The Boss did look really cool when she was young, in the brief image we get of her.

320

I agree, Really liked how she looked in that picture.

I've loved all of her designs, to be honest. Very well done.

I would still kill to see a Boss WWII game, but yeah, I'm still afraid they'll just make the somehow already silly MGS story into something even dumber as we've seen with V.

Still want a Fox Engine Boss. :(

You can bet your ass that they would make her original codename to be "Snake" before they came to call her The Joy.

Cobra Snake, the green soldier who has yet to find an emotion to carry into battle, subordinate of The Joy, who she must kill for sad reasons and take over his codename

It would happen

Uhh did Paz have a twin or something?I just read something and i am not sure.I might just be too tired from reading stuff about the game after finishing it tonight

If you haven't already, go to the third floor of the white medical platform building and enter the door with the blue light.

I did all this stuff. Wasnt it just Fake Snake imagining things out of guilt or whatever?

I just thought i read something about Paz having a twin.

Who are Elisa/Ursula?

Is Portable Ops considered canon? Should I play portable ops??

According to Kojima himself, word of god of the series, Portable Ops' story is canon unless it directly contradicts the other games and creates conflict.

So pretty much every aspect of the plot, except some small details, is canon.

Should you play it? I'd say no. Gameplay is not exactly good. Just watch the cutscenes on Youtube. The plot is pretty good for the most part. Definitely better than Peace Walker and The Phantom Pain by a long shot.

I'm actually not worried about Kojima (Or anyone that takes charge) oversexualizing The Boss. It would be idiotic and unnecessary, sure, but what makes me truly afraid of her "background story" is that they might try to make her "legend" a fake now, just like Big Boss', Or they might try something idiotic like having her being the disciple of a WW1 legendary hero called "Magnus Boss" and she inherits the title after defeating him/her or something.

I meant he holds a deep affection for the Boss character over the others he has made which is why she has retroactively become a messianic figure and the most important character in the entire Metal Gear universe. I didn't mean to imply he would sexualize the character, in fact i'm certain for the Boss that would be the last thing Kojima would do. The issue is the Boss has no discernible flaws or weaknesses (except bullets to the stomach) and I honestly don't think expanding on her past would make the character more interesting. MGS3 was seeing what made Big Boss start on this path to becoming this evil dude in Metal Gear 1, but the Boss has the motivation of "I love my country" there is nothing to build or expand on.

I'll probably look into a Youtube Movie of it. Thanks bud.

The final mission of this game should've just dropped you into an emulated version of Metal Gear 1. Or better yet just have a splash screen saying "I dunno play Metal Gear 1, you can find a rom or something idk fuck off."

Idk what would've been the better ending. Playing as Solid and killing Venom, or playing as Venom and having to lose that fight. Both would've been appropriate in different ways.

Playing as Venom and losing would have been a really fantastic ending.

Kojima didn't write the story of Portable Ops, he himself can't just say "No, that game doesn't count" so the easiest way to deal with it is just pretend it never happened.
The simplest way to interpret what Kojima meant was that something did happen at San Hieronymo around the time Portable Ops happened, but the story PO told may not have been an accurate representation of those events, given that Miller wasn't in the game but in Peace Walker he refers to it as if he was there, that's all the indication you need, on top of Ground Zeroes basically saying it doesn't matter or isn't worth remembering.

Which is fine, no one actually cares about it anyway, it almost wrecked Gray Fox's character, the only thing PO gave us that was worth keeping is "Calling To The Night.

They should not have even attempted to tie this game into Metal Gear 1. Just tell a dope story about Big Boss, cut it off at Mission 31, and leave it at that. Chapter 2 is such a fucking mess.

Portable Ops also showed how Zero got his hands on the Legacy, which is an extremely important event in the series. The plot to this game is vastly better than the two next Big Boss games.

As someone who recently Youtubed all the cutscenes from MGS1 to Peace Walker before MGSV came out, including Portable Ops.
I think that is utter insane to think that, but to each their own.

While the twist was obvious, your "buddy" is a huge arsehole.

Cut all contact with said person. Go to his place and slap him around a bit too.

Your buddy sounds like a real asshole.

Your friend became a demon.

Did you remember to self hypnotize to forget this revelation?

It's what Ocelot would have wanted.

This is all true. Now that I know that obvious bit is it still worth going through chapter 2?

As much as I like The Boss as a character, I don't care for her voice and I blame Family Guy. When I hear her talk, I just keep thinking of that female reporter on that show. :(

We came upon the base
We spoke of WHOOOOOOO and when
Although I wasn't there
He said I was Venom Snake
Which came as a surprise
I spoke into his parasites
I thought you died alone, a long long time ago
Oh no, not me
I never lost control
You're face, to face
With the man who trolled the world

You know disappointed me the most about this game?
That we didn't get a full story on SANR. Shit is crucial to the MGS lore and kojima just glossed over it like it was nothing.

I'm feeling a little mean tonight so I'm going to tell you that she is also Pearl Krabs from Spongebob Squarepants

I don't even like the character and you just ruined the character for me.

I just don't think her voice really fits the type of character she is. I mean, the actress did fine, I guess, but I still would have preferred someone else.

In all seriousness the voice fits the character very well, she speaks in measured tones and sounds somewhat aloof. It's basically the perfect voice.

Kojima has a really strong aversion to showing events that have already been mentioned in some timeline scroll or whatever.

Like he skips over BB's time in the Patriots(or Cipher or whatever they called themselves), the creation and his reaction to LET, and his schism with Zero.(an extremely important period for all of them)

Doesn't go into any of BB's known exploits in the 80s, makes up something completely different that we never heard of.

I doubt he would have willingly made a MG1/2 remake, I remember him saying before he didn't want to it because he'd have to fix too many things and that someone else should do it.
