Uncharted 2 PS4 Gameplay

If it played great it wouldn't need boatloads of aim assist to make up for the problems inherent with going 30 fps.
Destiny and Order 1886 play great at 30FPS and have less input lag than some 60FPS games. Order especially feels fantastic and way above the typical 30FPS game due to insanely good motion blur. I hope UC4 will be the same way.

Here's the archive of me playing with GAFers about an hour ago.

I played bits of all 3, maninly the intro. I also turned Depth of field on and off so we can examine the differences.

edit: freshly posted so HD versions are still rendering!

Excellent, looks like they added destruction? I don't remember the cover breaking apart like that.
Drake's Fortune had that breakable cover originally.

It's funny seeing players struggle with UDF AI recoiling from getting shot or dodging the next few bullets because Perfect Dark Zero pre-trained me to deal with that challenge.

Uncharted 1 looks terrible

I'm excited about this! I'm staying away from videos just because I want to replay these all in one go. I also am hyped about the UC4 multiplayer demo. This is going to be great during the Winter!

I know for sure im getting UC4, but I don't know if 2 and 3 are games I really want to replay...that being said I did never play 1, is it worth picking this up just to play 1 remastered?

Personally if your characters are shit I really don't care about the overall story. A by the numbers story however can be quite enjoyable with good characters.

When you aim in, the camera angle (or model positioning?) makes it look like Drake is shooting 45 degrees to the right of where the reticle is.

Uncharted 1 was definitely a weird one for quirks like that. It doesn't look like they altered the shooting camera position at all compared to the PS3 version.

They did tweak the controls to bring it in line with the other two at least, which is more important. But it looks like it still retains some of the jankiness the original game had. ND was still figuring out what they were doing with a third person shooter and the PS3 at that point. Definitely hasn't aged as well as 2 and 3 as far as gameplay and animations.

I dont think they should have changed it. It gives Uncharted 1 its own personality you know? I kind of like it. And it is awesome too that we can see the evolution across the games.

This is looking super slick. The ludicrous amount of detail and care that's gone into the environments in 2 and 3 especially is going to look so lush with this IQ, and all the movement and spectacle during scripted moments will be pretty nuts at 60fps. It's something I always felt made the chaotic action moments of the Modern Warfare campaigns work so well, despite often being more limited and on rails.

It's sure gonna set UC4 up to feel pretty weird, though. It's almost a little odd that they'd invite the inevitable, unfavourable comparison in controls and sensation of velocity and motion.

I think it should be noted that had they decided to change it, some shootouts would be much harder to deal with. The camera angle (like in the first image) gives you more leeway to shoot from a lower angled position and the reticle placement let's you hit enemies while you're still safely behind a wall. If it were more like UC2, that area in the first image would be tricky to actually preemptively shoot the guy near the stairs.

There's other instances like that room where the angle Drake is aiming is actually good vs bad. It just looks awkward now because of UC2 and UC3's aiming angle were more normalized. However, DF was designed with the camera angle in mind. Change that and then you'd have to change some rooms in the game to accommodate that change.

Another area in which the camera angle is incredibly useful to succeeding in a section is the area where you first encounter your second turret guy -- he's like on the second floor of the fortress you meet Eddy Raja in. And that part they bottleneck you up against a wall with like very small amounts of cover. If you place yourself back up against a pillar a certain way (without taking cover with circle) you can position the camera/reticle/aiming just right that you can kill all the enemies (aside from the turret guy) without them being able to shoot you. Only caveat with it is the grenades they throw sometimes (which can be really bad lol).

And while it might sound like I'm describing corner shooting like you can do in UC2 it's a little more nuanced and slightly different from that in UC1 due to the angle Drake is aiming and if the angle he was aiming at was more like UC2 it wouldn't be possible to do the same way.

Speaking of that, I wonder if they went out of their way to remove corner shooting in the other games... since in UC3 it doesn't exist at all. Maybe they've kept it in UC1 and UC2 as it would be difficult to remove without altering the aiming/camera/reticle stuff?

It's a wonder that other games haven't used UC's grenade aiming. It so much better and faster than waiting and placing a grenade arc.
