Is it common to make big multi-topping sandwiches in the US?

If OPs goal was to dissuade me from ever visiting Sweden mission accomplished. I need a list of European countries that have good sandwiches and not this single piece of bread junk. EuroGAF sound off, I know that Belgium guy showed a pretty nice sandwich. Apparently my favorite sandwich, reuben, isn't actually German, someone please tell me Germany has other good sammies.

My goodness after seeing some of these Euro sandwiches.

The gruel sir. I'll take the gruel.

I come into this thread every couple hours and read the last 10 posts. I leave struggling to hold back laughter each time. Thank you EuroGAF for struggle sandwiches - the gift that keeps on giving

When I saw the words "butter and cheese sandwich", I knew this thread was going to be pretty funny. I laughed until tears came out, thank you GAF.

What kinda poverty shit is that? Gross. "Know what this solid milk fat needs? Less solid milk fat"

Sometimes it's an actual debate but the US has the sandwich game on lock.

I love how on this page, GAF's targeted adds are all for pizza and shit. (yes, I turn off add-blocker to support the GAF).

Bread doesn't even look toasted in that pic, man. Just tepid butter and hard cheese. It's...depressing. I'm afraid you may never live it down.

That too. Mistakes were made. ^_^;

What's depressing about hard cheese? Food of the gods. You don't need to melt or toast everything.

I grew up with having only one topping on my sandwich, with very few exceptions. Pretty normal here in Sweden (although definitely not uncommon with multiple toppings as well). Never gave much thought to it.

Nothing is depressing about hard cheese. It's the combo. Floppy mass-produced bread, unmelted dobs of tepid butter, all topped with hard cheese. Heat would have solved all three issues (even just hard cheese unmelted on toast would have worked a treat), but in its current form it looks like it needs a hug.

It's just normal bread (the kind you're not supposed to toast) with butter spread on it and cheese on top. A normal breakfast sandwich that millions of Swedes eat for breakfast every day. No need to be dramatic!

This is just the best thread ever.

Though for me the best comfort sandwich other than the American staples I grew up with, would be a tortilla bocadio, or bread, goat cheese and serrano jamon.

Probably does not qualify as a sandwich, but German sausages in bread rolls are pretty common.

I think the most disgusting thing posted in this thread was that hot dog that's just a sausage wrapped around a tortilla.

As a Mexican American I find that doubly offensive.

My mother, god bless her soul, constantly reinforces our german roots by cooking german food my great-grandmother (german immigrant) taught her.

I swear I put on 5lbs every time I come home :')

I don't think someone posted a picture of a sausage (hot dog..?) wrapped around a tortilla. Someone did post a tortilla wrapped around a sausage though.

It actually works really well as struggle food when you have no hot dog buns or the buns got moldy. Just gotta cook the flour tortillas on a comal to make 'em a bit crunchy/toasty.

Disclaimer: I'm part Mexican too :-P

When I was in Rome, the breakfast option was Bread, cheese and ham (as well as pastry)

Was a pretty good start to the day instead of cereal or spreads on toast.

You're the one who compared the sandwich on Rick and Morty to something we would ration to prisoners in the US. :p

But yeah, we just put butter on our toast. (We do bagels with cream cheese a lot, too.) Butter and swiss cheese on toast is an improvement - I never thought of that before. However, I would put it in a toaster oven to melt the cheese a bit. Still, that's not what we would call a "sandwich". And as I'm sure you know by now, the sandwich on Rick and Morty is not something we'd have for breakfast. A breakfast sandwich would have eggs and either bacon or sausage, and there would be no lettuce or tomato.

Americans are comparing this

to this

When they should be comparing it to this

How the hell are you going to complain about a comparison that YOU MADE in YOUR THREAD and say "/thread" as if you just won?

Your initial complaint was that they don't show "sandwiches" that are "normal" and "common" in YOUR country within shows that were produced by and for people from ANOTHER COUNTRY where "sandwiches" look like the ones depicted in the show? Does logic work differently where you're from?

Thank you based thread, though, for introducing the "strugwich," the new greatest word.

Actually it said "basic" not "normal" or "common" when I started the thread. I just added the "normal" and "common" later to see how much outrage it would cause when I realized "sandwich" means something very different in the US (something I had no idea about when I started the thread). Sorry about that. It wasn't a complaint or a comparison though, don't know where you get that.

yeah well, Katz Deli isn't exactly a picture of the normal American sandwich either.

I mean a normal "bag lunch" sandwich is 2 pieces of bread, a couple slices of deli meat, a piece of cheese, mayo, and maybe some lettuce or tomato or onion or something. The fillings are generally not half as thick as a slice of bread.

This looks more typical to me for someone who packs a sandwich from home for their lunch. Maybe even a little thicker than normal due to the tomato:

Yeah that's a normal sandwich here in the UK/Europe too.

A lot of bullshit talked in this thread.

Crisp sandwiches are awesome though.
