I don't think you understand how impressive 85+ tournament wins across 10+ games is.
So every single game in these Smash tournaments were 1v1? Impressive
Only the finals. I don't bother with the Smash early bracket stuff, so I asked a question. Chill
What's so impressive about that? That has always been the standard for any fighting game.
I don't get it... ._.
Because 4 players would open up a lot more chances to sneak out a win rather than 1 on 1 on a game like Smash?
But... that goes against the entire point of competitive play, right? Why would any tournament players want that?
What fighting game is not 1v1? Besides smash doubles.
I will say this, again: I wasn't sure how earlier Smash bracket matches were done, so I asked. That's it.
That's fair, I suppose. Still an odd thing to assume if you have any experience with fighting games, though...
My goodness... LOLhe has a sCARf
Is this the part where we debate whether or not Smash is a "real" fighting game? This thread has to go there eventually,
Flash in Brood War is the real answer.
This big?

Smash hasn't reached that high numbers compared to LoL, DotA, CS:GO, Hearthstone.
LoL has surpassed SC:BW.
Where Brood Wars was only great in South Korea, LoL is just like that, but the entire world.
Thread's over.
About time to broaden your horizon beyond the Western hemisphere.
Flash was dominant to a point we'll never see again, but in fighting game terms ZerO is doing pretty well for himself.
I believe melee at least does comparable numbers to the CS:GO one for majors.
It's as though Star Craft doesn't exist or something.
Does he actually play anything other than Smash? Just because it was at EVO ($$$) doesn't make it a fighting game, no matter how hard the millenials cry for it to be. Competitive party game? Sure.
I lliterally cannot believe this. Smash Bros has deeper mechanics than most other modern fighting games. What's the problem with calling it a fighting game? It fits the exact literal definition of a fighting game.

I was posting for the LoL numbers.
CS:GO's peak is also a million on Twitch.
He might not know about half of those game scenes, which is why he is asking GAF to see if there have been more dominant players in those scenes. He didn't closely examine every great player in every single e-sport since 1970 and come up with the conclusion that Zero was the greatest player of all time, that's not what this thread is about.Let's try this again . I post sumail is the most dominant player in esports ever .
I ignore nips reign I ignore fatalitiy's run . I ignore everything to do with sc. Ignore dota1 scene wc3 scene FIFA scene and god know how much more . It's like saying wow look at this guy who won curling championships 11 times in a row isn't he the best sportsperson ever ? Smash isn't in the upper echelons of esports and even ignoring that a comparison has to be made to other esports etc etc . Just because someone is the best ever at one thing which isn't even a top competitive esport doesn't mean you can ask the question . That's why me and many others have reacted negatively .

Sakurai says Smash Bros. isn't a fighting game, 'completely different label'. Talks game development, fighting genre and the value of unpredictability
How many people that actually believe this play anything other than Smash games as their "fighter"?

I consider it a party platformer.

Uh...SepirothKen? Mango? [A]rmada? I'd rate those three guys as the best of all time for smash before I consider ZeRo.

Congrats on the mental gymnastics required to categorise Smash Bros alongside something like 4-player Mario Bros Wii/3D World rather than, you know, any 2D fighting game.
It's primarily a platformer, and it's a 4 player party game.
So, yeah, it does fit that category. It's in the same vein as Power Stones in my mind.

this thread makes me miss bw
sure, the competition was absolutely brutal and i bet a few kids had their lives ruined cause they couldn't make it to the top even after spending so many crucial years practicing the game
but there was nothing like it and dont think there ever will be
wish afreeca didn't lag so much for me

The OP just wanted to recognize Zero's achievements and wonder if anyone else has also been insanely dominant. He never said that everyone else is a worse competitor.Faker started competing in 2013.
Smash is a fighting game and you'd have to be pretty stupid and in denial to categorize it as a party platformer
He never said that everyone else is a worse competitor.
Do you know what this means? Because I dontparty platformer.
Being ignorant to Smash's high level fighting mechanics this much...I didn't say it isn't a fighting game, but party platformer comes first in my mind.
Nintendo never built this game originally for eSports. They intended it for a bunch of young children to have fun together.
Saying it isn't a party platform is even less true than saying it isn't a 2d fighter.
Reread the thread title.

And I still don't think you've watched a single set of competitive Smash. Watch a random set like this and tell me that Smash is just a party game.
Being ignorant to Smash's high level fighting mechanics this much...![]()
It's primarily a fighting game (as is Power Stone), seeing as the primary goal is defeating Human/CPU opponents using a suite of melee/ranged combat moves. How is it primarily a platformer when 99% of how the game is played has little to do with platforming?
Faker started competing in 2013.
It's funny you'd say thatstupid Faker couldn't be playing sooner being underage and sht
