What's the difference between catsfc and catsfc plus? Also curious, anyone tried the virtual boy core on this yet?
I'm getting really frustrated. This started great for me, but now no games will save, and most games don't load saved games. The files are where they should be. When I start it up the bottom screen says "Retroarch [INFO] :: SRAM will not be saved" and when I start a game it says "Retroarch [INFO] :: skipping SRAM load" I can't find anything that'd indicate that I've turned off SRAM loading. For some reason all of my folders are getting flagged as Read Only, and even when I turn it off, it gets set again (or it tells me that the password is invalid when I turn it off). I'm not even able to change the directory where savefiles go without that being switched back to the default.
I've deleted everything related to homebrew off my card and restarted but I'm having no luck. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Edit: I re-re-reinstalled everything and copied my sram files to both the roms directory and the retroarch/cores/savefiles directory and now they load...but they only save if I back into the menu and hit Quit Retroarch. I didn't have to do that before. Retroarch settings like hot key bindings still don't save. God this is irritating; it all started when I installed the 10/1 nightly.
What? PS3 most definitely runs PS1 discs man...
Just got this working, really nice
Is there a way to launch Homebrew channel without going through YouTube/weird DNS settings? It's more so about the fact having custom DNS seems to stop the store working.
Cheers
Yep. themehax. You just hold L when booting the home menu.
Thanks!
Is there anyway to load it once a 3DS is on, or does it always require turning off and booting with L held down? (still much better than YT).
Yep. Press the power button once and you get the menu screen that gives you the option to shut down or press home to return to the home menu. Press the home button, then hold L.
Using that method you can boot into the HBL from literally any 3DS game or menu.
I know he DNS/YouTube method leaves no trace on your system. Does this themehax method make permanent changes to the system?
The best GBA emulation is gpsp?
Got it workingHad to go into theme manager, switch theme, and then switch back to default and run themehax again. Upon opening theme manager it said it was setting something up on the SD card - So anyone who buys a new 3DS maybe has to go into theme manager first.
Yep, its improved vastly. Make sure you have a BIOS set correctly.
SRAM always flushes on exit in Retroarch. Always been like that.
There is SRAM auto save but that uses a second thread and I'm not sure that's working already. Config also saves on exit. That's always been like that too
BTW, no need to get pissed, RA 3ds is an alpha, it was mostly abandoned till we decided to have nightlies two days ago.
I'm guessing there is no way to get sleep mode/suspend working with homebrew? Closing the 3DS and opening it just leaves me with a black screen and a power off is needed.
They did both. From dual core 268 MHz to quad core 804 MHz. Memory also got a big boost (6 MB to 10 MB on chip, 128 MB to 256 MB RAM, 1 GB to 4 GB flash). The GPU and slave CPU (ARM9) were left unchanged. This might be off topic, but with the strides that emulation on the 3DS has had, is it known exactly what changes Nintendo made to the hardware? Is it more cores or did they bump up the mhz?

Awww shiiiiiiiiit.... Just started a new game of DKC2. Newest nightly. CatSFC. Just got to here:
So far, not a single frame drop. No lag on controls (unlike on my Xperia android phone), and it looks fantastic on my new XL.
It may not seem like much, but this is significant to me - DKC2 is my favourite game of all time, ever since I first got it by chance as a birthday present when it was released back in 1995. And ever since that point, I've always wanted a decent handheld version. But until now, that's been an impossible task. The GBA port was shit. PSP emulation for SNES was poor as hell. Homebrew handhelds always had poor controls or other issues. Android devices had poor controls, lag and other issues.
This, however, is perfect. I've waited literally twenty years for this.
Is it possible to add these files via wifi data transfer? My MacBook doesn't have SD
... oh boy! I'll try it out asap assuming it works on the latest fwIt is, I did it earlierAlbeit on Windows.
Wait is this available in the nightlies?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p71phKljSAE

But this doesn't really work on an OG 3DS, correct?
This may just push me over the edge and pick up a n3DS, even though I adore my OG.
It seem everytime I close my n3DS when homebrew is running, the screen remains black when I reopen it.
Is there a way for the screen to turn back on?
That's really interesting because I could swear I've never had to exit Retroarch to get SRAM to save between 9/24 and 10/1. And Retroarch definitely would load saved config files. Now I save them, I see the name of the .cfg file change to reflect the date, but the next time I load up the app it's back to retroarch.cfg and it's not loading any custom configuration.
I'm only frustrated because I can't figure it out. I feel dumb.I know these are not 'stable' releases. Just excited is all.

Is there any way to access the homebrew channel from YouTube without an internet connection? I ask because I'm on the train to work and want to keep playing Super Metroid haha.

Themehax.
You install it, then just hold L whilst booting to the home menu.
Thanks. In order to do that I have to get into HBC first, right? No way to install offline?
Yeah you need to go into HBC. Also make sure if your 3DS is new you visit the theme manager section on the OS. It seems to create a folder/files on your sdcard which need to be there for themehax.
Thanks for the heads up. I've already downloaded a bunch of themes in the past, so I think I should be set. I'll give it a try on my work WiFi while I'm at lunch.
Installed themehax fine. Went into theme manager (assuming this is the "Change Theme" option in the settings menu) to see if it would do anything, nothing happened. Rebooted the system holding L, nothing happens. Is there another step?
Sorry I might have confused you. After installing themehax do not visit the theme menu or change the theme. This uninstalls themehax. The only downside to themehax is you can't use custom themes, and this is why.
Just install it again and do nothing else and it should be working![]()
