July 12: Inhumans

Fuck yeah! Honestly didn't think it would get a sequel despite it doing pretty solid numbers. Too bad for the stuff getting pushed back though.

Wicked. I'll admit I fully expected for this to never happen, considering the film wasn't a smash hit (and Marvel simply has so many films in the pipeline right now).

Hopefully they explore both the Lang & Pym sides of the story - they obviously left the identity of the original Wasp up in the air for sequel purposes. Maybe this film is about rescuing her from the subatomic level?

Also, it is indeed a bummer that this has pushed Captain Marvel and Black Panther so far back. Hopefully they can fill the void by getting those characters in other films, sooner.

Black Panther is push up, from the summer (that this sequel is going to be now) to Feb of that year.

I live in a world where an Ant-Man movie not only came out, it was a great movie, AND it's getting a sequel co-starring The Wasp.

... Some days I wish i could travel back in time right before Iron Man came out and tell myself the future.

I would probably be laughed out of the room by younger self right around the time I got to "oh yeah, Rocket Raccoon and Groot will be huge! And they'll hit theaters before Wonder Woman or The Flash ever will!"

Awesome. Sucks about Captain Marvel, but I fully expect them to put her in another film long before her own movie debuts.

I'm a little worried about BP now.

Februray?

February is the month studios release films they know won't do very well.

I hope this movie sets a new standard for the month like Winter Solider (in April 2014).

Well, I can honestly say I did not see this coming at all. Was all but certain that Marvel had written off the character internally as not being franchise material.

i dont wanna hear about things in 2020. ill be fucking 40 :(

Woo! Hopefully, this means that Captain Marvel script will be excellent and doesn't succumb to the typical Marvel movie fault of having a terrible villain. I'm surprised they greenlit Ant-Man 2 considering the mixed critical response and the fact it didn't exactly set the box office on fire. Hopefully, they can better the script and make it strike that right balance of humor, aciton, and story.

Within the next 5 to 10 years, every A & B-list actor & actress is going to get that Marvel money at the rate they're making films.

Captain Marvel had been slated for November. Black Panther was a summer release, but it was also being sandwiched between Aquaman, animated Spider-Man, and some unannounced X-Men movie (literally one after another for the month of July), so makes sense to get it out of that clusterfuck.

Ahh, you're correct. I stand corrected.

It would still be a part of Marvel's lineup. They're the ones who announced the date for the first film in phase 3.

Did they? Seems unusually given that it's not their film.

Not sure what you're getting at. In this day and age, I really don't think that has anything to do with "lack of faith" in the movies or other nonsense.

I feel like you're making a statement when you say 'I'm launching a new franchise in the summer' opposed to sticking it in the first quarter of the year.

On the whole it could all be so much horse trading as others have said the schedule is filling up pretty quickly but there is still a feeling that Black Panther is perhaps now 'less of a priority' than it was when it was scheduled for the summer.

$178m at the US box office "didn't exactly set the box office on fire"????!!!!!!!

I've said it before. Hollywood will always prioritize the sequel of a moderate hit over risking a new IP. This is yet another proof of that.

Hot damn well deserved. Considering it was on par with Iron Man 1 box office, it's not too surprising, especially since AntMan will get more name recognition when he steals the show in Civil War.

I like that they moved BP up too, instead of bumping him back like usual. I'll be honest, I don't have any interest in Captain Marvel yet. I'm sure that will change tho in time.

Ant-Man got around an 80% on Rotten Tomatoes. That's pretty damn good, if you ask me.

Since they've announced Captain Marvel they don't actually need to make the movie - or any other with a female lead. They can always point to the fact that they finally announced it, back then, and have it in production. Meanwhile they can jam in as many of the old guys sequels and side projects as they wish. Screw you guys - it was already way overdue when it was announced, and not near enough to have one project among 20, 30, whatever films, and yet they've pushed it back and announced a ton of other shit since and it's not getting any closer - quite the opposite - while their other female heroes are getting fuck all attention.

Captain Marvel needs as much time in the cooker as they can give it. Carol is a fairly bad character without any good storylines or villains, so for that movie to have a chance of being good it's going to need an Iron Man style reinvention of the property.

The film is being pushed back to make room for a movie with a female hero in the title and co protagonist role.

Remember all the negative hype Ant-Man got, it would be shit because Edgar Wright left...

Feels good, man.

I was pissed until I realized Black Panther had moved up, not back.

Annoyed I have to wait longer for Captain Marvel because of an Ant-Man sequel.

I would be concerned about moving Black Panther up, but considering that it's now in February they must be super confident.
February has become an unexpected sweet spot for action movies. Kingsman made most of it's domestic cash in that month, American Sniper did well in the time frame (January release, but it had a long tail), and FOX is releasing Deadpool that month. The February stigma is dead.

we live in a world where an Ant-Man movie making 650 million dollars is considered meddling.

We have been so blessed.

Peyton Reed (Director of Ant-Man 1) tweeted out the announcement, which I imagine he wouldn't do if he was out of the running to direct the sequel. I'm not saying it's confirmed, just thought that was interesting.

Yep, Furious 7 showed that any movie can be gangbusters on a weird month if sold right.

I'm glad Ant-Man did well enough for them to want a sequel for it, though, like others mentioned, the Captain Marvel push sucks.

Happy to see them commit to an Ant-Man sequel. I see they've also decided to move Black Panther up so people won't have to wait until after Infinity War Pt1 to see him again post-Civil War. Not sure about Feb date though. Seems.... odd for a blockbuster? Maybe they're not making a blockbuster after all, and it'll be a 50 million dollar drama about T'Challa having to deal with diplomatic shit! :P :P

One of those "untitled" films is probably a holding date for Spider-man 2.
