Kojima's taste in music is pretty amazing, especially for someone who doesn't speak much English.

Excellent use of existing songs.

Oh my bad, mixed them up.

....No offense, but how exactly does one mix these two songs up? I mean don't get me wrong, I like the Metal Gear Saga song, but jesus christ, the MGS2 main theme is just on a completely different level. That song IS Metal Gear Solid as far as I'm concerned.

Because Saga sounds inspired by the MGS2 theme to me.

Huh.

So the ending:
Venom (and the player) both want revenge on Big Boss. Both for having fooled them the entire game and making them do his bidding. So it is about revenge at the very end. In fact, we, as the player kind of become the villain along with Venom by wanting revenge on the real Big Boss.

I dunno, I didn't really feel like I became the villain. But that could be one interpretation of the ending.

Venom doesn't want revenge, he's totally down with the plan. Cracks a smirk when he finds out.

I think I might have actually liked what this game did with its plot a little more if it turned out to be part of the Ghost Babel timeline. Thematic resonance aside, the idea of a game marketed as the MGS saga's missing link and Kojima's final entry in his life's work being dedicated entirely to the backstory of a semi-obscure non-canon Gameboy spinoff he didn't even write is hilarious.

Also, it'd let us kill Huey.

I think HGW did a couple tracks on there, which, not to put down Ludvig Forssell, Justin Burnett or Daniel James, were some of the better pieces.

He did 'She's Rigged' and 'The Fall of Mother Base' from Ground Zeroes. You can definitely see they're on a different level to Burnett's scoring, though it was effective enough in context. Though Forssell's best contributions went underused, and Daniel James could have done more (at the very least, they could have used his version of Metal Gear Saga). I don't think any of Henifin's MGSV music was even on the OST...

I don't know if anybody here is still following the ruse cruise, but apparently a reference to volume 3 has been found. For the uninitiated volume 1 was the intel cassette from Ground Zeroes, volume 2 is the tape from mission 46 "the truth". Both volumes combined turned up to a dead end as it appears the code was corrupted or altered. Also a reference to "LET" was found.

*cues x-files theme

I love a good conspiracy. Any links?

I agree. My interpretation of that was he likes the idea of being one-half of the legend, at least at first. I say this based on the nod and smirk when he's told "we made this legend together" and "from now on, you're Big Boss." So he goes along with it at first. He then sours on the whole scheme after the time lapse, nearly a decade later, when Solid Snake is about to take him down in Outer Heaven. I think somewhere in that time, things went south in his life and he became less amicable to the plan. Perhaps he has been reflecting on some of the same things we've been discussing: How the whole body double scheme is a raw deal, and one that shows BB isn't the principled man we used to know.

I thought that at first, but then he breaks the mirror and looks pissed. Was that just a time jump after he found out (speaking of which, when did he find out?) and close to when MG1 started?

I know this isn't the most interesting interpretation of the scene, but I think he just broke the mirror for dramatic effect, not out of anger.

He learns the truth before the time lapse, and punches the mirror after the time lapse.

So it seems he was OK with the truth when he first learned it, but nearly 10 years later and he's singing a different tune.

Yeah that was what I was thinking as well, just making sure.

the only thing I don't know how to interpret is the other "good" Venom walking away in the mirror. I don't wanna think it's that on the nose with his "good side" leaving him behind.

I was wondering about this myself. I'm curious to see how you guys interpret this. I do think there's meaning to how sometimes his reflection is demonic and other times it's heroic, etc, and how the reflection doesn't always match his real-life appearance. I'm just not sure what the meaning might be.

He realizes he's expendable and gets pissed off after listening to the Intrude tape, knowing this might be his end. That's why he punched the mirror.

And yes, I totally thinks he wants revenge on BB afterwards. Remember we don't know where or how he got the tape. BB set up Outer Heaven, we know that much. Sometime later, the real BB rejoins Foxhound to take heat off himself and leaves Venom in charge. I think at this point Venom is bitter he is no longer the "public" version of BB, so he seeks to take over Outer Heaven on his own.

BB (as part of Foxhound) orders Solid Snake to off him and destroy the Metal Gear to take out Venom, the monster he created. Venom acquires the tape somehow, which details the mission for Solid to take him out.

That's only one of many interpretations, though.

More cut content from MGSV?

Notice the voice actor.

Apparently it's from Parks and Recreation, found it on TV Tropes as an entry for "Hilarious in Hindsight". It works perfectly, considering, if you didn't notice, Christopher Randolph is narrating. I like to think this is a commercial he managed to produce for his small time personal burger joint he ran between MG2 and MGS.

problem with this here is, he smiled in acknowledging that they were both big boss. Then it's a time jump in outerheaven and he punches the mirror, so assuming that he punches the mirror because he's 'expendable', I think, is reaching. We're talking about a man who sacrificed himself for the bosses life already once.

lol, maybe he wanted an excuse to get a new mirror :-P

lol, I just meant that instead of breaking it out of anger he could have been breaking it as a symbolic way of "rejecting" his medic persona and fully embracing the Big Boss persona, because before breaking it were were shown all the different incarnations of the medic, and afterwards we just see Big Boss.

Both very interesting theories. I think they're both perfectly plausible (and they could actually work together).

I think it's him playing a role. In fact the scene looks like an actor leaving to put makeup on then coming back "in the role". He's doing The Boss' thing.

I think the context matters. Outer heaven, blood on his face, gunfire in the background. Given his circumstances, chances are he has reason to be angry.

Paz's diary in GZ is herself as Pacifica Ocean, she's all like Cipher this and that.

On Paz's Diary in TPP she's all angel of peace and what not.

Very different tone.

Snake was intended to get caught, though, not to go wild and kill everyone including Boss/Venom. Why would Big Boss, the creator of Zanzibar Land, want Venom's Snake taken out after a heartfelt thank you letter in cassette form?

The TPP tapes, except for the last ones, are her diary tapes from Peace Walker.

Pax... Hamburgana?

Honestly thought this'd at least get a reaction from Neiteio. Gotta reduce my camo index...

I think you mean Atkin Downes.

What the hell? How could I have mixed them up? I'm pretty distracted by homework atm, yeah, that's my excuse.
I'm ashamed of my words and deeds.

Edit: Thanks for pointing it out btw. I even thought the name didn't sound right at first when I typed it but just waved it off.

Amazing coincidence.

You mean Robin Atkin Downes though. Christopher Randoplh voices Huey and Otacon.

Ocelot- "The real Big Boss is working separately from us, to create his new hamburgers. A hamburger above and apart from all - the true hamburger. It'll be an army of hamburgers all right, but more. Big Boss is building a new brand. But... until it's complete, we support the other Big Boss' hamburgers. The phantom carries on his legend... his hamburger. That, is Big Boss's plan."

Kaz- "So that's the way it is... Nine years ago, I thought every hamburger had been taken from me. But now, I really lost it all. The Boss, and the hamburgers we were building together."

Ocelot- "One day, the age of Big Boss' sons' hamburgers will arrive. They'll likely want to settle the hamburgers with him. We have to shape that hamburger. We'll each have fiddles to play. Building the brand for a hamburger led by both Big Bosses - the true one, and the phantom."

Kaz- "No... Big Boss can go to KFC. I'll make the phantom's and his sons' hamburgers stronger, to send him there. For that... I'll keep playing my fiddle."

Ocelot- "Huh. You know... Sooner or later there will be only one Boss' hamburgers. There's only room for one Boss' hamburgers. His sons are fated to face each other's hamburgers someday too. If the day comes that you go back to Cipher's hamburgers, I'll aid the other son's hamburgers. And then you and I will be enemy brands, too. One of us will have to eat the other's hamburgers."

Kaz- "Fine by me. I'll be ready for the new age of hamburgers. Until then, we'd better get used to coownering."

Shamelessly stolen from YouTube.

Incredible. "Big Boss can go to KFC," hahaha.
