to generate sales of Zenny, of course) but I don't think it should be characters. If it is, then I won't be too upset but some most certainly will be.

Personally, I'm hoping they're going to offer announcer packs, (Alpha 3 or CvS2) different HUDs, (CvS2) and stage music. (Third Strike) I also wouldn't be surprised if we're buying alternate palettes in addition to full blown costumes.

Oh nice. I need to see this.

If I could draw, I would do the concept art hahahahah

I would add a bible and one of those crowns made of leaves too.

Holy Ken, a true family man and a street priest preaching the teachings of Father Gouken. Hell, it could work.

I suspect that there would be many missinformed people that would complain about it just like there were people complaining about there being a ultra update for the game or people complaining about any kind of dlc in any game ever.
I think it would depend on how capcom presented the dlc/unlockable characters and how easy would be to unlock them.
Personally i would really like to have a few more characters as unlockable on launch and obviously i really want akuma to be one of them.

People would hate Akuma as free DLC. People want to play as him, not lose money by playing Street Fighter instead of going to work in order to buy him with in game currency.

You realize that most people don't like unlockable characters to begin with, right? It's just that the lesser of two evils in this case.

It will be interesting to see what happens with DLC when you consider EVO being right around the corner. What's the usual deadline for new characters in regards to being able to compete with them in tournament?

Smash 4 was played on an old version with Lucas, Ryu, and Roy banned. That was June 14th.
