Transformers: Devastation |OT| Rising in Disguise

Beast Wars has reeeeally aged poorly

Fah. Well hopefully the SGSSAA bits from Revengeance/Korra work with this.

I don't have access to the game or a higher-than-1080p screen right now but both the devs and some people on the Steam forums are reporting the opposite. Then again, there might be some glitch because some other posters apparently can't go beyond 1080p.

Yeah, my max is 1080p. On other games I can go higher, it might just be the way this game is made that detects the native resolution and won't let you push it further, I suppose?

So it's the MGR director that directed this one? Who made Korra?

Yes, Saito did not work on Korra though. Eiro Shirahama worked on Korra I believe. Plus I'm pretty sure the budget of that game was much less, hence the $15 dollar price tag.

It does in a lot of ways share similarities to Korra such as the linear levels and random driving/riding on beast sections, but overall I think Transformers Devastation has more polish and the combat is a lot more rewarding feeling.

Someone light the Durante signal, we need his skills to help our PC brethern experience the Platinum trademark action in 1440p+!

G1 design is the best design IMO and I pray that future Transformers game will use G1 design.
I agree. The tagline is 'Robots in disguise' for a reason. Not much disguise using Cybertronian designs. That Animated show looks about the fucking worst.

I forgot this was also going to be physical. Just ordered from Best Buy but it doesn't look like it's available in any stores around me so I guess i'll play it on Friday...

I keep on praying for a G1 Transformers fighter, somebody has to do that someday...

Something like Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat, massive combos, tag teams, finishing moves, the lot.

Beast Wars has reeeeally aged poorly

and this is coming from someone who will still watch random G1 episodes on occasion

I re-watched Beast Wars a couple years ago for the first time since the 90s. Season 1 I'll totally agree with you, it's not very good.

Season 2 and 3 though, those are fantastic.

Thing the about prime for me was arcee. She annoyed me to no end and the cast was so small that I got bored with them. And miko was worst than Daniel. She ranks up there with the armada kids for me as worst humans ever.

Is there no lock on at all? Seems like when you aim it defaults to the nearest enemy, but there's no dedicated lock on mechanic?

sneaked out off work in my lunch time to play a bit, this game is the GOAT!

tried on the highest difficulty but i got quickly reminded how much i suck with this games lol (restarted to normal)

Have you actually watched it? It's the best non-CGI Transformers cartoon, giant chins and all.

I'm old so I'm very partial to G1 aesthetically, but animated was actually really great. My wife and I were super bummed when it's run ended. :(

I'd love to see G1 (IDW) designs with the animated series' writers.

It's cool that we're getting an adult-ish version of Combiner Wars on Machinima, but man, I would kill for a Last Stand of the Wreckers / More than Meets the Eye series

Wow, I'm really enjoying this. Started in Commander, difficulty feels just right. If I mess up a few times, I usually die, but it's not too hard to manage crowds and boss patterns so far. Made it through I think half of chapter 1 so far. Taking my time, grabbing the collectibles and optional stuff.

I think one thing which sets this game apart from many other Platinum games is that it is a pure action brawler. The way encounters are designed are simpler, but still extremely fun. It's hard to explain exactly, but I would say character action games have added a lot of layers over the years, and this feels more like Final Fight or Streets of Rage. The characters control differently enough, have their own movesets, but it just feels fun to fight encounter after encounter because the brawling is satisfying. It also helps that it's awesome celshaded G1 style Transformers.

For those who have it, it is a typical Platinum game with Japanese options? I have a friend who wants to pick it up.

No. Sorry, this is totally a western-centric product. I don't think there are any Japanese options at all. :(

It somehow took me 2-3 hours to complete Chapter 1. I even missed a mission because fuck. I'm going to assume all the 4-5 hour playtimes are from people on normal. I've kind of gotten my ass kicked a lot on Hard. Maybe I'll be on the way up now that I can switch weapons since the first weapons did piddly damage. Second time fighting
Devastator
was much easier since I could actually do decent damage. There's a lot of nonsense going on in the weapon crafting too. At least it seems easy enough to handle and isn't too insane.

The music is also great and I got too hype at
Devastator and his drills. He fucking does the gauntlet move of hitting them together to make sparks. It's great.

I also somehow avoided the knowledge of chapters being kind of super open ended? It's typical character action open ended so you can revisit areas for secret missions, but way more of that. I didn't suspect that all.

Cool from the gameplay videos, it seems to be way above Korra indeed.

Nah, just commenting on how it looks. I'll give it a go if it's on Netflix.
Animated is a very goofy and lighthearted series, and after a while you get used to the animation because it fits the writing style. There are also a ton of references to earlier Transformers series, especially G1. One could call Animated a love letter to Transformers as a whole.

prowl sacrificing himself really got me bummed. Loved his character arc

I'm surprised how good the pre-order skins look. I would actually be interested in a costume pack for the game if they have good stuff lined up.

Do they have the same grunts and voice clips as the base character? Download size seemed surprisingly big from people posting PSN screenshots.

Oh come on. BW had local commercial grade cgi even when it was new. It's never, ever looked good.

Let's not even get started on the mech design.

my brother had the optimal optimus toy as a kid and he loved it so, so much

i literally can't even

I haven't tested it all out yet, but when you select them on the character select screen, they have their own unique one-liners, so there is probably more unique voice clips. I only just selected Sideswipe's Red Alert skin before I quit.

fffffff what! I figured they were just skins! I would have pre ordered if i knew that. <_<;

Huh, that's really cool. I'd definitely be up for packs of character+weapon+a couple of challenges. They certainly have plenty to choose from.
