The only episode I remembered from the series was the one where a monster attacked people from the toilet/sewers. I was too scared to watch another episode. lol

I read the novelization of that episode back in the second year of highschool, more than a decade before seeing the episode. I had to write on it. It very much disgusted me (the story, that is).

I never thought I'd be so psyched for this show to be back on television.
But the theme at the end... chills. I'm in.

Great trailer - I'm psyched for this. Needs more Joel McHale, though.

Still can't believe it - Twin Peaks AND The X-Files revivals in the same year. Amazing!

So is it going to be like a movie-miniseries type deal with one storyline plot throughout all episodes, or are we having any monster-of-the-week episodes too?

I never really cared about the whole shadow government conspiracy stuff, but absolutely loved the out there episodes of the latter format.

Half and half. So like 3 monster episodes.

I haven't finished going through the series yet as I'm still on season 4, but I'm really surprised Skinner survives the series. I assumed he would eventually get taken out for continually helping Mulder & Scully.

Skinner is a badass. Its the best thing he is back for this. And he looks really good too.

I really hope the ratings are good and that Fox convinces everyone to make more. I already have the Blu-Ray set on preorder. My hype for this is 'Out There'!

I was going to say Scully looks great (Gillian always does)... but damn, Skinner looks badass!

Mulder seems goofy as hell for some reason.

Happy to see we'll get some monster of the week episode, they were always my favourite. If we could get something as good as Home...

Only 2 mytharc episodes? :/ Why bother. Dunno how they can finish this properly now. Unless they're trying to drum up hype for another movie.

Sigh. They should be serial mytharc. 4/6 motw is a waste.

Here's the secret guys... the mythology was garbage. Always was. I'd be even happier if they ditched it for good. Run a few MOTW over several episodes to flesh them out; now that would be the best thing ever.

Come on, the mythology up to season 5 or 6 was what made the show. I can't believe how overrated MOTW episodes are, there was a dozen or so great MOTW episodes and the rest were forgettable and formulaic though still fun to watch (because of Mulder and Skully's chemistry)

Yeah garbage is a little harsh. It lent some weight to the show, but come on, no one remember the mytharc nonsense. Everyone remembers the classic MOTW episodes. The Host, Home, Tooms, Shapes, Darkness Falls, Humbug. The comedy classics small potatoes and jose chung.

Mulder and Scully in the heartland of America (actually Canada) doing spooky shit. That's the X-Files.

Also, the show fucking killed its atmosphere when they started shooting in LA. All Tea Leonis fault.

I'm watching the show for the first time. I'm at the end of season 1. I'm not sure if I can finish it because I hate procedural/motw. Worst trend in television.

Just watch the mythology ones?

Watch jose chung's from outer space though. Best comedy episode.

I actually enjoyed the mythology as much and sometimes more then the monster of the week episodes (which were also fantastic). I can completely understand why Chris Carter decided to go with two mythos episodes and four non-mythos episodes. I'm ok with this personally and I do really hope people actually watch and support these episodes so that more can be made.

Some of the very best episodes in The X-Files were the mythology episodes with Alex Krycek. Also, most of the MOTWs *rocked*. The X-Files was one of those rare shows that had A+ grade mythology and standalone episodes. The two formats complemented each another and were inseparable.

To this day, The X-Files "hybrid" format is still my favorite format for storytelling on TV. I greatly prefer it over cookie-cutter procedurals which are repetitive and novelistic dramas where no episodes ever stand out or have any unique identity. January 24 can't get here soon enough.

One of the Lone Gunmen was on Richard Hoaglands podcast recently. He basically said that at first that the plan was to wrap up all the mythology storylines but that everyone was so impressed with the outcome that there will be another season after this.

Do you have a source for this? Link to the podcast or something?
