Is it common to make big multi-topping sandwiches in the US?

...butter and cheese?

Apparently we thought we won WW2, but if Europe is eating butter and cheese toast and thinking that's high living, then obviously Hitler won.

Then again they eat their butter cheese bread and think they're way way better than us for it, so screw them. Abandon them to their fates, and lets enjoy a lunchtime Freedom McMuffin.

In the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo books the characters will constantly stop and eat like 4 sandwiches. I just thought it was some weird Euro shit to hog out on sandwiches whenevs.

Sandwich thread? Sandwich thread.

I'm gonna send BritGAF a whole crate of Westside Monte Cristo sandwiches from The Melt in Cleveland.

Honey ham, smoked turkey, Swiss and American cheese sandwiched between two deep-fried slices of bread, sprinkled with powdered sugar. You'll thank me once the indigestion passes.

A peanut butter sandwich. Yeah.
A jam sandwich. Sounds good.

A peanut butter and jam sandwich. You dirty bastard.... I'm gagging here...

A sandwich place nearby makes these deep fried with confectioner's sugar on top

In movies and shows they always do these huge Subway-style sandwiches with tons of toppings. Never just a simple butter and cheese-type sandwich.

Aren't those basically grilled cheese sandwhiches? I thought Americans loved those, they even made a music video for them in The Looney Tunes Show.

They have to have 8 subpar sandwiches a day to make up for not having one good sandwich.

What a waste of bread.

If sandwiches look like that in Europe, then yeah I'm never visiting that hellhole.

This is a Roast Beef sandwich in NYC(Katz Deli). This can be a meal for 2(or 1 if you're feeling gluttonous).

Ooooh!

I had a Monte Cristo style Cuban the other day and it was surprisingly decent:

Today's "Why do Americans do that!" thread backfired, and they are trying to revert to old comfortable stereotypes when feeling insecure.

That's what this thread was trying to be? Oh man, they picked the wrong fight if the best sandwich they have to offer is fucking cheese and butter.

It's a better tasting version of mayonnaise, why anyone would accept something worse like that over salad cream is crazy!

(Time to throw my credibility away)

The better tasting version of mayo is Miracle Whip, salad cream is oily vinegary toss.

After that, introduce them to the Godfather from the same restaurant.

Sandwiches are by default a lunch food in the US, and are made big enough to be a meal in and of themselves. A sandwich as a side dish alongside a bowl of cereal here is not something i've ever heard of here. The only way I can imagine that happening is if a college kid were just throwing together whatever food they happened to have on-hand. It just feels like throwing together two ultra-random food items.

People will have a grilled cheese sandwich with a bowl of soup or chili, but typically a sandwich is the main course.

It is more typical that someone will just throw together a meat/cheese/bread sandwich at home if they're lazy, but the veggies make the sandwich in my opinion.

Because you are so cheese ignorant it is embarasssing.

Top Tip America, there is more than one type of Swiss cheese.

Protip, we know. Also, half the shit I saw label "American, BBQ, Texas BBQ, Mexican" in Europe was laughable. It goes both ways. I've never been more disappointed in a plate of Nachos in my life.

Most stores have a wide variety of cheeses and their own cheese sections. Getting certain specialty cheeses can bet a bit harder depending on location, but cheese knowledge is a bit larger than I think you realize.

I don't know about anyone else, but my area certainly doesn't lack for choices on cheeses:

All the grocery stores in my area look like that too.

I guess it has been a while since we last had a cheese in America thread, where no one seems to believe us anyway.

To me, a great sandwich has the following:

-2 slices of good bread. Example: Ciabotta, Rye, French...
-1/4 lb of meat, preferably sliced.
-2 types of cheese.
-Tomato slice
-Pickles
-Spinach
-Onions (maybe)
-Mustard
-Maybe another condiment if I'm adventurous
