"I only want to use the most efficient interrogation techniques to ensure everyone involved is safe"

MGS1 Ocelot: "I sure am consistent."
Except on Eli, who Miller apparently had a soft spot for that we never see, because they need to explain why Eli would kill Miller but work with Ocelot in 20 years

Ocelot's problems aren't voice acting, they're writing. He just doesn't do or say anything interesting. His best scene is parroting information Big Boss told him about guns to the Mother Base soldiers.

He should have been a buddy, if only for a mission here and there. It would really be a crazy "HOLY SHIT FUCK YES" moment to have Ocelot and Boss fighting Skulls together.

I remember someone pointing out how much something like establishing that the target shooting on Mother Base was something Ocelot set up, with him trying to taunt you about beating records, would have done to give him character.

While we're on the subject, let us all admire Superior Short Hair Quiet:

I can almost look past my hangups about her being a psycho killer with no sympathetic backstory explaining her acts of murder.

Getting some mid-2000s Alizée vibes here.

Despite my dissapointment with the unfinished story,i still love this game.
Venom is starting to grow on me and i feel kinda sad for the guy,he was so brainwashed by the legend of big boss.
Quiet and her relationship with Venom is the best part of the game,so tragic.
Also,i wish you could unlock XOF Quiet because she is so badass.

That's such a nice picture.

Having a hard time understanding this the way you worded it. Are you saying the game does establish that, or someone said it'd be a cool idea?

EIDT: Ah, never mind, I'm being dumb. Re-read it and I understand now.

The conversation after the credits heavily hints that Ocelot eventually kills Miller.

I dunno, maybe, maybe not. It hints that he kills him by Miller saying "We'll have to kill each other someday," but that's some real psychic fortune teller shit.

Liquid was leading the Shadow Moses unit, Liquid was pretending to be Miller, he either killed Miller himself or farmed it out to Ocelot but either scenario has him being the one who decided to do it.

i wish you could re-recruit quiet post-50 just for free roaming ;p miss my sniping partner

i re-did mission 11 and she's even in my Brig again lol tried doing missions 12-14 to see if I could trigger some re-recruit (like how if you re-do 14, you can re-recruit Viscount, etc) no such luck

So alternate/secret ending? How?

And is there a new game + option or do you just ... Go back and play some missions over at random? Because after Venom punches a mirror and walks away it just kind of goes back to the chopper. And what was that about Quiet and Venom did they have a relationship or...?

Yeah.

This makes me want to play MGS3 and then MGS4 and just like forget everything else.

It's some dumb motivation. Better if it was

Liquid: "Hey I want to mess with Snake, go kill this guy."
*Ocelot remembers a time when Miller cut in line at the Diamond Dog mess hall."
Ocelot: "Okay"

Zimmerman would've done better. I mean it still wouldn't be great, but at least he'd sound like Ocelot.

"Maybe you're a spy. Maybe I'm a spy" scene would've gone from ok to memorable under Zimmerman, at least. I do agree the character as super underwritten in this game, though.

Aaaaaaagreed. But its clear Kojima didn't want Baker imitating Zimmerman anyways since supposedly he was told by the voice directors (so from Kojima->Kris Zimmerman->Baker) that he should try to sound more like Joel. I think this was said in his interview with "The Codec", which features Yongyea but is hosted by another dude.

(I can't believe Yong really thinks people's complaints are only about the ending, its like #47 on my list of complaints, chronological order, there's so much that's sooo much worse besides it, even though it is also really bad, and badly done.)

"I only want to use the most efficient interrogation techniques to ensure everyone involved is safe"

MGS1 Ocelot: "I sure am consistent."

That was borderline character assassination. I swear, Ocelot must have not trusted himself to not go ape shit and be a kooky motherfucker who might mess up the mission with this one so he hypnotized all of his character away. "If I enjoy torture too much I might have some kind of character beyond my given role of iDroid Wikipedia, can't have that now can we... La-Li-Lu-Le-Lo, La-Li-Lu-Le-Lo, La-Li-Lu-Le-Lo."

Don't you tell me you didn't read that in true Ocelot Pat Zimmerman's voice. At least Major Ocelot's voice, please.

You can unlock the XOF outfit, which improves her character 1000%.

I wish it came with her shorter hair, though.

Agreed, no shorter hair is dumb. No allowing Quiet to sneak up alongside you and act as an NPC sidekick up close is also dumb. Would have been so cool...

Except on Eli, who Miller apparently had a soft spot for that we never see, because they need to explain why Eli would kill Miller but work with Ocelot in 20 years

Ugh! Forgot about that. Soo ridiculous, somewhat better if we choose to believe that Ocelot killed him as was implied in V and Liquid just went with the impersonation because of blonde hair, he had some sunglasses hanging around, and he wanted to spook Solid so hard.

Eli probably hates when people act nice like Venom and apparently Miller, and really loves being treated like shit, which we can only assume uncle Ocelot provided very well. What a retroactively fucked up and stupid character. I choose to willfully ignore Liquid being so fucking dumb in the past.

I like the story and I think it works better than most give it credit for, but I have no idea why Ch. 2 is called "RACE." I mean, sure, I can understand that at some point, the original draft of the story might've had themes along those lines. But in the final product, the bulk of the race themes are in Ch. 1 (the ethnic cleansing operation, etc). I think they had an opportunity to make Ch. 2 feel more focused by simply changing the title card of the chapter so that its unifying theme would be more apparent.

Personally, I think "Peace" would've worked better as the Ch. 2 title. I know that was the original title for Ch. 3, and who knows what that chapter would've entailed, but it would've worked nicely for the Ch. 2 we got, as well.

It'd be used in an ironic sense -- Skull Face is dead and the Diamond Dogs should feel at peace, but their leadership is aimlessly adrift and haunted by past sorrows and a lack of fulfillment from revenge. That's the backdrop to all of these loosely connected incidents that occur in Ch. 2. It's the recurring conversation they keep having. If you think of Ch. 2 as a short story collection following the standalone adventure of Ch. 1, "Peace" would be fitting theme.

It also sounds cool: Ch. 1 "REVENGE" and Ch. 2 "PEACE." They go well together.

Wouldn't fix everything, though.

Well, remember the events go MG and MG2 are between this and MGS, where Miller helps Snake against Big Boss, so surely there's some big falling out b/w Ocelot and Miller.

either way, people fixating on how 'weird' Ocelot acts is a little confusing. Are people expecting the same brash 20 year old from 20 years ago?

for all the things this game did wrong...the game is still good. pics like this remind me that i am eternally sad now

I had to go back to Ground Zeroes for some screenshots for an article and, while GZ was a surprisingly good looking game, I am amazed by how much better MGSV looks. Even though it's cross-gen, the game is often really fucking beautiful, even in a barren desert.

Can we interact with code talker at mother base? I see him at the top of the Command Center platform everytime my helicopter picks me up to go to ACC but when i quickly return he's not there anymore.

I think Chapter 2 being called Race works better with Mission 51 involved. That ending had a very child vs adult, generation vs generation feel. The "race" of child vs the "race" of adult, perhaps?

Well he's different from both 20 years ago and 20 years later

He dramatically changed personality for one 40 year span. Even if we assume he matured in response to his love for Big Boss, and changed back as a result of his death, it still has a really weird place where we have one moment of Ocelot history where he's just a guy who no real defining personality quirks.

If Chapter 3 is really tied to global disarmament, I think Chapter 2 being called Race is more about the meta game of FOB invasions. It's about the arms race with people developing weapons to try to better defend and attack each other. The problem with that is there is an end point in terms of possible tech.

well, not the exact same kid but he becomes rather brash and flamboyant in MGS again, so he didn't seem to have changed that much ;p

aaaah the thrilllllll of reloading in combaaaaaaaaaat

Except on Eli, who Miller apparently had a soft spot for that we never see, because they need to explain why Eli would kill Miller but work with Ocelot in 20 years

Because their motivations had changed. By mgs1, miller had basically gone straight working as a survival instructor at various special forces groups, he even worked with Solid Snake--Eli's enemy. And basically he could pass for Miller over Codec so that was an easy way "in" to Snake's operation. Ocelot meanwhile was completely onboard with the terrorist uprising considering he basically worked with Gurlukovich and Solidus to set it up.

I have no idea. Even looking at "Race" in a figurative sense, it's hard to see where it applies to Ch. 2. I think Ch. 2 is solid but I can't figure out the name.

They're a little chatty for Big Boss, but damn that art is nice

I like the comic but my problem is that the Venom presented in the game would probably not be keen on the "So I'm going to gather all the world's nukes and a shitload of child soldiers and just fuck the world up because BOSS" plan.

And we're never going to know how Big Boss got there mentally.

Maybe Venom changed too after MGSV. BUT THEN WHAT'S THE POINT OF THIS GAME THEN

Eh, I'll allow him a calm middle period in his life.
i actually liked most of his scenes... all his training, busywork scenes were among my favorite hehe almost in a sort of XCOM way, I loved all the Mother Base prep, training, busywork

just didn't feel much like mgs or mgs3 ocelot but oh well... probably not even in my top 5 list of concerns with the game :D so not a big deal. i'll just figure it was the self-hypnosis and him trying to be the mature leader of the group hehehe

Ask yourself the same question for any other character. The answer is always no, since you can't do anything but look at Quiet and (Optional content that everyone should play but a majority probably haven't spoiler)
Paz isn't real. Any interaction with her could be seen as really Venom just interacting with his past self in a weird way
.

The most moving thing to come out regarding MGSV is still this comic

Yup, even though it ruins my head canon that Venom gets pissed that Solid Snake does better than he and BB expected, realizes the hypocrisy of BB and himself in regards to the Boss' sacrifice and will, punches the mirror and prepares to fight Solid to the death, gunning for BB if he survives at the end. Enough theories do a better job of explaining, but the end cutscene has a time skip shown by BB's appearance change (to a demon, who according to the in game morality system must have killed a fuckton of people after 1984), the logo changing from DD to Outer Heaven, and the guns being missing from the table compared to the beginning of the game.

BB strings him along with the cult of personality they "share", and works towards their increasingly evil goals. But after Solid does better than BB&V expect, BB breaks off contact as he prepares to gtfo of Foxhound and abandons Venom. Thus Venom's mood change between listening to the tape and later when the logo shows Outer Heaven and being pissed+"I'm already a demon" jam on his face and horny rock.

Sniper Wolf Quiet is pretty good

...for the zero missions I got to use it on.
yeah lol =(

i wanted to use her... ummm... 'canon' outfit for all the story cutscenes and then i figured, i'll use her sniper wolf and xof uniforms en masse after a finish the game and i'm just doing free roaming

.....yeah... didn't work out so well lol

Replaying the skullface mission and it's so weird how huey is reluctant to tell ocelot where skullface is. Why? He's supposedly held against his will by the guy for years. Ocelot was threatening TO MELT HUEYS FUCKING LEGS. Why the trepidation, in giving up the intel? You don't even like the motherfucker. I was thinking what if Miller is threatening Huey not to talk for whatever reason. While Ocelot was threatening Huey. Kaz is just starring at huey, his expression obscured by his shades. Kaz is usually the bad cop to ocelots good cop. Huey's entire arch is just weird in how much of a piece of shit he seemingly is. And we have this unresolved plot thread that is "eyes on kazuhira". The guy who's apparently embezzling funds.

I'm giving this too much thought, we probably won't get answers. Maybe there aren't any.

The outfit you choose for her doesn't affect the cutscenes, I'm pretty sure.

I had her in the Gold outfit during the torture scene but I guess they didn't want anything obscuring your view of the veins in her tits.

even for just the gameplay I still wanted it though because i like to record all my gameplay (my 'playthrough story') and archive it, just a dumb half-ocd thing... where I guess i figure since it is supposed to be her outfit (so she can breath or whatever excuse it was to make her naked) then i might as well use it.

he's a sort of naive coward so i think his tendency is to try ignore things and pretend they aren't happening and maybe they'll go away

My interpretation of the mirror scene is Venom's smirk and nod is him agreeing with BB and feeling good about the two-man legend, but when they flip the tape and there's the time lapse and Solid Snake is at his doorstep in Outer Heaven, Venom curses his fate as an expendable meat shield and probably isn't too happy with BB.

I've come to really like Venom, so it's bittersweet that this is the first and last time we see him. (In the modern 3D games, I mean)

i'm so miffed by this

i get you want to give me a phantom pain or whatever kojima but I'm using WORMHOLE TECH on MISSIONS I'VE ALREADY BEEN ON

hell if you beat Quiet again she turns up in the brig, you just can't ever use her again (until you mod her back in i guess)

"I only want to use the most efficient interrogation techniques to ensure everyone involved is safe"

MGS1 Ocelot: "I sure am consistent."

I like how Ocelot is suppose a master of interrogation but couldn't get any useful information out of Huey. It is not like Huey has a strong will.
