Yes, Ocelot is disappointing, but I think he is a different character because self hypnosis and 2 + 2 = 5. Also, Troy Baker sucks as Ocelot.

One of these is a better reason than the other and I think we all know which one it is. Still, I can't really blame Baker if Kojima or whoever it was told him "Sound more like Joel!"

Kojima should have slowed the zoom down and thrown in a "Whoa-ooaaaooaaooooo" for good measure.

Would've been a better use of the song than the jeep scene at least.

I honestly would prefer that we just got more Peace Walker styled bosses. than the crap that passes as boss fights in this game. At least in that one you had to disable a vehicle and take out its pilot to capture it.

No, the bosses in this game were great. There's the one where you can kill a sniper with 6 or so shots with a tranq gun. Then there's the snipers (plural this time!) that you can run by without even fighting. Then there's the bullet sponges you cheese while standing on a roof. And then there's the giant mech that you just run around in a circle and shoot with a rocket launcher.

Oh, and don't forget the fire guy you can stun and kill with a bazooka to the conspicuously placed water towers that aren't apparent and obvious.

Bosses so dense.

You know I didn't really think of it like this but the super cute anime style posters of paz are in really bad taste.

She caused the downfall of MSF

She's like the 2nd worst person the gang behind I guess Huey.

Like what the fuck, who keeps putting up those posters?

Huey is probably the next best character behind Miller. You really get the feeling that he's a dirty weasel afraid to own up to what he's done. Every single line he spoke made me want to punch him in the face a little bit more than the last, which made the fact that I knew he wouldn't die in this game even more frustrating.

Agreed. But just remember how he finally does die. Knowing the type of person he is makes his suicide all the more believable. Huey's character was handled really well. The way his lies grow more desperate as the others get closer to realizing what he's done made his story one of the highlights of the game.

And as shitty as he was, he was right about all of the mistrust and infighting in Diamond Dogs. That was the true downfall of Big Boss, not him becoming some comic book super villain, but the way he lost sight of his ideals after the fall of MSF.

Big Boss does piss himself... In MGS 3.
We won't get a subsistence version... We never got one for MGS 4, we'd be lucky if this game gets any support from Konami.
I don't think the game leaving a "phantom pain" for the fans by being incomplete is intentional... To have quality suffer for the purpose of art is very stupid. It's just coincidence. If we go use that logic, theN MGS 4, whose other theme is "dissolve", is purposely the game it is, because its acclaim has sure dissolved over the years.

You don't even need a bazooka. There's an oil drum right next to it so you can just explode that.

Man even looking at the GIF you posted, it's not exactly clear that he's sliding it out from under him. It looks like it was always by his elbow. It doesn't really move much...eh it's whatever.

Oh for sure, much in the same way that a total dickhead like Skullface realizes what Huey is, Huey sees what's going on with Big Boss before anyone else does.

You don't even need a bazooka. There's an oil drum right next to it so you can just explode that.

Do you even need to do that? I vaguely remember something about the size of a water cooler inside the covered area that I shot to douse Volgin in water and then hightailing it to the chopper. I never blew up any water tower thing.

Yoooo, I just realized that the passport Big Boss gets at the end is supposed to say the name you made for the character. I named my guy Big Boss so I was really confused.

On my second run and I just named mine Medic from Ground Zeroes or something like that which fit into the character limit.

Kaz does. Seeing her smiling face reignites his anger. Tbh after knowing how Paz was tortured and killed, those posters do seem really strange.

so Venom actually think he's Big Boss (and doesn't realize the ruse) until he listens to the "From the man who sold the world tape" which I presume must be about 10 years later because it's also includes the original Metal Gear 1 mission instructions?

but the surgeon in the hospital showed him his original face in the mirror... and said this is how you used to look before he showed him his new Big Boss face

and after I finished Mission 46, Diamond Dogs at Mother Base are now saying, "we don't care who you are. you're our boss."

and the when does Ocelot find out... the tape between Ocelot and Miller suggests they both knew at the start of MGS V, but the Ocelot also says he did some reverse hypnosis to forget it or some shit ;p

Yes, Ocelot is disappointing, but I think he is a different character because self hypnosis and 2 + 2 = 5. Also, Troy Baker sucks as Ocelot.

This is the first time ocelot's not been a triple crosser though. It's also the only time we've seen him in his prime. I liked it. It'd have been nice to see an action scene with him shooting dudes to save the boss, but I didnt have a problem with him in this.

Yeah, this game was pretty much Metal Gear Kaz with Huey as the main villain.

Miller may have been full of anger and
re
vengeance during this game but it's not hard to imagine him cooling down over a decade later. I do imagine if MG2 was ever remade his personality would be updated to be a bit more in line with his PW/V self, though. Either way, despite being mostly friendly support throughout MG2, he still calls Big Boss a monster and definitely wants him dead. Wonder how his character reacted to the events of Outer Heaven, and how much he knew of BB's (not Venom's) involvement in the affair.

What particularly did you like? Was it the part about getting down if there is an enemy sniper nearby, or the part where he explains what a black carrot is?

Play the opening mission again. The scene plays out differently in it, making it seem like you are Big Boss and that the face you create is the one they intended to disguise you with. At least that's the impression I got.

Stumbled across this SFM video, and seeing how a majority of people have been reacting to MGSV, I believe it summarizes said reactions quite nicely:

It's like people who thought the Mass Effect 3 (original) ending was bad on purpose, because it was stringing them along into an epilogue DLC.

The dream is already over, folks.

Ocelot is just kinda there.

I get the sense he was gonna have a more active role in the third part maybe, but as it is, his role is kind of a waste.

yea that's what the poster just described. In the actual prologue they show you big boss's face first then your avatar. Sort of to trick you into thinking that avatar was going to be Boss's new face. In the Truth mission you see the opposite. But, still, Medic sees his original face.

For the first time in Metal Gear, ocelot is boring. Also for the first time in MGS, there's no story.
This game is first in a lot of catagories it seems.

So I assume Paz was a hallucination? Also do you get a scene with her after every mother base soldier extraction mission? I did all of them but only went back to her 3 or 4 times before the game ended, does it ever go anywhere?

I posted this in the good game endings thread, this seems a better place to mention it:

I must be the only person that thought MGSV's ending was OK, the way people go on you would swear it was a crime against humanity. I liked the whole Big-Boss twist, and since I hadn't been following the game pre-release I didn't explicitly see it coming (though I kinda suspected that it was a possibility). Until I found out about Episode 51, the unfinished Eli story didn't strike me as strange either. Plenty of games have planted worse sequel-bait.

Then you didn't finish it. In the hallway before her room is the last photo.

didn't even really feel like ocelot, or look or sound like him... different voice obviously but also not the same charisma or flamboyance

yeah i watch both again online quickly, the order is changed and the face he sees his changed... prologue he sees Big Boss, then Ahab for split second, and then Big Boss the 3rd time when the doc says "your face until this day"... but in the M46, that line comes first (before the surgery, not after) and it's Ahab's face... so not only does the mirror reflection change but even the doctor's dialogue order... so i'm not sure which face he actually has nor which face he thinks he sees ;p

i mean, he completely thinks he's Big Boss and doesn't know the ruse until 10 years later when he listens to that tape, right? so whatever the hospital scene is, we can just assume that it obviously fits with him thinking he's big boss

still wondering why all the Diamond Dogs at Mother Base now seem to think they know I'm actually not the original Big Boss though haha ;p

Ocelot trained DD. Who is the most badass character in the game!

What more do you fucking want!?!?! :D

Still bothers me that they separated the game as 'Chapters' when there are only two. Not seperated into 'Acts' like MGS4 or atleast Part 1/2. Got to be some reasoning behind this...?
you're phantom pain

So,i just realized that the patriots took venom as an inspiration for the S3 plan,"anyone can be shaped to be like snake, even rookies can fight like a man with experience"

So someone on /r/neverbegameover said that playing the opening mission with your name set to the konami code changes the way kaz looks in the picture you're given. People are still looking into it, but some ps3 users have been saying that it's actually a thing.

https://www.reddit.com/r/NeverBeGameOver/comments/3m6543/tried_something_regarding_the_konami_code/

I've also seen some claiming that it isn't the konami code but actually a last gen specific bug, but that seems weird to me and I've yet to see screenshots of this that didn't come from a potato.

Thought i'd share. Not too into the conspiracy stuff but after PT I can see why some remain hopeful.

That pic of ishmael's face is so confusing, wondering if that part is an hallucination or something.
Maybe big boss has a fake eye and he can grow a full beard in few seconds.

To be fair, this was his first go around with self hypnosis. It's not till mgs4 that he truly masters being a cool guy while hypnotized
He says in the tapes, "this is nothing new in my line of work." Why are people assuming this is the first attempt at self hypnosis?

Ocelot was totally neglected as a character on this game. Outside of two tapes and a few seconds of dialog, he could have been any other person. Total waste of his appearance.

Regarding Venom and his surgery... The dude just woke up from a decade of drug induced mind fucking and could barely stay awake. The mirror schtick may have been the trigger to initiate the delusion like the Man Who Stole the World tape was the trigger to end it.

Taken from the other thread:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NmtBAVjAa-w

You can kill The Man on Fire (Volgin) using fully upgraded and charged stun arm in one hit, he dies the same way he died in MGS 3, this game.

wait, so the man on fire can be killed there ?
he doesn't come back only to be crushed by Sahelantropus later ?
And you can even fulton it, so that mission where you have to retrieve his body never happens ?

He says in the tapes, "this is nothing new in my line of work." Why are people assuming this is the first attempt at self hypnosis?

i know you know i was joking

you have to have known i wasnt serious

Ocelot is basically just an tool for exposition in MGSV. Hell, he even seems bored when he's conducting his torture, which he does in this game more than any other.

He's lacking the youthful glee he had in MGS3 and doesn't have the nefarious trolling villainous attitude from MGS 1 and 4. He's just a guy who oscillates between having a southern drawl and not having one and also hey he's good at torture and keeping you informed on stuff. That's kinda it.

You could replace ocelot in this game with Medic Guy's best friend from medic school and the series would see zero impact regarding its canon.
