Siliconera didn't rectify anything by the time Karin and Mika were revealed.

And that isn't even my point, my point is that they may not have even known anything about them being DLC or not. The leaker might not have either. They might have just found out that those characters were being worked on as playable characters. Do you honestly believe that Capcom is literally only working on 16 characters at the moment? And once they are done and have released the game they are then going to start getting to work on new characters?

Why would they? The info just got partially "confirmed" lol

But they sure as hell gloated about it. "As Siliconera reported last month, Mika announced for SF5".
 
Supposedly when Ono confirmed Laura was Sean's older sister, places didn't pick up that he also said she's the middle child out of 3. However, Ono didn't mention the eldest's name or gender, so people were kinda flippant about it and focused on the older sister of Sean thing.

Who, Guile? At this point, the last veteran is definitely a SFII character (unless they want to reveal DLC characters ahead of time).

The dream died when Zangief was revealed, at least the dream for the base roster. There's hope for DLC (I'd be shocked if Alex & Urien weren't among the first DLC characters alongside Juri & maybe Akuma), but it's time to move on.
 
They got the Mika/Karin leak right, and c'mon, it would be a very hard guess if it was a guess.

Yes, I know Ono likes Mika and Karin, but then, where's Blanka?

I'll give Siliconera credit on that leak

Mika and Karin have appeared in every SF fake leak list since Vanilla SF4. Super coming? "Mika Karin". AE? "Maybe Mika and Karin besides the twins!" SFxT? Mika and Karin, for sure!

If I hadn't mentioned it yet; here's who I think the last 'returning' character would be-
50% chance it's Dhalsim
50% chance it's Gouki/Akuma
1% chance Alex and Urien are in, and Zen is a non-playable boss

It implies launch. If they thought they'd be DLC they'd have specified that.

Nobody was writing/reporting on anything but launch. The "maybe it was DLC" aspect of the story was applied retroactively by readers who wished to keep the leak relevant.

Considering the specificity of the information they were providing, the omission of any DLC mention means they weren't trying to report on DLC. They were reporting on starting roster.

Something probably changed between the information being given to them and the information as it was revealed. That's all.

Pretty much my take on it. While people are saying the roster is locked down well in advance, it's clear this is a long tail game. They may have just gotten a potential character list.

Also I still think Alex gets revealed at NYCC because there's nobody else to put there.

Nothing besides the images we've been getting at conventions. I know one of my friends just got us a shot at Laura's movelist.

The roster is basically the first thing that gets done in a fighting game. Devs don't make this stuff up as they go.

The location thing started with Rashid, we don't know if there's a reveal for NYCC. So it doesn't really mean anything

That means nothing you can have a white and a darker brother/sister from the same parents. Brazillians come in many colors too, just like Hispanics that look like Germans until they open their mouths.

On topic: don't expect a character announcement at NYCC 3 characters in one month is overkill. We should have the full roster next month.

Karin had some copyright shit involving a Manga creator or something. I remember a bunch of people calling the rumor bullshit as soon as the name "Karin" was mentioned, because of those legal issues.

Anyway, I'm not 100% about the leak, I just won't be surprised if they end up in the game at some point

I assume it's because she's 1/4 Japanese.

On the topic of the Matsudas, apparently Ono also mentioned at the Brazil Game Show that Laura is a middle child. Sadly, no specifics were given about the eldest sibling (gender, name, etc.).
