Street Fighter V Roster Discussion: P-P-P-P-PATTERN BREAKER

Bring back Birdie
I just realized that Birdie wasn't in SF4 and hasn't been around since the Alpha titles. The game is very Alpha heavy. Nice to see these once forgotten characters finally back in the spotlight.

It would be nice to see Eagle come back.

Blanka is a given.

That bald shoto from the (Rufus?) concept art going around for years would be really cool to see finally realized.

And a special guest appearance from Terry Bogard would probably put me in shock for a week and then a second time upon release.

I'm honestly more pro-Yang, but I respect Yun.

There's a dragon for each person. Yang is accessible to many, but I'm a Yun kind of guy. He's confident with the ability to prove it, thus he's not to stand still before a challenge. Plus he has baseball cap.

I'm also Dong Hwan > Jae Hoon.

Normally Yun players disgust me but you're all right in my book after this

Jae Hoon is for nerds

That's how I feel about
Yang.

But he's still fun to play tho. He actually kept one of the best moves in their history. Rolling Senkyutai and Tenshin-Senkyutai.

But once you master Gen-Ei Jin and 3S Yun you can live without it. If Yun kept Senkyutai I could see players losing their damn minds.

chef and busboy alts were my favorite for some reason, lol

I think Street Fighter V like Street Fighter x Tekken before it, will prove that people will say they want a game that rewards fundamental play more, when they really don't.
SFxT didn't reward fundamental play at all. Quite the opposite in fact, unless you were planning on winning by time overs.

The more I think about it the more I feel that Alex and Urien will be on the initial roster. Why? Because if they give out all the WW right away this may hurt their DLC sales. More people are willing to spend real cash on super famous characters like Guile, or dhalsim or Akuma. So I am sure Alex and Urien is it. And beezlebufo or however you spell his name is trolling you guys hardcore lmao.

I think fundamentals should be rewarding for beginners and novices, but should not be the end determining factor for intermediate and up. At that point you should want to step out of your comfort zone to get better and take risks.

what's your definition of street fighter?
Mid range zone control with the possibility of high risk high reward plays based on yomi.

Vanilla SFxT forgot the second half and just turned into fishing for shit with safe chains and EWGFs until something got hit or the timer went out, whatever happens first

I always thought about it the opposite way , casuals are most likely not going to stick around so it's better to give them a more recognizable initial roster .

Hardcore players are going to buy them game and play regardless . So Alex and Urien will be Dlc.

But fundamentals is general concept, whoever is the best at it with that initial game they will most likely beat whoever they face. It's one of the most important things to actually winning since it incorporates about everything about your character and the games mechanics. You can't just say fundamentals should stop at a certain point. That's how you get vortex characters and other dumb shit in games.

Not saying it should stop at some point. I'm saying that it shouldn't be enough at high level.

My thoughts are more that it would cannibalize in ways that wouldn't be good for either title if both have the same model. (I also don't see a piecemeal strategy working for a VS game if they go that direction.)
I thought it would be even better, because with 2 titles people can't keep up via Fight Money, and they will spend more out of impatience. Hell, what if Capcom made Fight Money tied to your PSN account so you could use it on either game interchangeably?

yea, at some point you'll need to step it up with strategy, mindgames, reads, set-up tech, etc.
Doesn't fundamentals cover most of these things since its such a broad concept? Like you wouldn't know how to do any of these things without fundamentals of the games mechanics.

we have no idea what stages will be in this game, let a lone alex being confirmed and alex's stage being confirmed.

If we believe the Siliconera and Ken Bogard leaks (the only ones they correctly guessed everything until now and didn't have any mistake), the reamining characters are Alex, Urien, Laura and Zen.

Siliconera guessed that Mika and Karin was going to be in the roster, and they also leaked Alex and Urien. So it's pretty sure they will be in.

I guessed Karin and a Japanese stage was going to be announced at TGS because of the Siliconera list, Karin being the most popular character in Japan acording to their poll and because it's a big event and they still didn't have a stage in that big market.

Regarding Alex's stages, I was talking about his SFIII stages. They are set in New York:

Seems that SFV won't have character specific stages, but make sure they will have at least 1 US stage because it's the biggest gaming market and they already announced 2 characters from there, plus the 3rd one that would be Alex.

Alex would be the last character from USA of the initial 16 roster to be announced, so it would fit to announce their USA stage at the same time than the character. And it would happen in NYCC because Capcom is going to be there and because the character is from there.

Same goes with the Brazilian stage that we already saw, I think they'll include it in the playable builds once they announce Laura. And I bet this will happen in the Brazilian gaming event where Ono will assist.

In future events like PGW, PSX/Capcom Cup finals and others they would announce Urien, Zen, beta details, game mode details, DLC details and who knows, maybe a brand new final boss and a hidden character(s) like Akuma.

even if they don't give us that option with fight money, Capcom Fighters Network as a cross-game hub/one account type thing would be really cool. you could check someone's profile to see what they're up to in mvc4 or whatever lol

exactly. I'm looking forward to the stun set-ups in V. I wanna see shit like that RX Urien gif I made a while back again.

3s is the GOAT fighting game, but no thanks on the 1 hitter quitters. I'm sure Urien will have tricks, though. OTOH, I do hope all of the evil shotos and high rushdown characters have shorter stun meters. Cammy could use one.

lol this is only possible after the first round tbh, but even still, my point is, that you should be able to look at high level play at a glance and know where you stand instantly.

fundamentals is like, more high level strategy stuff. is it my turn to press a button? against someone who's defensive/aggressive/whatever, what mindset do i need to have? will i flinch when someone's pressuring me, or have some confidence in my ability to block it out? will i crack if the timer is running out and i'm at a life deficit?

obviously, but i'm not sure pretending to be obtuse on the internet is anything to be proud of

i might be too old to "get" the appeal of trolling though so what do i know
There's pretending to be obtuse and then there's tryhard "trolling" that is so bad it edges on parody.

If you guys fall for that can't blame anyone but yourself lol. Not that it isn't annoying but I fail to see how anyone would take those posts even remotely seriously even if being annoying is their intent.

I always viewed fundamentals as basics. Defense, knowing your buttons and executions. Counter hits, safety etc. along with reads (to an extent)

And viewed the advanced stuff as in knowing the system, set-ups, mechanics, techniques, exploits.

A fundamentalist could probably do damage off a read.

But an advanced player should kill. imo.
