Street Fighter V Roster Discussion |Thread 2| Deal with it & place your hope for DLC

Cool that we get another new character, too bad they won't be playable. If anything, they will be the first DLC character available, for obvious reasons.

EDIT: You guys think it's another mistake? Considering there's so many Cap USA emps & it's an English-speaking audience, I would hope there's no room for miscommunication. Would be amusing that they're having so much touble getting a simple message across, lol.

Yes it's a mistake, just like the other mistake people went crazy over and nothing confirms we'll get a new char today.

I doubt that it would be correct information since there are many mistakes out there. I would be completely okay with two more newcomers tho since It would be awesome if we are getting Zen as 4th playable newcomer, and 5th newcomer is SFV Boss.

Wait a minute now...Gotham to me was always Chicago.

Metropolis and Gotham are NOT the same city (NYC).

Gotham is actually based off of NYC (because Bob Kane and Bill Finger were both from NYC so they used it as inspiration) but it is located in New Jersey. The whole Chicago bit was a Christopher Nolan creation. Metropolis on the other hand is an amalgamation of Cleveland (where Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster grew up) and Toronto (where Joe Shuster was born) but it is located in Delaware. I know, confusing.

For some reason, it never struck me that NYC and Metro City might have merged in the SF universe, as well, but consolidating NYC, Chicago, Detroit, etc. into one big Western-U.S. city would make sense. I'd rather they all be separate, but in the SF-verse, only Metro City needs to exist as a location, and it means they don't need to do redundant stages to cover major cities like NYC.

It does make sense to have Metro City represent North America as a whole. Like you said, there's no reason to have multiple cities and stages exsist when you can organise and represent them under one city. It also helps give SF their own identity and world by having their own cities instead of using real-life ones.

Another day, another random rumor. This time it's from GameFAQs. Though to be fair, the guy saying this has an 8-year-old account with good karma, so I guess that's something to consider.

Personally, I'd be down for this, but I'm not gonna get my hopes up.

Lol. The increasing of the roster is something i joked about a while ago.
If true- awesome. Too bad it wont turn out to be true. Would love to be proven wrong

"You see our new CWA champion zengief! The red cyclone, defeating Gunloc for the title..."

"With hard work you can too can become champion little comrades..."

"..... Oh who's that? Axl Alex! Bah gawd power bomb out of nowhere!! Someone stop him that man has a family of bears at his home in Russia"

"At ease looseah"

Honestly, I don't see them adding any more characters to the base roster. Day 1 DLC? Sure? An unplayable boss character who gets a playable version within months of launch? Definitely. But I think 16's a hard cap for the core roster.

my logical side would say it makes sense to have a larger roster when they still have 5 months and only 2 character reveals left... but you know... Gamefaqs :/

It's obviously a mistake (that's what I'm running with at least), but isn't this the same statement that the Japan, Brazilian, and Russian(?) teams gave out? It starts getting suspicious when you have 3-4 different marketing teams in different regions making the same mistake in different languages to different audiences.

No, the Brazillian panel was very specific: 1 vet 1 new character left

every time i check here "the stream starts in 2 hours" i checked a hour ago "2 hours" i check now "2 hours" anyone actually know what time it starts lol

*waits for reply "in 2 hours"*

Panel starts at 5:30. I'm sitting in the room now for the All That reunion panel happening in the same room that the SF panel will be held in.

I know that feeling; I sat through the SDCC Battlestar Galatica panel for their SFV panel. I knew nothing about the series, but I got a pretty good seat because I just waited through it.

Try two hours earlier. Room was jammed by 2:30. I got here about 2:20 and barely got a seat. Most of the room is here for All That or SF and sat through some CollegeHumor panel just so they'd have a seat.

I just meant to get a half decent place in line. It's already longer than the wraparound divider thingies.

EDIT: Aaaand they closed the line.

In the brazilian reveal, it was written: 1 returning character left + 1 new.

Even if the 18 rumor is true, I don't think they would talk about this now. They would make as a surprise for the last reveal.

"Here's your last character. Glad you like the roster and you can always wait for DLC,,but.....A NEW CHALLENGER APPEARS."

Something like that.
Even if there's 18 in the game, some of them might not be initially playable too.

They can keep the 16 core roster and still have 3 chars to announce. Locked or not playable boss? I would not consider that core.

They kept saying they would avoid locked chars because people complained in SF4.
I wonder if they couldn't just do an unlock button for those cases or a secret code. People that make tournaments would't complain that way.

In regards to the Story mode, while I'm almost sure they'd probably never take things to how I imagine a dope story mode could go in fighters, I have a few thoughts on how they could embody some new elements to their story mode (and probably other fighting games in general).

For one, if they're truly serious about the mode being a lot more important this time around, perhaps they should release the story in episodic content form whenever they have new character packs come in. Not as just an aside, but have the story truly progress within each update. This isn't to say that the initial roster's stories have to be on cliffhangers or anything like that, just that newer facets of the story and character would come to play as new/old characters come in DLC and have have an actual effect on the previous characters stories as well.

The other, which I feel would be an even more evolutionary form of handling story mode in fighters (and as such, probably even less likely to happen) would be that your story mode would actually have the option of fighting other online players whom are using characters that pertain to your fighter's story rather than just the AI. This could be done on the low level of importance sides of your fighter's quest like just fighting your average jobbers and the more significant fights like mid-stage bosses/bosses/rivalries, etc. I imagine it would mostly be at random, though, they could still tell brief story elements even for non-major fighter interactions pre-fight, which could also double as the load screens/wait for finding online opponents that are using said other characters. It'd be even iller to have this include their rank system for finding equally skilled, lesser skilled and more skilled opponents to be your story mode opposition, as that could be a bit like a difficulty setting for the story mode itself. It could even move the story forward still if you lose and have the story incorporate the win or loss to those specific characters as well, rather than the obligatory fight quote screen only. I figure this would be an efficient way of having online only gamers that normally wouldn't even bother with the story mode more of an incentive to play it, as it'd be suiting the best of both worlds. Obviously, it can be selected off if you'd opt not to fight anyone online with your story mode.
