As long as he makes it as a DLC character down the line, I'll be satisfied.
Zangief's reveal killed any hope for a SFIII character in the base roster.

I really don't think there was meant to be a leak today. We just had Zangief yesterday. Laura was definitely leaked and I doubt we'll see a trailer until the 8th.

I know I sound crazy, but I was one of the people that called the Zangief release, so at least hear me out...
Look at what Ono did... He teased a bunch of characters in a way that was implicating an established character (Cody, Dudley, arguably Blanka). Then he did the same with Zangief... and it actually WAS Zangief; throwing a curveball when everyone thought they had figured out the formula. Then the Laura announcement... just look at those screen shots, Ono was CLEARLY going to tease Blanka. Moreover, he would have absolutely fooled most, if not all, of us. Once again showing his penchant for screwing with people.
Now he has us all pretty convinced that we aren't getting any Third Strike characters in SFV's base roster. However, keep in mind, they were intentionally vague when they were announcing who was going to be included in those eight roster spots.

There's only room for 1 newcomer & 1 veteran, & we know that other newcomer is Zen. The last veteran will be a Street Fighter II character based on what we know of the green section.

It'd be weird to have an 3s character in that section, and it's clear "classic" or "characters you'd expect" were code for sf2 characters.
Ono's in Mexico, it doesn't mean he's showing anything. From what I gather it's just and autograph session at a gaming convention.

I just gave up hope after Zangief, but I won't bitch up a storm about it. I'll just wait until the game adds a few 3S characters.
Well, I think there is a real chance that no Third Strike character will make the initial roster (though as I have already stated, I am far from convinced). That being said, it is crazy to think that they won't be in the roster soon after the release.

I don't even particularly care for what we got today.
And if the next returning character is another "safe" choice, the hype train will have come to a complete halt.
I got Karin so I won't complain. Alex was my dreams and wishes all rolled up into one awesome ball. I'll gladly pay for him down the line. But, for a NYCC reveal he felt so right. It's like the stars aligned with his character being from NYC and such.

She has one capoeira style kick and the rest of the leaked screens seem to focus on grappling.
Capcom should just keep it cool , stick with their original schedule. All we have are a handful of screenshots, Ono can still bring a trailer to Brazil with him. I feel awful for the guy though , he was probably hoping to tease all of us over the next week that Blanka would be coming back and then SURPRISE , it's Laura instead. We all pretty much knew anyway but let the guy have his fun !
So with that out of the way though, we still have Zen coming as the last new character and my guess is he'll be a similar playstyle to Bison or Vega but whereas those 2 are focused on power and speed (respectively) I think Zen will be focused on technique - lots of setups and combos and options with less speed and range than Vega and less power than Bison.
After that though, what's left for the roster ? We clearly have 1 more character coming from Street Fighter 2. And honestly after the way things have gone so far - I really have no idea who it could be. Who is even left now ? - well, we got Guile and some would say he can't be in because of Nash but I mean, Ken and Ryu exist right ? Then we have Blanka but Laura is clearly the Brazillian character although we've got multiple people from the US and Japan so ... Dahlsim after that but Zen is assumed to be his replacement, E.Honda - outside of Mike Ross does anyone actually like Honda that much ? plus Necalli has a similar playstyle especially now that his moves are charge based. Sagat and Balrog I don't think we will see because there's already enough zoner and rushdown characters and the other 2 Champions are there. T.Hawk is like 0% chance because we've got 2 hardcore traditional grapplers and 2 mixed grapplers in there already and no one likes T.Hawk that much
. So that leaves Fei Long and Dee Jay , the former would add another rushdown character to a cast that is already 25% rushdown and the latter would add an oddball zoner when we've got enough of those too.
So basically, I really don't know who could fill that last slot. I'm fairly confident it won't be T.Hawk or Sagat or Balrog. I kind of doubt it will be Fei Long , Dee Jay or E.Honda so that only really leaves Guile , Blanka and Dahlsim. The more I think about it the more Sense Guile makes , dude could fit nicely as a balanced medium character sharing ranks with Bison, Vega and assumably Zen. Blanka could fit that role too. Dahlsim could with some tweaks.
One thing I do know is I wouldn't honestly care if any of those 3 made it in.
My current theory on varied gamplay types makes me think we'll get character packs in sets of 4 - that way there can be a representative of what I feel are the core playstyles present in Street Fighter - Zoning (fireball based characters), Grappling(throw/hold based characters), Rushdown(quickly get in and do many hits) and the one that's probably debatable - Trap/Reaction(playstyle based on waiting for setups and generallly good reads and trickyness).
Someone mentiond the Street Fighter 3 characters being Dudley, Makoto , Ibuki and that actually kind of works - Ibuki is a little bit of everything but I'd say she's mostly rushdown with just a bit of the rest in there. Makoto is pure trap/bait material but like bison is focused on doing big damage with few attacks and Dudley is like a trap/rushdown mix. I actually think alex could still make it in because he's a midway point between Zangeif and R.Mika.
Future character packs could follow a similar standard - have an alpha pack that uses 4 different playstyles , a final fight pack , a street fighter 4 pack (down the road) and maybe throw a couple new characters in there eventually.
I'm still also assuming that we'll get a brand new boss with this game as well as Akuma being a hidden character.

The Alex/Urien rumor could still work out if Alex is the last vet, and Urien is a boss. Nash's reappearance has obvious Illuminati ties and as you said NYCC is a perfect place to reveal Alex. (Almost every character reveal at an event has been related to the place they were debuted.)

One thing I'm wondering, since Zen is purportedly from India, would they reveal two Indian characters back to back at two separate events? That doesn't really make a lot of sense IMO. If they're trying to appeal to the region they're showing the characters off at, it would be more prudent to reveal both at once if Dhalsim is the final vet character, but that doesn't seem likely either. And there's no events in India that I'm even aware of.
This makes Dhalsim less likely IMO, though I never thought he was in the first place. (But then again we got Zangief, so who knows...)
