Street Fighter V Roster Discussion |Thread 2| Deal with it & place your hope for DLC

Well, her game apparently got cancelled or something. since we haven't heard anything about it and it's not released yet as well.

yeah according to the Capcom wikia-

The game was originally going to be released as part of the Minna to series, being titled Minna to Dai Koukai Frontier. However, as it was discontinued on April 11, 2013,[1] the title and release date were changed.

It was part of a 6 game deal with Gree

Whoa, that's Usagi from Gotcha Force in the back next to Amy! I'm really surprised by her inclusion.

Ok that cant be Alex
Alex would never clap for someone elses victory!

Side-note, whoever said that the cop car says "MPD" is right. So, I have to ask: Is this really an NYC stage? Or a Metro City one that's going out of its way to look like New York, and for whatever reason isn't oozing with Final Fight nods like the previous Metro City stages?

and new Ruby Heart games

Even if it got canned, I don't know how I feel about that. On the one hand, I like her better as an original generation, MvC character (Even if those games have no plot). On the other, we're not getting a new Mahvel any time soon...

Maybe they're retconning it so that NYC is now Metro City?

I dislike that they chose to enlarge Ruby's cleavage, her MvC2 artwork was great-

Different artists draw characters differently. It's not like there was a 20 person committee that voted to make her chest larger.

Also, it's not like the new drawing is drastically different from the MvC2 drawing, so it's not a 'totally different character' or anything like that. If you haven't linked the original drawing, I wouldn't have even noticed.

I didn't even notice until you pointed it out. Yeah it looked better before though.

NYC and Metrocity seem to be one in the same these days.I mean it's literally New York.

I have a feeling I must be overlooking a bunch of similarities but I never thought of Metro City as being NYC. The only thing that comes to mind is that they are both on the east coast of the US.

Metro City seemed like Detroit/Chicago to me but I'm cool if it's NYC now.

2 new characters and 1 classic, I'll just prepare myself to be disappointed from now, even though I've been disappointed since Rainbow Mika

I quite like the idea of NYC being retconned into being Metro City. Seeing as the police cars have MPD on them on that stage it seems like that's what's happened.

Well I mean that's literally wall street, those are literally NYPD squad cars. how would you differentiate the two? The only explanation is that they're one in the same now

This. I never associated Metro City with NYC, because I swore it never was.

Who are these posters saying Metro City is NYC.

Also, the Metro City stage gives me hope my boy will be in this. Cody.

Right maybe in the 90s when they just vaguely shared landmarkers, but this is literally wall street. Obviously to me they're reconning it. Unless you can explain two different cities being the exact same.

SF4 skyscraper stage showed repairs and building new stuff. Sounds plausible.

Maybe Haggar had enough of the slummy Metro City and converted it into a replica of NYC? The construction work in the skyscraper stage in SF4 might have been the start of that conversion.

Either that or they retconned Metro City to be NYC.

Hmmm. If they retconned Metro City to be NYC and Alex is from New York this actually gives a lot more credibility to the Alex/Axl theory.

Lol they're two different characters, why wouldn't they be?

People just weren't sure who was in the background, not that they were the same guy. It's clearly Alex.

Weirdly, one of the things that made me think Metro City was NYC now was the Marvel 3 intro. NYC is obviously in the Marvel Universe, and thus is in MVC, but when the Capcom characters come into that universe, Haggar is shown to be running for Mayor of NYC, which I always figured was because NYC was essentially his city with a different name in a different universe.

The police cars say "MPD," which probably stands for Metro (City) Police Department.

Not really into retconing Metro City into NY. Metro City's entire deal is that it's a shitty, crime ridden cross between 70s New York and Detroit. Without that it's not really anything.

I just assumed he either moved from Metro City to NYC at some point, or that Metro City and NYC were one on Earth-30847 (MvC's Earth) in order to keep the game's centralized around NYC for Marvel's sake.

For some reason, it never struck me that NYC and Metro City might have merged in the SF universe, as well, but consolidating NYC, Chicago, Detroit, etc. into one big Western-U.S. city would make sense. I'd rather they all be separate, but in the SF-verse, only Metro City needs to exist as a location, and it means they don't need to do redundant stages to cover major cities like NYC. The only downside is that Jazzy NYC's name wouldn't make sense post-retcon, but this stage uses new music, anyway. Maybe they're saving it for a character theme?

It's not really much of a retcon.

Metro City was always basically New York. It has the Statue of Liberty. There are no subways in Detroit, when stage 2 of Final Fight is a subway.

I was referring to this theory:

Like I said two pages ago:

What if Alex was always meant (or is now re-written) to be a named member of the "Axl" family, just like Hugo is part of the "Andore" family? His name is sort of an anagram for Axl even, right?

He of course becomes more unique in his later III version, but I'm talking about his origin, which is how he might be shown here in V.

With Metro and New York City fusing into one this makes this theory even more probable.

Exactly, but it's an NYPD Squad car design wise

If they really wanted to differentiate nyc from metocity youd think they would at least come up with a different design for something so simple
Capcom can be lazy. You guys are giving them too much slack. It's obvious the Metro City and NYC are the same just with different names. Just like Gotham City and Metopolis are NYC with different names .
Gotham really is a name of NYC though.

If Alex is indeed in, this would be the biggest curve ball Ono has thrown lol

Shows character in a background

Everybody calls the dream dead

Reveals the character later on

Profit

Wait a minute now...Gotham to me was always Chicago.

Metropolis and Gotham are NOT the same city (NYC).

Cool that we get another new character, too bad they won't be playable. If anything, they will be the first DLC character available, for obvious reasons.

EDIT: You guys think it's another mistake? Considering there's so many Cap USA emps & it's an English-speaking audience, I would hope there's no room for miscommunication. Would be amusing that they're having so much touble getting a simple message across, lol.

Yep. Retcon City. It's gonna happen. We'll find out today. Sean has siblings, Alex = Axl, Ryu and Ken weren't born in the 60s anymore...

I'm ready for that story mode trailer Capcom. Bring it on.

They are based of NYC in the day and Night of course not exactly the same place. NYC is in DCU and it's where the Justice League building is. Gotham is supposedly in Jersey but Gotham is a name for new york in the olden days. Washington Irving used it in a poem or two.

It's not that it's NYC, it's that it might just be slightly fictionalized NYC. In my mind, Metro City, South Town, and Santa Destroy are all competing for "worst American city to live in". If the crazy crime goes away there's nothing all that special about the town.

I'm making assumptions though, so maybe I'm wrong or it'll be something else interesting. I just don't like it when unique qualities get removed.
