The dots I see is the NRA holding politicians hostage with money. Even in the face of the majority of polling data suggesting that moderate gun legislation is needed in the country.

I can't believe "criminals won't follow gun laws" is a real argument for not changing laws, it is some of the dumbest shit I have ever heard in my life, yet people cling to this argument

The most important thing he did in this speech is call out its citizens to get political over it. With a presidential election year coming up, lots of Republican, and very much pro NRA, senators up for reelection there is a chance to at least start the process once again to do something. Make those who are willing to put people in danger and even kill others over gun control be political pariahs, start the conversation where we can actually start making gun control environment tenable rather then apathetic. It starts with voting the assholes out who keep toeing the NRA's stance on regulation and he is asking even gun enthusiast who in truth have a lot to lose if they don't seize hold of their hobby from these groups to stand against these types of candidates.

Who do you think is stopping tougher regulations on the buying and selling of guns that might stop things like this from happening so often? The NRA may not be giving guns to crazy people and telling them to go shoot up places, but they sure as hell aren't trying to make it any harder for it to happen. If anything they've been trying to make it even easier.

I feel the best way and most doable way to introduce any form gun control is to just make owning a handgun illegal unless you're in law enforcement, in which case the gun must be kept locked up in the station while off duty.
The only guns that should be available for sale would be shell based shotguns with an internal magazine and long rifles limited to .22 LR cartridge firing guns, with a small magazine size and a barrel length of at least 14 inches
Because you can't conceal carry those and they're the only firearms likely to be used for a reason beyond home defense (like sports shooting or hunting) it makes it very easy to know who is carrying a gun publicly and therefore become alert to a potential threat a lot sooner if it's in a firearm restricted zone.
Hand guns are the root of the issue here if you ask me, control those and gun related violence should hopefully go down. They may not be used in major shootings but they are definitely the most readily available and the most purchased. Also rifles and long guns should reduce child related gun accidents.

Obama's best strategy would be to get the gun owners to turn on themselves. He keeps pushing this line about sensible gun owners and he should really try and drive a wedge between the fanatics who want to arm teachers with uzis and the sensible majority who know this shit is out of control but also don't want to give up their guns but would support some common sense laws.
Nutcases going on shooting sprees because they have easy access to guns. Said nutcases have easy access to guns because gun lobbyists prevent Congress from passing new gun control laws and prevent the ATF from enforcing current ones.

Bernie isn't even as far left on gun control as Hillary is. If he's moved to the left since announcing he'd be about where she has been, which is where about Obama is right now.
He nailed it. And just hearing this, he knows he can't change anything alone. And if nothing changes, he will be back again, standing there, saying the exact same things. This just has to end somehow.

That's how amendments are proposed. They then have to be ratified by 3/4ths of the States.
