[Steam] Zestiria tier 3 PO reward has unlocked (100%), PO now to get free Symphonia

I think 20-25% off you get from greenmangaming is worth more then Symphonia which is based in the PS3 port (i.e. PS2 port). I am probably going to skip this one till after release as there are too many games on the plate and I have some bad vibes about this port for some reason.

Buy it from someone with the Norwegian steam store instead. Around 40$, region free, has all them preorder bonuses.

And the port is going to turn out fine, I'd say.

God dammit now I'm so conflicted. I don't want to encourage 30fps. But a Tales game on PC? I want to encourage that. And Tales of Symphonia only sweetens the deal.

I don't play games with a 30 fps lock with very for exceptions but if you like the series you should support it. We know how weird japanese developers are when it comes to PC, if the game does well the next release will probably be a lot better. Remember the Dark Souls 1-2 situation.

Hrm. I bought it from...I forget which site. But it's a Steam key they'll send me before it comes out so I can pre-load it. I wonder if I'll get the stuff. If not, whatever.

I will definitely buy it soon, just to support jrpg pc ports! (even if i'm not fan of most "Tales of" series, only Phantasia and Destiny got my appreciation)

Unless it's noted on the site, no.
Steam pre-order rewards are usually available if you pre-order on steam unless the publisher asks a company like GreenManGaming to do something similar.

Yeah, Phantasia is fantastic. Out of the few I've played Phantasia and Graces are the only ones I really love

That's a non-issue with Steam refund. If they release something that doesn't work as it should, people will just get their money back.

Symphonia will be added to Zestiria's pre-order package, which means the two hour condition applies to both games since it's not technically possible for Valve to refund one game in a package and not the other.

I would be really surprised if they made ToS run like the GC version. If Zestiria is a direct port of the PS3 version with a few graphical improvements, I imagine ToS will be the same. And I don't think upping the frame rate is part of that. I personally don't care about frame rate. To me it's just another sign of Bamco half-assing anything Tales as of late.

I'll be interested to see how the ToS PC port turns out. Kudos to Bamco for the promotion, though. It took them this long, but they finally adopted a smart approach to marketing Tales in the West. Only took them... 18-ish years?

Grabbing a $50 Steam card for this when I pick up Legend of Legacy on Tuesday so I can pre-order now that it looks like the goal will be met.

It's not entirely the same situation, since Symphonia ran at 60 FPS previously. Zestiria has never run at 60 FPS.

Maybe they did some really dumb stuff with the PS2 port that would prevent them from reverting that 30 FPS cap, but in theory it doesn't seem like there should be anything explicitly tied to the framerate that would prevent them from altering it if they have already done it once.

I mean, I don't expect them to change it, but it doesn't seem like the same thing as Zestiria.

And the Zestiria port sounds pretty good as a whole, if it delivers on their promises (variable framerate up to 4k at least, a few settings for textures, shadows, and draw distance, the latter having an option beyond what the PS4 offers). I wouldn't call it half-assing.

Oh, I don't want a refund. I want the Tales series on Steam :)

It was just the guy I replied to said he was getting some bad vibes about about this port and that's something that's really not an issue on Steam after introducing their refund policy.

And really, there's no reason to assume it's gonna be a bad port. It looks pretty decent aside from the 30fps, in all likelihood it'll be the best version of the game..

What are impressions of Zestiria out of Japan? I haven't played a Tales game since Vesperia (which I loved) and I'm ready to support the franchise on PC. Don't want to buy a lackluster game though.

The base game is half-assed in terms of mechanics and other areas. The graphical touch ups and added options are nice, but I doubt they'll make up for the game's more gameplay-related issues.

Import impressions from a friend of mine who makes combo exhibition videos for the series and is fairly familiar with the series' various battle systems.

I actually pre-ordered it back when it was put up in the store.

I usually never do that, and very rarely buy stuff for its full price on Steam, but in this case I felt like I had to support the effort. Not only are they releasing a JRPG basically day-and-date on Steam, it's also the first time that they are offering dual audio on the initial release of a Tales game.

Both of these things (timely PC support and dual audio support) are really important to me.

It does seem to be working out for them.

Me too!

And now it's at 93%. It has gained 2% of progression since I made this thread, about 5 hours ago.

That coupled with being upfront about the performance options and 4k support are what really got me in there. Plus, I love it when I can finally support a series I like on my preferred platform.

Yeah, I was just clarifying that if people want to jump on the pre-order deal but wait and see if Symphonia is going to be a good port, then they're going to have to ignore Zestiria in the interim.

Vesperia is the last good Tales from my experience. I've played Xillia and thought it was bad. Graces had shit story and characters but had a pretty fun battle system, still a mediocre game overall.

I think the last 2 good ones were Abyss and Vesperia. I really hope this one is at least on the same level as those 2. The story usually falls apart in the 2nd half of Tales games, but as long as the world has interesting locations to explore I can overlook that to a certain extent.

So yeah I would love to read some impressions as well.

Wouldn't the two week limit prevent anyone from refunding over Symphonia? Or would there be another two week limit at Symphonia's release for anyone who didn't play Zestiria?

Awkward situation.

I imagine special cases like these are, in part, why Valve says "... but even if you fall outside of the refund rules we’ve described, you can ask for a refund anyway and we’ll take a look."

Too bad there is no SSAA option (or something similar)
Well, if it supports 4k (and hopefully, arbitrary resolutions) you can at least downsample it, which is almost as good. (Especially for a game like this which should run exceedingly well on high-end PC hardware -- probably no issue to run it at e.g. 6k)

Pre ordered this a few weeks ago. Id lile 60fps but with feedback i want to support more jrpgs on steam.

Symphonia...i played on ps3 but its a nice bonus anyway

Already pre-ordered, though I don’t know if I’ll play it the day it releases. Hearts R was cancerous and I dropped it 3 month ago. I don’t feel ready for more tales yet.

The last good Tales game was Tales of Vesperia. I didn't like Xillia and Graces too but Graces was better than Xillia. I've already pre-ordered long time ago on Steam. I hope it's good.

The sad thing about Symphonia is they never bothered upgrading the 2D assets of it. Thus a lot of the backdrops will look pretty awful at higher resolutions. :(

Well the PS2 port was originally ass. 30FPS, muddy textures, long ass load times....wouldn't surprise me if it was badly coded too. And I mean it's not like the PS3 version couldn't handle it either, they probably hard locked the PS2 version to 30FPS and ported it as is to PS3 and now PC as well.

95% now

Quite happy :D though I wouldn't be playing ToS for a while (I've played it non-stop the past week working on the Platinum Trophy...) regardless of when it releases but getting it for free is a nice bonus anyway :D

People do enjoy 30fps games, hence the games got positive reviews.

More like the games were good enough that being 30fps didn't make them terrible. Liking 30fps per se is Stockholm Syndrome.

----

On topic, will wait until it reaches 100% to see if I'll buy it or not.

I'll totally pick this up.

On sale.

There are many, many games this time of year.

And most aren't locked to 30 fps.

Preordered it also yesterday as the goal is almost reached.

Already played, 100%-ed and got the platinum for the two games on PS3 but I kind of want to replay it in a casual manner on PC.
I will be getting all the achievements again but I don't know yet if I'll try for more than that if 100%-ing requires more work than that. One time is enough.

Mh, I'm looking forward to the combat against (boss name spoiler)
Tiamat
. The music in that fight was awesome, as expected of Go Shiina.

Fantasic idea. I think I'll do the same, since I can get the reward points at Best Buy. Plus with my new R9 390 I'm back to buying cross platform titles on the PC.
