Its not that it was "supposed" to have one, it's that it was a prime opportunity to do one that was passed on. That is information.

I thought we would at least get character teases or more stage reveals or story/online/modes details, or even a release date. And the only reason why I thought that would happen is based on the history of major reveals Capcom had at previous year's NYCC for their flagship fighters.

But nope, I have egg on face. I was wrong. Can't believe they did NYC dirty like that. Dubai, Brazil and Russia > Amerika (NY) confirmed

It was a Joke mostly , it was a twitch meme because Oni was low tier in AE .So the "Oni is banned" is quite ironic since he was rarely seen in competitive play. Thats how I remember it starting out anyway.
 
i think there was also something to do with him and e.ryu being unlocked early on the arcade cabs and capcops coming down hard on it

no one ever thought he was op. the meme started because some idiot in a stream chat assumed he should be banned because he's hyped up to be this ultimate boss character and everyone made fun of the ignorance.

They weren't going to reveal 3 guys in a couple of weeks just cause of a convention, particularly not with the game still 6 months away. There's no information there. Conversely, why wasn't Ken delayed until NYCC?

If they have another american in the roster, they have plenty of other conventions to reveal him or her later.


Was watching the Snake Eyes match with Zangief, and man, he is just going through the motions. I love me some snake eyes, but there's still plenty to learn about V's Zangief. Almost no use of air grabs or v-skills to begin with.

Also, maaan, they removed the superman punch and put that weird jumping elbow? That's lame.

Isnt SDCC much bigger than NYCC?

I mean they revealed SFxT there, which was like an entirely new game.

I think there might be value on the argument that no NYCC reveal means no more american chars, but you gotta factor that the brasilean and russian events that Laura and Zangief were revealed at were by coincidence, close to nycc, and they just weren't going to reveal char after char just because of convention timing. Dunno how many other big brasilean and russian conferences there are as alternatives for Laura and Zangief's reveal.

Still think that, going by SF2 hopefuls, Guile is far more factible than Boxer.

The whole XXXX is banned thing is an ongoing FGC meme... the latest one the last couple months was X-Rays are banned in MKX. The first month of MKX the testers were supposed to be banned.

The only real bans that comes to mind are Kokonoe in BlazBlue and certain MKX variations that land up broken when they patch the game.

How many characters are left to be revealed?

Haven't played fighting games seriously since UMvC3 but will def bring out the fightstick for some SF5, time to shake off all the fighting game rust. Hopefully it hooks me unlike ugly ass SF4. Ken and Cammy look dope af, especially Cammy with that pre-order costume.

Although the game hasn't been released and characters are still in development, are there any characters seem to be real good compared to others as of now?

This leaves Fei Long and Sagat. Given that Bison no longer really has a specific nationality, we're actually missing a Thai rep at this point, out of the original SF2 countries. And in the "iconic characters you'd expect to see in a SF game", Sagat certainly fits the bill, having been in the original cast of SF2 (boss), SFA AND SF4.

Fei's certainly possible as well though. Karin's new moveset seems clearly designed to differentiate her from his play style. But looking at the info we have and using deductive reasoning, I definitely think we're most likely to see Sagat in Paris.

That was me. I didn't consider Sagat because SF really likes symmetrical grouping. Look at SSF4: (or even vanilla arcade SF4.)

Actually this meme started because oni and evil ryu were secret time released characters in the arcade. Oni was unlocked early by accident, capcom cried foul and he was not allowed to be shown on streams etc even though people knew he existed. But people would see him on the character select screen unlocked early and say hey oni is banned. Thus a new meme was born.

Anyway thats how I remember it.

On the subject of Alex I hope he's not gonna be like karin and Mika were for the life of Sf4 and cross tekken. People cried for these two characters only to be met with excuses of why they couldn't be put in the game.

If thats the case see you in sf6.

Of course this is just a worst case scenario.

No one played Oni because he was weird and he was ass, even more so than Evil Ryu. He's a boss character and he looks "badass" so when people asked in the chat why no one picked him the meme was born. As far as i remember.

In case anyone is interested, this article is condradictory with the previous one regarding the free USFIV "horror costumes" and doesn't mention any limitation as to the number of alts beta players will get. The previous one stated one "pack" would be free, this one implies all costumes will be. Wonder which one is true....

It has something to do with that. It started in offcasts's chat. I believe that is when he first started streaming. At least that's how I remember it.

8.95 was the cost of the HD stream of some major tournament. For some reason I'm thinking Canada Cup but I'm not totally sure.

Oro may be one of the most boring SF character ever designed gameplay Wise and IMO.

His gameplan in 3.3 is : Zoning, try to catch the opponent with cl.mp and then juggle him for 15 seconds xx repeat...

I hate this match up. I am not sure he is Worth bringing back.
