Street Fighter V Roster Discussion |Thread 2| Deal with it & place your hope for DLC

Oh, so were there actually any surpises (or two) from the panel yesterday?

The surprise was that they gave us no new info.

Even the most pessimistic were expecting to learn at least something we didn't already know no matter how uninteresting or irrelevant, but they managed to surprise us all.

Well, there's the thing about the chaos in the NYC stage being related to the story somehow. Yeah, lame, but it's something.

I guess :-/

It's not like previous games like SF3 where the stages are straight up attributed to each character.

Again: I'm not saying that there is a one to one correlation between stages and characters, so I'm not ignoring Dahlgren's words at all.

I'm simply saying that each character belongs in a certain stage, and that they are likely to share this stage with others. The character art strongly hints at that scenario, and even at which stage a character belongs to. The only thing that's off for now, frustratingly enough, is that there are characters with art that doesn't translate to any stage (yet).

Granted, they might never remedy that last bit, but after first tying a large number of characters to a stage via their art, not doing the same for the rest would only make the ones that don't belong in a stage stand out more like a sore thumb. Also, if they really didn't plan on making any sort of connection between characters and stages, they should not have started making those pieces of art that contain hints of these characters' "home" stages.

By the way: 3rd Strike is actually the best example here, as all characters did belong to some stage or other, but only some of them had their own unique stages attributed to them (like Hugo, Urien, Elena, Makoto, etc). Others, like the twins, Necro and Twelve, or Alex and Ken instead shared a stage (that had some visual variation) that fitted them both. I think that's what they're going for with V as well (hopefully including time/weather variations between character versions of each shared stage).

So now you cant play defensive without charge? lol
No but I think it's bullshit that after 20 years they just got it from the system and I'm looking at an almost recognizable cast of dis interesting favorites from easily the worst part of the series to me (3) and even more uninteresting new characters that should have been saved for dlc

Ono confirmed that we will know the full roster in 1-2 months, which everyone already kind of knew.

Makes sense to me... show off the India character in Mumbai next month, story mode reveal as a stage presentation at PSX on Dec 5th, and final character reveal that same day before Capcom Cup grand finals.

Jan/Feb they'll probably start showing off some of the cosmetic DLC and perhaps the first DLC fighter.

EDIT- Oh nice... now that we have a direct youtube feed video, let me point out again that the broken van Alex can't fix has a license plate that says SSF V and how HILARIOUS that is https://youtu.be/U_Nkw0q7Zlw?t=2m31s

Thats strike 2 for what I predicted .... Although there was no new trailer :( , They did tease Alex.

I dont think the Alex/Urien dream is dead.

Heres my educated guess. ( Hey it worked for Sim and Gief , might work again)

BGS - Laura revealed
NYCC - Stage reveal + New trailer with Alex tease at the end ( Similar to Guy/Cody SFxT DLC tease)
IGX - Dhalsim reveal ( Its an Indian gaming event , its small compared to the likes of real events like NYCC,BGS..etc. so it kind of suits Sims reveal kinda like what they did with Gief with the Russian event)
PSX - Zen reveal with Urien tease as the boss character.
Feb/March - Final release trailer with Akuma tease at the end. ( Secret boss )

After release - Alex DLC trailer with another character teasedt.

You know there's no sf3 characters in V, right? It's all 2 or Alpha. You said something similar before, but I assumed you meant something else.

technically not true... since Alex is in a background they are being acknowledged. Although he's part of a "Super Street Fighter V" gag

IGX takes place is November incidentally enough.
Question is...do Indian players even care about Dhalsim?

Do Russians care about Zangief? They decided the roster first and then looked at international gaming events to decide who will be revealed where.

So is there any other gaming events in November other than IGX? Capcom has been revealing two characters a month since June so I expect the final two will be revealed next month ahead of PSX.

Just curious, do anyone think we might hear something about SFV at Paris Game Show?

At one point I did. It's possible we get a vet there and Zen at Mumbai. It's just hard to gauge these things when we don't have a release date yet so we don't know how long the marketing campaign will last.

I guess they will have a panel at paris game show, but no idea if they will have a reveal.

For the indian event, I think they will show zen

I would guess Zen will be the main antagonist this time. At least, I hope so. Urien isn't final boss material to me.

There's enough evidence with Nash's design and stage that either/both Urien and Gill are involved pretty heavily in the story. I tend to believe the Udon comic is close to (if not exactly) the storyline they're going to use.

Zen reveal in India, and Guile for the final reveal to lead-in to the story.

They would have showed Guile at NYCC, they are absolutely saving the last reveal for a new character. I will bet anything. Zen isn't even sure to be from Indian, but you know who is?

Thanks so much for this! A few random thoughts:

-Laura looks like a ton of fun and I'm really digging her options. As of now, she's looking like she may be in my top three most played characters. (along with Birdie and Mika)

-Awesome to see Snake Eyez play Gief but damn... I'm really not feeling the character in this game. With the other grapple-heavy characters being incredibly unique he looks so milquetoast by comparison. Gief was my most played character in IV but I'm starting to think I won't be touching him much at all in V.

-Karin is the most aesthetically pleasing design in the game right now -- which is awesome since we're going to be seeing a ton of her both in competitive play and online. (barring any major pre-launch changes) She's looking top tier as fuck and not only looks fun to play but also fun to play against. Those rekka options are awesome! Loved Alpha but was never a big fan of Karin until this redesign.

-Street Fighter is pure, concentrated fun again! :,)

EDIT:

The more I watch, the more Ibuki is ascending the ranks of characters I want to see in SFV for some reason.

Nah. No one expected them to show Guile. Everyone expected them to show Alex at NYCC and they did.

I understand they being involved in the story, I just hope Urien isn't the final boss =P
