Solidus' end game was to free the people from the Patriots' control. Big Boss' end game was to create a world of perpetual war.
As a means to give work to the soldiers who were cast away just like he and the boss were. Seems to line up for me. Misguided but its what he believed in. No different from Solidus. He does what he believes is right with no regard to the cost.

So Quiet knows how to write things (she shot HBD in the cigar crates) but she couldn't write "you're infected with a vocal parasite that responds to Kikongo." No instead she just tries to cut out a man's tongue.

Ocelot confirmed he was in a tape.
I know it's mentioned in a tape, but I meant as a detail they paid attention to in the actual game mechanics, i.e. if I go to the KIA/quarantine/sickbay when the outbreak happens, would I see that specific soldier from the cutscene appear in there.

Nah, Eli just uses it and makes an island nation. Then Diamond Dogs carpet it in napalm and Psycho Mantis removes the disease from Liquid and then they go to New York City for funsies.

So this is the Mission 51 thing? That would answer my questions about Saehalenthropus and the third strain then.

Yeah this is bizarre. Why Quiet didn't communicate non-verbally, especially when she began to trust and/or love Venom Snake is another floating question.

I am now beginning to realize that all MGS needed to completely beat my suspense of disbelief to a pulp was to turn into resident evil.

Parasites and revenge.

I could live with nanomachines, Ai, deterrence, ghosts in the shell, a man controlling bee's, actual fucking ghosts, raiden throwing a metal gear 50 stories into the air, hypnotherapy, etc.

But Metal gears powered by revenge and parasites making soldiers that make cyborg ninjas look tame in comparison is what finally broke the last straw.

After Quiet exits, and you play her Extreme mission, you end up getting get again but she remains in the brig.
Now she's taking valuable real estate because I don't have room for any soldiers so I'm at 199 with one base and 200 with rest.
Unfair. I wish I could just kill her or dismiss her.

But I'll be able to have her as a buddy again, right?

I keep thinking about why it was necessary for us to play as a copy of Big Boss instead of the real thing. Since the story we got wasn't really about Big Boss at all, I can only guess that having the real Big Boss would have gotten in the way of the story Kojima wanted to tell. We already have a vague outline of what Big Boss was up to until Metal Gear, so if the story followed him, it would have to cover those events. Meeting familiar characters and seeing events play out that had only ever been talked about in the previous games would have made fans happier, but it would have also been boring. So I think it's obvious that Kojima felt it was really important to tell the story this way and it wasn't just for the surprise ending.

As far as the story itself goes, I think there's an interesting analysis to be done comparing the fall of Big Boss and MSF and their transformation into Venom Snake and Diamond Dogs to the changes we went through as a country in the US following 9/11. We sacrificed a lot of freedom and trust in our allies for revenge in a way similar to Snake and Kaz. It's no coincidence that Ground Zeroes takes place in Guantanamo. The Phantom Pain makes a lot of allusions to Sons of Liberty and resembles that game more than any other in the series. Sons of Liberty was released so shortly after 9/11 that content had to be cut or changed for the sake of sensitivity. Yes, there's a lot to look into there and I hope someone takes the time to write an in depth essay someday. I'm not gonna do it. It's too much work, but if I did do it I'd call it "Freedom Fries."

My biggest problem with the parasites is going back to explain the Cobra Unit. You didn't need to explain why The Pain had Bee powers or why The Fear was a weirdo. I was fine just assuming that WW2 super soldiers were just fucking magic. Why not?

If the parasites could affect Quiet's "clothing" and weapon, why wouldn't she be able to wear normal clothes? The parasites breath for her, after all. And if they can't, then Quiet shouldn't be wearing or using anything if she wants to dematerialise.

(I apologise in advance for applying logic to Metal Gear games.)

Does she ever actually get realised released from the brig either way? I've actually been wondering about that.

Quiet's allegiance was uncertain at best. The soldiers treated her like shit, Miller wanted her dead. She could not open up about her knowledge to anyone but Code Talker as it would have meant she'd be tortured for further information, given that they don't just kill her and burn her immediately since she's practically a bomb waiting to go off. Keeping them in the darkness was her only option.

George Lucas Syndrome.

An impossibly strong need to shrink the world.

Basically everything can be explained except for Psycho Mantis.

He was the result of some paranormal experiments in russia according to one of the tapes if I remember correctly. That same group collected Volgins remains and turned him into the man on fire.

Should have written them a salty note then.

Or used the blood from that guys mouth to write "Kikingo strain parasite y'all" on the side of Motherbase.

But yes I understand how Quiet being able to communicate would break certain late game reveals. I don't have as much of a problem with it as I do Code Talker's silence.

Are there tapes that explain how the fuck the skulls are even possible?

Or do I just need to accept "lol... parasites let you make rock armor, create mist, turn everyone in proximity into a zombie, cloak, run faster than a horse, and on extreme require 15 tank shots to kill"

Yup

Parasites, son.

Just like in Resident Evil.

You got to wait for metal gear solid x for that answer. When you least expect it. The major retcon for that game will be Solid Snake's hair color.

I think you're just supposed to accept that yeah.

As far as I remember there isn't a cassette that breaks down the Skulls abilities in detail with like, a parasite that can make its skin harder or something.

Problem is Star Wars still was large enough for other people to create stories in that world. MGS however has shrunk down so much, that everything is related to something else. Thats the reason I do not want anymore metal gears.

"YOOOO SNAKE! I somehow become the Darpa Chief!"

haven't figured out a way yet... I tried different things... S Rank and all Objectives for her missions, replaying Missions 12-14 to try trigger her scenes again, experimenting those things with a Butterfly logo, etc. No such luck, just appears in the Brig but that's it (not on Med platform, not in Buddy upgrades, etc). my guess is it's just an oversight from allowing you to replay Cloaked in Silence... if you notice, all the story recruit missions are labeled Replay, including Huey and Eli's, too. But if you finish Huey's, he doesn't change from Discharged under Former; it's just Quiet that goes from MIA to the Brig. So I guess just an oversight/bug.

if you aren't related/connected somehow to Big Boss or Zero you're irrelevant in the MGS verse.

Pretty much.

Man, the boss should have just put her will in writing so these two would fucking get it.

how the fuck do you even get "total world domination" or "world full of endless conflict so soldiers will always have a place" from what she said at the end of MGS3?

What sucks is MGS 1, 2, and 3 were written as if groups like The Cobras and Foxhound were common in the world. What a fantastically fun universe, a blend between supernatural and militarization.

Then 4 and V ruined it.
