Is it common to make big multi-topping sandwiches in the US?

Well, to be clear, those are my breakfast and lunch but I still have dinner and other snacks.

That and I'm trying to lose weight so normally I'd eat like FOUR slices of bread for lunch with a condiment.

Having every meal being a calorie bomb seems like a bad idea.

Nah, but variety is the spice of life.

Hell, pretty much every day I have two meals with one condiment between two slices of bread.

Haven't ever heard it called a cheese and butter sandwich, but cheese sandwiches are a staple of every childhood in The UK.

A bit of Branstons Pickle and some Ham and your entering God Tier

Hardly a poverty food either.

I said FULL meal. Hey didn't you and i have this exact discussion a couple of pages ago?

Why can't breakfast be a "full" meal? In many circles, people eat large, protein-rich breakfasts in order to stave off hunger for most of the day (and probably other benefits). Again, just because you don't do it, doesn't mean it's wrong.

You can make it a full meal, and that certainly isn't wrong, but neither is not making it a full meal. I personally prefer a bowl of muesli and milk that takes roughly ten seconds to prepare so I can wake up shortly before I need to get to uni.

Totally fine. It just seemed like the poster I quoted was implying that you COULDN'T make it a full meal.

Ryebread and cheese, at it's best, is the fucking pinnacle of sandwich making. It has absolutely everything that it needs and nothing else.

I heartily disagree. It really isn't. How you can look at those amazing sandwich photos from around the world and think this is...I don't even know.

Those "sad sandwiches" you're seeing here with butter and just a slice of meat or cheese are a common thing in France but we call them "tartines".

And they are the best simple food ever. Good bread, good butter and good cheese make it so much better.

Seriously, depending on what ingredients you use, in no way while stuggling you could afford those tasty motherfuckers.

Dennis and Lesden : we're bros.

Breakfast is a full meal, but a couple of sandwiches (our kind) aren't. You eat something with them. The poster was comparing pictures of full meal sandwiches with parts of a breakfast.

Its also common in Germany too. Its delicious, easy to make. Yeah it doesnt look as fancy as a murican sammich, but itxs a cultural thing. American food is style over substance.

American sandwiches:

Asian sandwiches:

European sandwiches:

Get your shit together, Europe. (except for you, Italy and Greece. You're good.)
Come on, the european sandwiches are a quick breakfast you put together in two minutes in the morning as quick snack/breakfast

Are you telling me all those food network photographed sandwiches are made by people in the morning? Yeah right. Eating out in europe and you can get a decent sandwich thats filled up as well.

Unfortunately, in the poor USA, they are only allowed to eat one type of sandwich. I cry everytime when i go out here in our country of Europe and we have all kind of types of sandwiches available.

We also have this around here though, a sandwich that you eat with fork and knife.

lol at that butter and cheese sandwich hate on page one.

Maybe you'd understand it if your stupid american cheese wasn't just disgusting goop.

Hey thats not fair you are supposed to post your own butter and cheese creation vs. Food network sandwich still images under a studio light.

Nobody actually likes American cheese.

Thankfully, American cheese isn't literally the only cheese in the entire country.

Even with all the delicious cheeses we can get here, having a sandwich only made from butter and cheese sounds a bit gloomy.
I'd fucking add some crudités into the mix, at least.

It looks like driving through Nebraska.
As somebody that grew up in/has driven through Nebraska many times, this fucking slayed me. Dead on simile.

There's nothing inherently wrong with bread and cheese, it's just trying to call it a sandwich that seems off.

Also, and I may just be reading too much into this, but what's the deal with all these posters making note about using "quality ingredients" for their bread & cheese? Is it some back-handed insinuation that Americans do not use or do not have access to quality ingredients for their food, or is it just a plain statement about the actual quality of the food (mega-Corp factory processed anything vs deli/bakery made, etc.)?

Ovengold Turkey, Everroast Chicken, Clearfield American, Wisconsin sharp cheddar, bacon, romaine, red onions and mayonnaise on a roll.

Man I'm hungry.

Yes, because all Americans eat Kraft Singles for cheese in the Continental USA.

Christ, this is getting real fucking old.

I feel like hitting someone with a block of Land O Lakes White American right now.

lol, your 'real cheese' is a joke compared to any european cheese too.

source: every european who has been to USA.

Face it - your sandwiches are just overcompensating for your lame cheese.
