That's silly. Having a white US-American character would be accurate like a black US-American character.
Wanting that a character should get darker because of some agenda or stereotypes, when the original isn't wrong in any way, is the silly part.
I never said anything in disagreement with this, actually. I was just commenting on how your original post reply, the one that starts with the population percentage, was disingenuous. You can't use an arbitrary metric like population size to determine if one representation is more accurate than another, especially when you are dealing with a country that is not homogeneous.
Again, it's moreso what the phrasing you used there can imply (or at least how others can use the implication to interpret it themselves) that's the issue. Otherwise yeah, Laura is a solid representation as-is.
And a leagues step-up from Blanka. I felt so bad for Brazilians all that time b/c of him, then felt good for 'em b/c of 2I Sean, then bad again b/c Sean sucked ass in 3S and Blanka became their default for SF rep again. Laura makes up for this
This isn't a concept character. The character is designed and finished. How long the character has been around after that is irrelevant. The constant campaigning for diversity(I'm not against diversity), whether based on gender or race has gotten very old.
This sounds a bit contradictory. Does that mean you're only okay for diversity if it involves elves and ogres and dragons, or are you not okay with it when it comes to the two metrics actually related to the real world? Or are you tired with feeling there's an agenda behind it?
Granted, I have my own feelings on diversity in gaming, and I don't think having a darker skin alt for Laura would fix the problem that seems to be the root of this (lack of a black or dark-skinned girl in the cast), but that doesn't make their concerns any less valid. I mean, Laura's the first Latina woman the series has ever seen, and it's taken....25+ years for that to happen? Ever since Elena came out the series hasn't seen fit to take another attempt at black woman.
OTOH there's more than enough white and Asian woman to choose from throughout the games. Mind you, I only look at it this way when the situation warrants it, but if we're asking an honest question regarding ethnic female representation in fighting games, it's extremely lopsided to the latter two entries than the former. A lot of people would like to see that more rounded out, especially since we're talking about a genre that traditionally is more contemporary in its time setting. The points raised have lots of merit.
If you're not even willing to acknowledge that, you're not in a position to tell people to stop bringing the topic up. (though I'll admit outright saying Laura needs to be darker, or have a dark-skinned alt, doesn't sit well with me. In fact the latter option would just create more problems then it'd solve).
