Ancient Aliens: New Nin. 3DS now offers the best SNES emulation on any handheld

GBA emulation is near perfection on N3DS (FF 6 Adv still have lots of framedrops).

I wish someone could make an Amstrad CPC emulator for the 3DS... (there's a C64 emulator on GBATemp but the author didn't updated it for weeks).

EDIT :
Can't manage to make any screenshot with RetroArch, it always fail. :(

Because as far as I understand it the homemenu hax doesn't work on firmware 10.1, or am I wrong here?

It works for me (10.1 EUR New 3DS). Be sure to read the instructions (1: install ThemeHax via TubeHax or IronHax, 2: Hold L while booting your console, 3 : profit).

The only NES game I can't play with RetroArch 3DS is Mario Adventure (an awesome SMB 3 Romhack). I only have sound. I guess this is due to the nature of the hack, witch is quite extensive.

(N3DS here) ok so I tried the latest nightlies as .cia (need to be fw 9.2 or under) this time to see if there was any speed improvement over .3dsx, well not that I can tell really :
Sonic3 is still full speed.

Yoshi's Island on snes is 45-60 fps (more like around 50-55 most of the time)
Star fox is like 25-30
"normal" games are full speed though. (Chrono Trigger/Super Metroid)

Super Puzzle Fighter 2X on cps2 was fullspeed too^^ (wanna try progear now :D)

Parasite Eve on PCSX ReARMed : 45-50fps (managed to load a 2 year old RetroArch android savestate (7hours in), nice!)

by the way Circle Pad Pro is definitely working as left-right on Jugement Silverword on Wonderswan was mapped on RZ - LZ by befault. (and the R-stick works when mapping)
(you can use analog circle and R-thumb as 2nd Dpad : settings>input>analog to digital (up and down are reversed and need to be re-bound (+-1(left analog) and +-3 (C Stick) in input user binds))
something is still wonky with Left analog 100% down, as it goes up :\

Rich : can you help me with rotation ?
I tried to set it to 90 or 270 and get a mirror effect.. (180 is fine though, but not really what I'm looking for here lol)

Is there no 3dsx/smdh of PCSX rearmed?

Is there no 3dsx/smdh of PCSX rearmed?

no because dynamic recompilation freezes with 3dsx for now.

on the Arcade front : 50Mb+ uncompressed roms won't be able to be loaded in ram until someone figures out how to access more than 64Mb of ram (Smash Bros does this on o3ds it seems)

Audioboxer> probably will be 9.4+, but if it's not, keep it on 9.2 or under to get kernel access and .cia packages install (PSX Rearmed)

I think so too as it's the Pokemon Sapphire bundle which came out this year.

Someone said 9.7.0-24E to me. Ah well!

My DKC1 on my N3dsxl doesn't run super fast or super smooth on level 1. Are there settings you need to adjust on these emulators or something?

Oo I'd be super interested in playing that, I remember reading about it a while ago. Perhaps future nightlies will help fix such problems?

Can you use sleep mode when playing a game through the region-free hack (for example a USA game on a Japanese N3DS)? I tried to use sleep mode while playing an emulator, and it just froze up the console.

Save states don't seem to work well either, so this is not yet as convenient as I had hoped.

The 9/30 nightly adds support for the zL and zR buttons! I bound them to fast forward for the NES emulator and it works. Not yet for CatSFC, but it's super cool to see the little things get added day by day.
This work for GBA games maybe? I'd love to be able to play the GBA Fire Emblems without having to sit through fight animations...

You have to hit the home button before closing the 3DS while using an emulator to avoid locking the system up. Some sort of weird bug. As far as I can tell, it drains your battery as if the system was open anyway. Not sure about how it works with Region Free though

Is there any cue that the home button has been pressed..? I've tried this and when I press it nothing happens. I don't wanna screw up a game I'm playing tho and test it for myself.

Thanks for the tip! I don't mind if it drains the battery, I can just hook it up to the charger.

There's no cue. I usually just press it a bunch of times out of paranoia

the home button works as expected only on 9.2< systems using home package apps (.cia) homebrew via homebrew menu works differently.

CatSFC+ is supposed to be used on New3DS only from what I read. (better audio)

Solid SOAP> should work, especially on n3ds. (FastForward)

Genesis Plus GX should be use for genesis/sms/gg.picodrive for sega cd/32X/virtua racing, not sure if that works well yet with 3dsx. (supposed to work with .cia only for now)

Gpsp for GBA. (might wanna try mgba but gpsp should run faster)

Gambatte ran GBC well on new3DS, though for GB/GBC/GBA I prefer using VC rom injection. (9.2< required)

Haven't tried NES yet, but QuickNes, probably.

MednafenPCE for PC Engine and MednafenWSC for Wonderswan.

EDIT : 3dsx for picodrive and pcsx rearmed are available now :) (picodrive should be faster now too)
if you're on 9.3+, this still doesn't have dynarec, so pcsx will be slow for you even on n3ds.

Mother 3 (version 1.2) works fine for me.

What are people using for the best resolution/aspect ratio for GBA? It seems like if I change them in one emulator it does it for all of them. Is that intentional?

Also, sorry for the noob question, but is there a way to go back to the roms list without quitting the emulator completely with L,R,Start,Select?

Prrssss thhee screeen

New 3DS arrived, so it is okay to load up the newest FW and still do this? Just checking. It's on 9.7 just now so no >9.2 options available.

yeah, no reason to stay on 9.7.

from Smea's twitter : for the next version of his haxs his working on screenshot, unlock 16 more Mb on o3ds, and 64 on new3ds, language forcing (like playing US Zelda MM3D cart on jp 3DS), more unsuported games support (AC Home designer for example), running 3DS games in New3DS mode. (you can do it now on 9.2, snake eater runs MUCH better)

I think you mean <9.2 but yes, no reason to stay on 9.7

Yup, oops! I have updated as well. The New 3DS is really well built. I had a 3DSXL in the past and sold it, and this is far more robust and a better size for me. When the screens go any bigger you really need a resolution to match. My OLED Vita destroyed my old 3DSXL, but on screens this size it's a better PPI for the low res of the 3DS.

I agree, that was my feeling as well. I really wanted the smaller screen as the PPI on the XL looks really bad to me.

Now if only I could find some plain white faceplates... these AC ones are terrible :(

I have to say, everything I've tried so far that's worked has been insanely great. This definitely beats out the PSP Go as my handheld emulation platform now. Also, being able to add/make changes to my card wirelessly is insane. Definitely don't regret this purchase.

-edit- I do wish it would fail more gracefully though -_- Having to power it down and back again when it can't load a rom is a pain.

Can't you turn off the animations?

I don't know if it works for GBA yet. Haven't tried that system. I don't know if it's a horsepower thing or if we're just waiting for a switch to be flipped.

I've been too hooked on Pokemon Sapphire since finishing work I've not got around to even trying the things in this topic lol. Had to call Nintendo to unlink my old 3DS from my ID. Talk about a shitty online implementation. Luckily the 5 minute call was painless and I was told a few days of waiting, but an hour later and it was done.

I can't seem to get my Mother 3 rom working. Retroarch say: does not have enough samples for monitor refresh rate estimation. Requires to run for at least 4096 frames. Any tips?

Final Fantasy VII on a nintendo handheld, this is like...

Well this is irritating... I installed 10/1 last night and played through Sabin's scenario of FF6... I come back to my game today and none of my progress saved. It didn't lose my saves, I just can't overwrite my old save. After many test saves and reboots, it appears my SRAM files are in a read-only state or something. Anyone else have this issue?

I'm amazed SNES emulation works so well on the 3DS. When I was looking into it a month or so ago it seemed like it was barely playable. Gonna try it out this weekend.

Though I'm gonna be stuck with Tubehax for now, I'm too attached to my Mega Man custom theme to use themehax. Hopefully there'll be another offline entry point in the future

I mean, there is. It's called Cubic Ninja.

I don't think it's too expensive now, and IMO, it's still the simplest "no compromise" way to install Homebrew. Also has the lowest chance of being blocked in a future update.
