I'm liberal and I agree with him. Nothing is going to change unless both sides of the argument find compromise.

What do you agree with him on? His reply was in response to a post sarcastically pointing out the impossibility of even discussing the concept of more gun control. The whole point is there are people who shut down these conversations because they don't want to compromise at all.

And it's hard to compromise when one side isn't willing to give an inch. You can't even mention gun regulation without people talking about forming local militias.

Neither side is willing to give an inch if these conversations are anything to go by.

No just because there are deranged idiots in this world, doesn't mean they need to infringe our right to bear arms for us law abiding citizens.

OT-This is terrible, RIP to the victims.
Better get ur flame shield brah.

Really tragic, drive by there every now and then when going down to Medford.

This makes me so fucking livid. We continue to do nothing about gun laws and people keep dying for it. Fuck this shit.

Is the count at 15 now?
Explain to me, what do you want to be done ? Do you think if guns get taken away killings would stop ? Criminals and other insane people will still find ways to get their hands on them. Us "Good" gun owners/enthusiast are the majority.

People want to hold on to their guns so that they can stand up to the government.

But maybe a government that lets this happen is what we really need to stand up to.

If we couldn't have them after sandy hook, I doubt it will ever happen sad to say.

And sadly, nothing will ever change. If a class of small children didn't get us to talk seriously about *real* gun control, then what will?

Making defeated statements such as these aren't going to contribute to progress but rather the preservation of the current situation. I'm not even a proponent for a complete firearms ban, but I do support stricter control, and have always voted for candidates who are pushing for more gun-control. If a gun-owner like me is willing to surrender gun rights then maybe it's not as hopeless as you imagine. I understand things aren't moving as fast as you'd like them to, but welcome to the speed of US politics. It's almost configured in a way so that changes take time.

First and foremost, RIP to the victims.

Now we will have talks about how guns need to be banned, at very long thread with a debate on gun control will be had, and nothing will change.

So sick and tired of this bullshit.

Well, good thing we have more than these conversations to go by. Look at the gun control laws that have been attempted in the past, do you see anything calling for an all out ban on guns?

This. All it takes is enough members of the House and Congress to get sick of these and decide that gun control is more important than pissing off their constituents. It won't take forever, but it won't happen overnight.

Shepard Smith's coverage is vastly superior to CNN's. He's talking to a student hiding in a closet on campus.

Every campus and other state facility typically is. CNN may have just been stating it as a matter of fact.

can't wait to see the facebook posts.

shooter kills 15 in GUN FREE ZONE. Liberal logic amirite?

serious guys, its time we have the conversation about guns in the country, however I realize its not going to happen. A shooter killed a school filled with kids and we brushed it off.

I'm sorry, but we are going to have to start developing technology that enables us to treat bearing arms as a privilege rather than a right... just like a license to drive.

this is getting out of hand... we need way more control and we need to have way more transparency when it comes to who owns guns and what guns they own.

Stronger gun laws would force gun manufacture to slow down, which means less guns overall, which means less guns stolen/lost, which means less guns obtained by criminals.

But we don't even have to go that far, just common sense background checks would be a deterrent and the NRA hates that shit so there's really no discussion that can be had with radical gun rights advocates, because they're perpetually one day away from having to fight the gubbermint.

Very few people actually want "gun bans", they want "gun control" which allows the mythological "eternally responsible gun owner" to obtain firearms while making it more difficult for disturbed individuals to just go to a gun show and buy one, for example.

Just heard this on NBC.

I feel that the media needs to stop feeding into these events. As heartbreaking as it is, the coverage in regards to motive needs to stop.

Literally giving recognition for these heinous crimes.

Bans on certain types of guns for most citizens, no "shall issue" laws, registries, mental health checks, no person to person sales with out background checks, limits on guns perchased in certain time periods, mandatory gun safety laws, gun buyback programs (with restrictions to prevent that from being used to by more guns), waiting periods, cool off periods, ability to revoke a persons right to own a gun, overturning of the ridiculous heller decision.

AKA what every other industrialized nation does.

If you're a "good gun owner" (which is a meaningless term btw) why would you oppose this?

What is there to compromise over? We're talking about life and death here, not budget alocations for different programs.

The fact is that our current laws are killing people. And we need to change that.

Pretty much this. I'm all in favor of curbing gun violence but I don't really understand how banning guns would be any more effective than Prohibition or the "War on Drugs". Both of which were a disaster.

Is there any scenario where USA will change it stance to gun? Will the gun culture ever change?

I mean if Sandy Hook couldn't change I am not sure what will really.
