....No offense, but how exactly does one mix these two songs up? I mean don't get me wrong, I like the Metal Gear Saga song, but jesus christ, the MGS2 main theme is just on a completely different level. That song IS Metal Gear Solid as far as I'm concerned.

Because Saga sounds inspired by the MGS2 theme to me.

I think I might have actually liked what this game did with its plot a little more if it turned out to be part of the Ghost Babel timeline. Thematic resonance aside, the idea of a game marketed as the MGS saga's missing link and Kojima's final entry in his life's work being dedicated entirely to the backstory of a semi-obscure non-canon Gameboy spinoff he didn't even write is hilarious.
Also, it'd let us kill Huey.
He did 'She's Rigged' and 'The Fall of Mother Base' from Ground Zeroes. You can definitely see they're on a different level to Burnett's scoring, though it was effective enough in context. Though Forssell's best contributions went underused, and Daniel James could have done more (at the very least, they could have used his version of Metal Gear Saga). I don't think any of Henifin's MGSV music was even on the OST...
Also, it'd let us kill Huey.

I don't know if anybody here is still following the ruse cruise, but apparently a reference to volume 3 has been found. For the uninitiated volume 1 was the intel cassette from Ground Zeroes, volume 2 is the tape from mission 46 "the truth". Both volumes combined turned up to a dead end as it appears the code was corrupted or altered. Also a reference to "LET" was found.

A lot of the stuff is absolutely aimless grabbing for straws. But there are a lot of oddities that only lead to more questions being asked regarding the story. One of the more interesting happenings right now is trying to decipher the 'bar codes' which appear when any tech is placed on screen.

I agree. My interpretation of that was he likes the idea of being one-half of the legend, at least at first. I say this based on the nod and smirk when he's told "we made this legend together" and "from now on, you're Big Boss." So he goes along with it at first. He then sours on the whole scheme after the time lapse, nearly a decade later, when Solid Snake is about to take him down in Outer Heaven. I think somewhere in that time, things went south in his life and he became less amicable to the plan. Perhaps he has been reflecting on some of the same things we've been discussing: How the whole body double scheme is a raw deal, and one that shows BB isn't the principled man we used to know.

I thought that at first, but then he breaks the mirror and looks pissed. Was that just a time jump after he found out (speaking of which, when did he find out?) and close to when MG1 started?

I know this isn't the most interesting interpretation of the scene, but I think he just broke the mirror for dramatic effect, not out of anger.
He learns the truth before the time lapse, and punches the mirror after the time lapse.
So it seems he was OK with the truth when he first learned it, but nearly 10 years later and he's singing a different tune.

the only thing I don't know how to interpret is the other "good" Venom walking away in the mirror. I don't wanna think it's that on the nose with his "good side" leaving him behind.

The Paz cassettes seam to just be retreads of cassettes in GZ. Atleast, they all sound familiar enough.
I was wondering about this myself. I'm curious to see how you guys interpret this. I do think there's meaning to how sometimes his reflection is demonic and other times it's heroic, etc, and how the reflection doesn't always match his real-life appearance. I'm just not sure what the meaning might be.
He realizes he's expendable and gets pissed off after listening to the Intrude tape, knowing this might be his end. That's why he punched the mirror.

Sometime later, the real BB rejoins Foxhound to take heat off himself and leaves Venom in charge. I think at this point Venom is bitter he is no longer the "public" version of BB, so he seeks to take over Outer Heaven on his own.
BB (as part of Foxhound) orders Solid Snake to off him and destroy the Metal Gear to take out Venom, the monster he created. Venom acquires the tape somehow, which details the mission for Solid to take him out.
That's only one of many interpretations, though.

Apparently it's from Parks and Recreation, found it on TV Tropes as an entry for "Hilarious in Hindsight". It works perfectly, considering, if you didn't notice, Christopher Randolph is narrating. I like to think this is a commercial he managed to produce for his small time personal burger joint he ran between MG2 and MGS.
problem with this here is, he smiled in acknowledging that they were both big boss. Then it's a time jump in outerheaven and he punches the mirror, so assuming that he punches the mirror because he's 'expendable', I think, is reaching. We're talking about a man who sacrificed himself for the bosses life already once.

lol, I just meant that instead of breaking it out of anger he could have been breaking it as a symbolic way of "rejecting" his medic persona and fully embracing the Big Boss persona, because before breaking it were were shown all the different incarnations of the medic, and afterwards we just see Big Boss.
Both very interesting theories. I think they're both perfectly plausible (and they could actually work together).

I think it's him playing a role. In fact the scene looks like an actor leaving to put makeup on then coming back "in the role". He's doing The Boss' thing.
