"The technology wasn't there at that point, but the concept of an invisible missile from a rail gun seems to have been already planned by Big Boss. And the idea became a reality in American hands following Outer Heaven -- Metal Gear is the phantom of Big Boss, in a sense. It's no wonder Snake is so obsessed with the destruction of Metal Gear; to him, it truly is the 'evil past'. But to us, it's the gospel to a new world -- a blessing."
Exactly. Solid Snake is the true hero of the series. He has a heart and he has a soul. He has feelings as real as any man. To hear Kojima say otherwise is bewildering.Solid Snake is the most humane Snake. This guy takes a depression trip to Alaska almost everytime he finishes a mission. What Liquid said to him on MGS1 and what Grey Fox said to him made him change his ways. MGS2 started with Solid Snake following his own convictions, fighting for what he believes in. Not only that, he brought a tranquilizer gun to avoid killing. Solid Snake is probably the only humble Snake out of the Big Boss family.

I'm surprised Kojima resisted the temptation to make the Man on Fire crotch grab Venom during the Afghanistan scene and then realise that he isn't Big Boss.

excellent
I imagine being fondled by the Man on Fire would be... unpleasantMan on Fire grabbing Venom's crotch, going "nooope" and then killing himself via Sahalanthropus would have been the greatest moment in the series.
Dont knock til youve tried broI imagine being fondled by the Man on Fire would be... unpleasant
Yeah, I absolutely have no idea what Kojima is talking about there.
I think he just fell in love with Big Boss like Toriyama fell in love with Lightning and, like Kojima does, love is a zero-sum game.
That's the beauty and irony of it all. SS, a clone turns out to be the best of the bunch who are so called "real" human beings.
You guys bring up great points. Solid Snake didn't want to shoot because he'll kill Fox as well. He felt really sad when Grey Fox was killed by Liquid.Solid cannot pull the trigger to kill Gray Fox, even when it would have meant killing Liquid and completing the mission.
Naked was told "ok go kill your mother figure, mentor, leader, because america needs it". Naked goes "can do!" and promptly bops The Boss, thus receiving the title of Big Boss, which he will pass on to some random soldier he had plastic surgery made on to look like him.
No emotions my ass!

This was one of those "I think I gave Kojima too much credit as a writer in 1998" things for me.
Did Kojima forget about Snake's speech at the end of MGS2?
For sure. I think The Medic/Venom is just an introvert, while Big Boss is an extrovert. I think Sutherland did a good job differentiating the two tones.I remember early on people talking about how it's too bad Snake is more or less a silent protagonist now, talking on;y at key points and less than that at several major plot points. I find this to be interesting, and beyond the behind the scenes reason site of Keifer being expensive to get in the booth. I feel like, in hind sight, it really shows one of the differences between BB and Venom.
We've played as Solid Snake multiple times, and he like his son was pretty damn chatty. Boss doesnt talk TOO much during Ground Zeroes, but he talks a good bit in the tapes (much more than venom) and does talk a bit here and there during the actual main mission. Even if it was less than what we are used to, during Ground Zeroes, Boss was still Boss.
I guess we can gather that Venom/medic before his transformation and hypnotism into BB just... wasn't that talkative of a guy. I feel like that is just a temperament and nature that people just have and may be something that simply could not be overwritten. By the time of TPP, he'd be so... broken down that you could see Venom really have no words for many moments, especially if he was already rather silent before his forced transformation.
Bison
The Black Chamber, was born in the shadow of Fox-Hound.
Snake
Go on.
Bison
even years ago, you destroyed Metal Gear here in Outer Heaven, and
put Fox-Hound in the headlines. Everyone in the world knew the name
'Solid Snake'....and so you became the 'Legend.'
Snake
........
Bison
But Fox-Hound got too famous. Since Outer Heaven, its every move was
watched by intelligence organizations everywhere. Truly covert
operations became impossible. So Black Chamber was created. We took
over every covert ops that had been Fox-Hound's - assassination of
anti-American foreign leaders, removal of domestic civilians engaged in
anti-establishment activities, intervention in strifes and civil wars that
affect American interest....doing the dirty work in the dark, on and on
in the shadow of the great 'Legend'....
Owl
Heh, heh, heh. Viper - he lost his left arm in that hell, but he won't
use his prosthetics, not usually. Do you know why?
Snake
No.
Owl
Because every time he looks at the stump, he can remember his lost
comrades and vow vengeance on 'Anonymous' all over again....
'General'
.... A winner's privilege. After all, you have the right to know -
about Outer Heaven, Metal Gear, Project Babel, and the link between GLF
and the U.S....Outer Heaven was a U.S-backed venture that provided
mercenaries to its 'clients.' It was a way to unofficially check anti-
American forces, and the idea apparently originated with the DDCI [Deputy
Director of Central Intelligence] of the time.
'General'
But the field commander, Big Boss, was a loose cannon that broke out of
the program, and Outer Heaven was brought down by you. As a part of a
plausible denial of their involvement in Outer Heaven, the government
constructed a hero myth, handed you and Fox-Hound to the international
media. That is the truth behind your rise to the status of 'Legend.'
Snake
........
'General'
Ha, ha, ha. Shocking, isn't it? To learn that your glory was a staged
one?
The objective was diminishment of anti-American
forces in the African continent. Provoke an ethnic minority in Gindra
into a calculated conflict, then involve other neighboring nations.
Create a climate of hostility to discourage organized alliance, then send
a contingent of U.S-dominated peacekeeping troops for an indefinite stay,
where they can exercise control over the entire region. It was a bid to
build a new world order in the confusion of the post-Cold War era....a
means to establish the U.S. as the sole superpower, a single hegemony
over an artificial Babel, manageable chaos....This was Project Babel
Snake
Who is this! McBride!!
McBride
Surprised, Snake....? After I survived two years ago, I parted from the
others and slipped into your side. I changed everything - my face, name,
past - to gather information for our cause. Everything I did was for
this moment.... Do it, Viper! This is it!
Man on Fire grabbing Venom's crotch, going "nooope" and then killing himself via Sahalanthropus would have been the greatest moment in the series.
Whoa, this is crazy. So TPP is lifting some key concepts from Ghost Babel?.....
Just read the interview. If that's how he feels I can now understand how he's been writing this garbage. He has said before he prefers writing Big Boss to Solid Snake because he views Snake as a fake human incapable of expressing emotions.

It goes against Solid's entire character arc and the themes of his own games.Just read the interview. If that's how he feels I can now understand how he's been writing this garbage.
How does he say that when Solid Snake is clearly the most human one?

Flaccid Snake, long-lost son of Solid Snake. "But I just fought," he says, flopping down on the couch. "Time to sleep."Solid Snake has a son!?
I can't wait to play as Turgid Snake in 2035.

We sure it was Kojima and not some unknown ghost writer who actually penned the 1st 3 games? I'm kidding but cmon Kojima, wtf bruh.

I'm completely fine with Venom being a man of few words. I still pick up a mood how he's feeling from what he doesn't say, from his body language and facial expressions and the context of each scene.
Only thing that seems odd to me is that -other- people don't notice this difference in temperament. Like, "Hey, BB seems kind of a Debbie Downer lately."
I guess they dismiss it as, "Well I haven't seen him in nine years, I guess he softened up after his near-death experience."
This is becoming increasingly evident. Everything after 3 has been pretty god damn awful.Maybe Fukushima had a huge hand in it.

Yeah, Miller and Ocelot (who hypnotized himself) both still think Venom is the real BB, but it does seem like their more aggressive personalities take charge, filling the vacuum left by Venom's quiet, introspective, Type B personality.I feel like Miller was pretty damn okay with Venom's quietness, it gave him room to push himself into even more of a controlling role as he became even more obsessed with the destruction of Ceifer. BB would have told him to calm down, that their goal was something else... but Venom just stayed silent as the introvert he is, and let Millers more dominant personality keep going as he was.

Maybe Kojima thinks clones can't be human because Kojima himself is a clone, a 12-year-old boy, while the Kojima we see -- the perpetually youthful man -- is just a body double, the result of plastic surgery.Kojima's not human so I'm not sure he's the most qualified to assess how "human" a character is![]()
I think that was the original idea, but people empathized with the clone and he had to carter to it...
just see Eli and how overly obsessed he is with anger, not human at all, lol
Yes anger is human. Maybe we should elaborate.
He's the only one who's not a sociopath.
I think I I misunderstood your post."it has eyes, arms, legs and it can talk!! it's human!!"
no, I don't think that is exactly what he meant with that, neither me, it is not "human" to feel such anger, but that is a very different discussion, and I don't necessarily feel the clones are not human since the games, specially MGS4 showed otherwise.
It's very much like the first 2 metal gears and the first VR missions.Guess I have to play Ghost Babel now.
