Rumor from Japan: SNK Playmore has left Pachinko business

The Yakuza work towards legalizing gambling though, iirc.

Yes? Not quite sure I understand how that is relevant to the industry declining. If you know something, I'm all ears.

I didn't think the pachinko business was declining since Konami was getting in on it.Come on KOF 14. Be good now...

They've been in the business for a while. They sell a lot of gambling equipment overseas, so I doubt this will affect them too much.

They are now owned by a Chinese company and Pachinko obviously has little worth to them considering it´s mainly a Japanese thing.

Well, market expansion with slot machines could revitalize the industry, I reckon.

Thanks for the clarification. Yes, I suppose that is a possibility. It probably depends a lot on what state the economy is in and how much the market has contracted by then.

Money is money regardless, which is why as mentioned before must have been their specific machines out on the market are not performing up to expectation therefore the reasonable decision was to cut production now. Even more so considering the current climate of the declining pachislot market where competition is fierce. Esp the fact that favorites already exist.

i'm still rocking my pachinko machine from indiana jones

i really don't get the hate in pachinko

People don't hate Pachinko. People hate video games no longer being produced in favor of Pachinko/Pachinko business not being affected.
It's just like the mobile hate.
oh .. so basically the inevitable shift in gaming..
don't hate adept ..

i personally think my iphone 6+ has the best version of ff7..

If this decline of pachinko hits Konami, I'll be glad, they made their bet on the wrong horse. If they do return to game production again, I'll like "it's okay, I forgive you, now give me a new Goemon, you drat bastard, you".

WTF !

What is going on in SNK Playmore ? I don't understand..

SNK has historically been blessed with excellent artists and cursed with questionable businessmen.

They have new Chinese owners, and they seem committed to cleaning up the company's act to some extent - they intervened in the Square Enix legal process, and now this, so maybe that's a good sign.

I just hope they don't neglect the world outside Asia...

Can't wait to see the new mobile games SNK will be pushing out!

What, you all didn't seriously believe they're going to put more resources into the dead-end of console games development, did you?

It's highly likely that it will be awful, just look at the teaser trailer.

Yeah, you can totally get a handle on the gameplay mechanics with a fifteen second teaser.

KOF is huge in game centers in China and it's likely the new owners will be captializing on the success with new games...for game centers!

And besides, Metal Slug Defense and their Neo Geo ports on iOS are great.

"And so, with the help of their new friends from China, the Kusanagi and Yagami clans once were able to band together, in order to end the curse of the vile Pachinko clan..."

Chinese characters have actually been getting more relevant in the KoF story for the past few years, between the dragon power stuff between Kensou and Bao since 99, the Flying Bragand assasins of which Lin, Lon and Duo Lon are part, Shen Woo, and Shion's teaser appearance in the secret ending to XIII's Story mode.

In a fighting game it's about 80%.

bullshit number but it's wayyyyy important

Models can look like ass after the beautiful shit they gave us before, it's the rebuilding season, I got hope

They are switching to 3D, how can you have any hope?

2 - Considering we're hearing of cuts from other companies in that space, it means Konami's plans aren't going to go as well as they wish
How so? From what I heard Konami is betting BIG in mobile and gambling in Japan and they also export Slot Machines overseas so I can't see them suffering that much with the decline of Pachinko =/

Tecmo's Nioh came back from the dead.

But yeah, insane list.

Gameplay mechanics aren't everything.

And neither should an entire game's worth be judged based on 15 seconds on what was likely very rough alpha footage.

It's like people forget that SF4 looked very bad and very rough when it was first revealed.

Now, granted, I'm not expecting the world from SNKP's 3D capabilities. But I'm at least expecting something that's a) serviceable and b) would enable them to make more character models as quickly as possible. Because in the end, I'm sure the reason they're going for the lower-end when it comes to 3D graphics is because the focus is on making the roster pretty large. Especially if that target roster of "~50 characters" that they talked about holds up (along with the desire for something that played closer to '98).

Yeah, I know. I was just being cheeky~!

But on that note...it'd be nice if upcoming games in the sake finally did shed some light on what exactly is going on with the Chinese-related threads in the lore that have some threads that have been left dangling since as early as 2001.
