Street Fighter V Roster Discussion |Thread 2| Deal with it & place your hope for DLC

DOA did it first and did it the best. They have 5 free characters then every once ina while they release some characters for free. Their free to play model has 1.2 million people buying dlc packs regularly with each dlc release. It is extremely successful.

And her I am waiting for a promotion on the full release. I really liked the previous DOA5 installments and haven't downloaded the Core Fighters pack yet.

I'll take one character every 2 months over us twirling our thumbs waiting for a character for what will be 5 months like what's happening with Smash 4.

If you can learn 16 characters and every individual matchup in 3 to 5 months it would take capcom to get a dlc pack together you shouldn't be playing street fighter. You should be playing world championship poker for millions or analyzing foreign intel and fighting for freedom.

*dons tinfoil hat*

maybe they wanna charge folks DLC moneys for popular characters

I don't think it's tinfoil hat. It's why hot Ryu is dlc and not Gi Ryu. Nobody wants to buy Gi ryu. Everybody and their mother (literally) will buy hot ryu.

Same approach with characters, I imagine. Not to say that the returning characters in the roster now aren't popular, but I'd say they ARE characters that people are less likely to spend fight money on.

Probably. That's why I found it very interesting to see what's going to happens with first year of downloadable contents.

It's quite exciting to see how far they would support Street Fighter V for competitive scenes.

Oh yeah?

Where's Juri?

Trust me, I probably am one of the people that wants Juri the most. She was my main in SSFIV.

But, in the initial roster they didn't get only popular characters and it makes sense for those to be DLC. Honestly, I would love to see Juri in the initial roster, but that's only happening if they don't announce Guile in NYCC or Dhalsim in another India event. Even if that happens, it's still unsure.

Even so, I am expecting Juri to be in the first DLC pack. Or at least, I expect her to be the first SFIV veteran.

When Ono? WHEN!?

Probably sooner than we think.

I just realized every single one of the top 5 characters is on the starting line-up....except for Akuma. So Akuma as first DLC character is basically assured I think now.

I wouldn't be surprised if he's a secret boss character. Unlockable day 1 with Fight Money.

Yet he's not in the game, I thought polls matter?

It does matter, Capcom Japan has even mentioned it on their blog. But they've also said that the poll isn't the end all be all for character inclusion or exclusion. They've said another factor is simply their staff having a good idea of how to bring a character back. That's how Birdie made it in. He's near the bottom in terms of popularity.

Q is the most boring character ever to me. You would have to try to design a more boring character.

:(

Some people think Sakura being 23 in a shcool girl outfit is endearing, some people like something some don't like something.

Those character polls mean so little. I really think people are constantly overstating their role in deciding the roster. Karin is maybe the one exception, but she was always gonna come soon as she hadn't been in one since sfa3, so it's more coincidence than cause and effect

Qs design i don't think is why he's so popular it's the mystery about who he is.

He's got a lot of interesting details that add a lot to his character (like how he sometimes stomps a KO'd opponent or sheds a tear over them). I think we get the gist is that he's being controlled by someone/something as he has a lot of anguish over his actions and probably any additional detail given about his origins would just take away from him.

Some people like Mikas design some people like Qs

Opinions amirite
I love both personally

Everyone knows he's skullomania anyways.

Capcom has straight up said that the polls play a role in roster selection, so it's not people overstating anything. It's people quoting Capcom.

Why do you think they even administered the poll at all? Of course they're using it to make roster decisions. Will they follow the polls 100%? Of course not. But, they're still using the data.

Retsu, Joe, Mike, Lee, and Geki have been out longer than Karin. WHERE DEY AT?

You have good taste, Q and SFV version of Mika are awesome.

Q placing higher than 1/2 the world warriors despite only ever being in 3s...

I would be so happy if Q was the hidden boss in V instead of Akuma. They should also copy and paste Q's groans as they're already perfect.

Yup. It's why I was hopeful for Mika's inclusion and fearful of Ingrid's.

I think Q has a good chance of being secret boss. Like not final boss , but like halfway through if you meet certain requirements. That would be pretty cool.

Wasnt Dan like this the first time he debuted in Alpha 1?

Sodom would fit into sfv pretty well. From a design stand point he'd be a shoe in both visually and gameplay wise. Plus no FF characters yet.

Like Onis but even more ridiculous. Beat every match within 20 seconds with perfects and 10 critical art finishes, 15 first attacks, 30 crush counters, and beat shin bison with a critical art finish.

Interesting comment I encountered on Gamespot, a mainstream, non-FGC site:

For those thinking that including the World Warriors in every single game is good for "casual, widespread appeal"...the opposite could be also true.

Obviously, to us, SF5 and SF4 are like night and day. But, to the mainstream audience...?

If every game's roster looks too dang similar, you'll start to get diminishing returns in terms of casual appeal.

Capcom are probably scared of a repeat of SF3, more than a small percentage of people not getting the game cause they think it's stale. But I think the solution is a balance of the world warriors and other characters.

Those type of comments pop up for a lot of different titles that have familiar character designs/gameplay. Battlefield, COD, Mario Kart, Halo, etc. get comments like that when new games debut as well, but they still do very well with the more casual market.

There are still people who think this looks exactly like sfiv and I can live with them not buying the game

And the last sentence is not true because of SF3

So companies should find a middle ground for this

6 WW
6 returning from previous and not in sfiv
4 new ones would have been great

But it's 8,4,4 right?

I mean look at it this way.

Mika Karin birdie are all "new" to someone lol
