Famitsu "leaks" Laura for Street Fighter V

The more I look at all the detail they poured into the stages for this game, the more I really hope that the FGC doesn't just use the training mode stage all the time again like they did for SFIV. These stages are labors of love and are really well done and it'd be shame to see all the matches at EVO or something just use the training room.

Still can't get over how great she looks. Absolutely stunning design.

This is the single reason why I don't watch tourney stuff that much. That boring as fuck training stage drives me nuts.

As long as no stage in the game drops a single frame, I think the majority of players won't mind using something other than training mode.

Why do you seem upset about other people hoping that she was a darker skin color.
If it's just a skin color, there should be no problem if she was darker. No?
I couldn't care less what skin colour she has, but other people seem to. They've even gone to the extent of photoshopping darker skin onto the character. I wonder what the reaction would be if Balrog was given lighter skin tone.

I don't think she looks promiscuous. Her breasts are a little on the large side and she is obviously attractive but she doesn't look blatantly sexed-up at all like many fighting game women out there. I also really like her hair, it's outrageous and different but gives her character. Looking forward to seeing what she plays like!

Dude, her shirt is tied up to show off her midriff and he has a comiclly large cleavage going on.

Right now Street Fighter V is 2/5 in having female fighters with not dumb pandering designs right now.

Took her into photoshop. This if how I actually wanted her to look.

Except Brazilian girls are not all crazy tanned, and that looks bad. Sorry.

It's a skin colour, get over it. Fucking hell.

It's just a photoshop. Balrog actually having a different skin color in a new iteration of SF would be a different case.

Brazilians could be dark.

Awesome, I dig the idea of having a new character that has a move set revolving around capoiera. I'm really looking forward to seeing her in action. Are people really upset by her skin tone? Guys it was a design choice, not every Brazilian has to have a dark complexion...

That's not even remotely the same thing.

I'm not arguing that she's "promiscuous". I'm arguing that's she has a lazy, pandering design.

Really? I don't see it. It's not any worse than Zangief, or bearded Ryu, or Chun-Li with the leggy dress. She's wearing pants and a top. It's typical gym stuff.

"Comically large clevage"

Are you implying that breasts just can't be that large naturally?

Look shit like R. Mika and Cammy have really ridiculous, oversexualized designs but I just don't see it with Laura. I think it's very possible to have a very tame design aesthetic while still revealing skin. Leona, Vanessa, Shermie in KOF does it and Ibuki, Juri, Rose and Karin does it as well.

7,61% of the population..

...it's still... as accurate as lighter-skinned brazilians...the population being a minority doesn't make it not accurate...???????

Please explain how making balrogs skin a little lighter isn't the same thing.

Laura is a new character that doesn't have any sort of relevance to the series' history in comparison to Boxer. Were he, Dee-Jay, Dudley or Elena to be whitewashed that would be a huge and very questionable design. In fact over the years, Boxer has been progressively 'darkened' in later installments and (to my knowledge) has never had an official color alternate that has him wirh light hair.

Laura being a completely new, likely unfinalized character design gives the developer free range to do as they please with it. Consider Rufus was a black, bald american guy before being finalized into a fat white american guy as a comparison.

LOL people are upset about her skin color?! Only neogaf son, i swear. Always got to find something to get riled up about.

I look forward to her gameplay vid

I don't like this design =/ Lazy and Pandering (especially the lazy term..I cannot stand people using that as a criticism of a design...like even the shittiest designs had a lot of work put into them).

FFS can we quit making everything people don't like into some social cause?

You can not like a design thats cool and more than welcome because not everyone is going to like the same things but I swear every fucking character thread (mostly for the female characters) is full of people making their opinions into more than just their opinion and more of some some tirade for equality (when in a sense their actually asking for less) or some shit..

You don't like thing. Can you leave it at that?

and no just because it is your opinion and this is a discussion board does not give you the right to act all high and mighty because you dislike a thing. And if it does, then you also have to accept that some people don't agree with you and keep it moving. Antagonizing them for that only shits up threads at this point. There is not going to be the dialog you hope to have here because you start from a position of the other side thinking you are a jerk.

gosh. I mean we haven;t even seen the trailer yet and the same shit is starting up all ready.

7,61% of the population.

Going with the skin color is not wrong nor it does need to be fixed in anyway.
I think it's the way you phrased it that was kinda off. Population percentage doesn't mean much. They are still part of the population.

Saying one portrayal is accurate implies the other is not, and kind of feeds into a slippery slope of false narrative regarding superiority/inferiority complexes. Which is always going to exist in a society of multiple skin tones.

Isn't Sean Afro-Brazilian??
Yep.

I think the photoshop looks great, and the default one looks great too, can we all be friends, guys?

Hopefully we can get something close to that photoshop as a color.

Color 10 should be green skin, orange hair. Yes I'm saying it again, it NEEDS to happen.

Like the overall design concept, the hair style, awaiting video to make a judgement on her gameplay... But I'm sorry, the seemingly braless top she has going on is ridiculous ...

Yet another design ruined by one small (large?) overly sexualized design decicion for next to no reason other than to further fuel the feeling among the non-gamer public (and my wife) that games are for 13-year-old boys. :P

That's silly. Having a white US-American character would be accurate like a black US-American character.

Wanting that a character should get darker because of some agenda or stereotypes, when the original isn't wrong in any way, is the silly part.

Would a non sexy character change these people's perception in a game they wouldn't or don't care about in the first place?
It's not like there aren't non pandering characters out there.

There are a lot of designs in fighting games that are incredibly lazily done, and designed to pander to a certain demographic or the artists taste. Chun-Li only has big thighs because Akiman loves thick women (god bless that man's heart)

And that's okay! These things, they can be criticized!

Yep.

The bolded is not true in any form of the definition of "accurate".

Hmm... perhaps you have a point. My initial impressions tells me her design is oversexualized but I tell you what, I'll reserve judgement on Laura until I see her trailer. I have a feeling it will be as male gazey as R. Mika's trailer but who knows, maybe she's not some eyecandy fighter like I expect her to be.
