*If you are new to the Monogatari series, this is NOT a good launching point to start watching. The release list below is a good reference point to delve into the series. (Start with Bakemonogatari) all the previous series are available on Crunchyroll*

Synopsis:
Owarimonogatari ("End Story"), comprised of three volumes, is the twelfth part of the Monogatari series. The fifteenth, sixteenth, and seventeenth books overall:

For this animated series:

Araragi Koyomi is confronted by Ougi who discovered an anomaly in Naoetsu Private High School. They find themselves locked in a time-stopped classroom and have to find a way to get out by solving its mystery.

Main Characters:

Araragi, Koyomi-
- Koyomi Araragi is a third year high school student who survived a vampire attack during spring break and barely regained his human life in the time that followed as a boy with remnants of vampiric traits. He can see in the dark, his eyes turn red when he gets angry, and he heals incredibly fast. As a result, he questions his lifespan. He remains scared of morning sunlight despite the fact that it no longer has any negative effects on him.

Oshino, Ougi-
Ougi appears as a girl with short black hair, black pupils, and pale white skin and is a junior of Koyomi Araragi at Naoetsu Private High School, as Ougi refers to Koyomi as senpai. Ougi claims to be Meme Oshino's niece.

Oikura, Sodachi-
Araragi's childhood friend.

Senjougahara, Hitagi-
Araragi's Girlfriend (The best Girl)
At the end of Mayoi Snail, she admits that she loves Koyomi, and subsequently enters into a relationship with him.

After the events in Tsukihi Phoenix, she overcomes all of her trauma, and becomes a rather cheerful and normal girl. She starts calling Araragi with a cute nickname, chuckling at small things and sending e-mails full of emoticons, although her sharp tongue is still there, but toned down

Oshino, Shinobu-
She appears to be an eight year old girl, but she was originally a beautiful vampire who had lived for more than 500 years. Ever since "Tsubasa Cat" where she starts living in Araragi's shadow, she no longer needs to suck his blood on a regular basis in order to stay alive. She forms a physical connection with Araragi where they can feel each others emotions and senses. It is also later revealed that she can gain strength into an "evolved" form after sucking Araragi's blood more than the usual dosage.

and finally, because this has to be part of every anime thread from now on (BGBW original artwork):

(subnote) the thread will be updated with a bunch more information as it airs, since they have kept media to a minimum thus far.

Cool, you might want to spoiler tag the Owarimonogatari Arc names for obvious reasons, you actually didn't post the most spoilery one though, which is fine.

Will definitely follow this, Ougi is one of the more interesting characters. I want to see how she turns out if she gets more screentime, it did wonders for Kaiki.

PS: You also mention the arc names in that summary you posted.

I removed them from the synopsis altogether. Between Hummingbird, MAL and Wiki, there is not a single usable synopsis, so I had to wing it, lol.

Gonna be weird to watch one of these as it airs. I've binge-watched every previous season in this series.

I could never get into this series because it looked so pretentious. Every single character likes to philosophize about weird shit and I couldn't get into the art. The characters looks awesome, but all the other stuff is like from a strange dream or something.

Anyone else had similar problems but managed to overcome them?

Is this chronologically the end of the story like the name implies?

The arcs that we're actually going to see will happen just before Nadeko Medusa if I recall correctly, the other part of Owarimonogatari takes place after Hitagi End.

Hanamonogatari is (chronologically) the last arc IIRC.

Also, the writer doesn't really know how to quit so he is stiill making books after Owarimonogatari, it's super confusing.

I might be wrong though, I'm not an expert on this.

Well, strange conversations are one of the major points of Monogatari, if you don't like that I doubt you'll really get into the show.

Lol thanks

I think the books, like the anime, go out of chronological order. I know that originally the series was supposed to end... once... twice? Maybe more times? But now there's another new book coming out...

Haha I seriously have no idea. I'm just along for the ride. To me, it feels like every new series is generally a good ending point. They're often standalone enough, and the story is kinda haphazardly told, anyway, jumping all over time, that I wouldn't feel like I was missing out if the series had ended at literally any end-of-season point prior to this.

We'll see if Owari leaves a similar impression. Or Kizu!

Hm I haven't watched any of this since Bake. What happened to the og girls other then the ones listed, they dead or something?
If they are and you want to answer my question, just don't tell me how in case I ever pick this back up.

I need more Monogatari goodness, so I can't wait for Owari to air. Couple that with a Kizu announcement after it airs, and it's gonna be a great day.

Exactly how I feel about this show; it looks amazing though.
I watched the first season way back before I was fluent in Japanese though, maybe I'll re-watch it.

Not really lol, Cornbread just listed his waifu for some reason, aside from Ougi and Sodachi of course, those two are actually shown in the promotional material (and have arcs named after them)

Ougi is a side character who gets introduced in Monogatari: Second Season (I think) and Sodachi hasn't been introduced yet.

Edit: To clarify, Shinobu and Hitagi both get arcs in Owarimonogatari but we won't see them in these 13 episodes.

I feel like the last season left a lot on the table and I'm hoping some of those threads are picked up this season. Though I always end up finding the characters interesting after the fact, I really wish they would stop adding new characters for a while and just dig deeper into the universe they've created so far. Watching snake and monkey's stories last season made me feel like theirs so much material left unexplored.

Well, I'm pretty sure she is more or less new to the series, but it's been awhile...

The backgrounds do look different than your usual stuff but you get used to it quickly. But like you said, it's a series filled to the brink with dialogue and it's whether you can or can't deal with that should mainly inform your decision of continuing or not, (That and heaps of fan service.)

Massive spoilers for Mono S2
One character got a bit more dead. :p

I wish I hadn't spoiled myself on a certain thing from Owari but I hold out hope that it's not treated as some major twist in the story and they will get to it pretty quickly

This is going to be the first time I get to watch a Monogatari season while it's airing, so I'm pretty hyped. The scriptwriting's absolutely amazing, and works perfectly with Shaft's quirky and experimental artistic style, so I'm always happy to get more of it.

Subscribed since I'm looking forward to discussing the episodes with AnimeGAF.

Hi, welcome, konnichiwa.

Get ready for greatness!

Name of the OT was almost 99 probs but a toothbrush ain't one, but I decided on the current lame one instead;total mindblock..

You were also missing a couple extra 'ra's in Koyomi's last name.

RIP, dear Hachikuji
(Second Season spoilers)

Owari's really only twelve eps.? Thought it'd be longer with that many arcs.

I only got into the series this year, so I'm looking forward to watching this one weekly like everyone else this time.

Hello! I am just here to tell you that the twins ruined the series for me, and now I´ll disappear and ignore all the responses I´ll get about how wrong I am.

Nah, I am just kidding, I did stop watching it with the toothbrush scene, it was just not for me. Good thing the series is continuing for its fans. Enjoy!

Outside of some stuff right afterwards (mostly involving black Hanekawa), the series never gets nearly as lewd as it was during Nise. I'd recommend that you give it a try, the later seasons were really good with how they developed several characters (Kaiki and Nadeko's arcs were amazing in Second Season, and so was Hachikuji's).

I've got the Hyakumonogatari book + drama CD, which has Shinobu voiced by Konata's VA. It's really weird to listen to her given how different her VA was once she got a speaking role in Nise.

oh dear, not the loli
What? It has no loli. Only. eh. Art.

edit: Shinbou, not Shinobu. The actual person Shinbou.

We are already past the midpoint.

And I don't think that there is even that much Monogatari right now. With Owarimonogatari there are 74 Monogatari episodes - that is basically content of three seasons of a US-series.
We're already in the third season out of three, right? Looking at the least, there are not that many arcs missing after Owarimonogatari.
