Rock Band 4 announced for PS4 and Xbox One

Oh god, that freestyle guitar solo on Powerslave, it's ear cancer!

I think it's cool that they put some effort in and have tried to do some innovative things with this, but freestyle solo is honestly a feature I couldn't be less interested in and I don't think anybody really playing the game will use it.

But I have largely been playing for score for years and years so maybe I just don't know.

I think most people who play Rock Band are doing it for fun, not score, so any system that lets them express themselves and not get punished for it is going to be a bonus for them.

Fairly certain the RB drumsets have supported plugging in two kick pedals in past iterations (and I remember reading somewhere that's the case here), but not sure if the game will chart the double bass drum or not.

haha, sorry, Not sure why I put technical support, I've been using a splitter to hook up two pedals for years, it just always feels cheap since the game has always only charted for a single pedal. I've been fiending for Double Pedal charts in RB since GH:Metallica

Double kick pedals are supported starting with the rb3 drums I think?

This one has it for sure which is part of the reason I'm buying the band kit

also all the metal back to back had me kinda deflated on it but the blink 182 of all things turned it around. Fun for the instruments, fun to sing

yeah okay i'm back in

Yeah, as someone who doesn't give a shit about score, I plan on using it for the most part.

I've got SO much invested in Xbox 360 DLC that I'm really tempted to do this for party situations...unfortunately, the lack of compatibility with the wired instruments on the XBOX One is really holding me back as I really can't convince myself to buy new plastic instruments.

Yeah, same. I would much rather have a PS4 copy but I have literally hundreds of dollars of DLC on XBL. Although the lack of RBN support means my catalog is like, cut in half at least. So that sucks too. I'm still excited for RB4 but every time I read about it I'm disappointed a little

Yep, I've been buying multiplats on PlayStation 4 all generation, but keeping my Xbox 360 DLC made getting the Xbox One version a no-brainer.

Good to see that I'm not the only one. Now I'm just waiting for the inevitable snags where somehow it doesn't recognize that I exported the RB1 and RB2 tracks.

Thing is, you are scored for freestyled solos. I don't know if it's 1:1 equivalent with normal solos though.

It seems like, from what we've seen, a majority of people don't understand the prompts so they kind of free style, or don't vary the frets.

It's really good guys, you just need to learn how to do it!

GTFO harmonix, no way, I swear to god this launch shouldn't even be happening.

They've said repeatedly on the Rock Band Twitter that the cymbal pack should be out shortly after launch. Standalone instruments early 2016.

You've got to remember that they're dealing with incredibly unique circumstances compared to their past three games: a different market with demand for these games and no major backing from a big corporation beyond MadCatz (it's essentially an independent release) being two of the big things. They really can't afford to make all these extra instruments just for the boxes to take up store shelves and sit there if the demand doesn't exist.

Duh, but to not have preorders open for this shit is unacceptable, they've been trying to push preorders really hard, why would they not to the same with their hardware. They've been purposefully vague and really disorganized. The official FAQ states cymbals will launch on release day too btw. But that's obviously not happening.

Not 100% sure if it will work but just got a EA Live Chat Rep named Xane (he was legitimately a super nice guy) who sent me an extra Rock Band 2 > 3 Export Code

Does anyone still need one - it's for Xbox 360.

They are trying to re-launch an AAA publisher backed IP as an indie. Rome wasn't built in a day - they are doing pretty good all things considered.

So...from the stream...

Upcoming DLC plans?: There are upcoming DLC plans... Har fucking Har....Basically a non-answer. Seriously, hurry the fuck up HMX, the game's only a bit more than a week away from release, we need some details about the DLC shop at least.

So stupid....guess just expert next week. I'm not using my old crappy cymbals next week

I disagree whole heartedly

You disagree that they're doing good things? Yeah I guess letting you use your old instruments and letting you use dlc you purchased all the way back in 2007 is pretty garbage.

People are so fucking entitled these days. Go play Guitar Hero Live. I'm sure Activision will support that title for years and years.

Finally pre-ordered on PSN ... my first major digital game.

It's one of those games you always come back to so it makes sense to go digital for me.

I'll buy a guitar down the line if my brother absolutely needs one.

What sort of insult is that?

"Go play a really good game!"

I've played it.

It's really good.

Besides I'm not talking about the quality of the game. I'm taking about how Activision churns these things out on a yearly basis and flood the crap out of the market. I don't trust them one bit.

Plus if I want FMV I'll just play Night Trap thank you very much.

It's just such a shame that Activision's bullshit plans for ''dlc" sucks. I'm not a fan of the GHTV concept at all and I still don't know what songs are actually on the disc and what is being streamed in. Game actually looks great (though it being guitar only hampers my excitement since I primarily play drums) and the new control scheme looks like it could be fun. But eh, their plans just aren't appealing.

Yeah.

All those sequels that came out in the last few years.

And all those sequels that will come out in the future even though they literally can't improve the graphics or animations and the game is built as a service.

And FMV so shit right XD even though you only look at the fretboard.

Entitled? I'm sorry that I'm not excited about a product that is inferior to previous iterations in every possible way.

so i played RB on 360 before and moved to ps4 now

what's the best way to get the old games exports if i don't have any of the games on PS3?

Hmm, I wonder why they didn't make any sequels in the past few years. Oh, is it the 14 GH games they made in the span of 3 years? Please go to the the GHL topic and discuss how great of a game it is there. This is for RB4 discussion.

Back on topic. The career mode looks interesting. Looks more fun then RB3's career mode.

You are literally the dude who brought GH discussion into the thread in the first place.

if I wasn't already sold, they recorded a crowd sing-along of the synth line in the intro of Fever, holy fuck

I was playing Rebel Yell the other day and realizes how much I missed crowd singalongs in the later DLC for the game. That's good news.

Oh, you mean the game you brought up? Give me a fucking break. I suppose it's fine for you to talk about how bad it is?

Anyway, I'm doing my big RB DLC purchasing tomorrow. Any recommendation for sale songs?

I am in complete agreement with you. You don't take away like half of your features for your next game. The only reason I can think of as to why all these things aren't in there is if they somehow lost the rights to their old codebase when they split from MTV Games/EA or something. I can't imagine that they couldn't at least use it as reference material, even if they built everything from scratch again. It can't be that different.

On that note, I do want to thank HMX for getting me into real guitar. You'd think maybe that would have happened with them releasing the pro guitar, or maybe just making me enthusiastic about picking up a real instrument. No. They got me to play real guitar by stopping the release of DLC back in 2013. I was buying all the DLC every week and Rock Band was pretty much the only game I played. When they stopped releasing content, I stopped as well. I ended up picking up Rocksmith and have had massive amounts of fun and progress with it over the last two years. I use it both as a teaching tool and as a casual fun game, so it hits all the notes for me.
