Is it just me or is there precious little hype for Assassin's Creed: Syndicate?

I'm hyped for it personally even after the complete failure of Unity (both story and glitches)

However saying that, Ubisoft made a massive mistake
killing Desmond. It's the same mistake that killed resistance killing the main character prematurely fucked it

It looks so boring. Basically it's unity 2.0. They really need to start diversifying their locations. Who tf wants to play in England during the 1800s or whatever the year range is?

I do and have done since the first game. The industrial revolution is a major point in history and London was the most unique city in the western world at that time.

I'm hyped for this game, I've completed all the games thus far (bar Rogue) and the London setting is one I can't wait to explore.

After this setting I'd like to see New York during the prohibition and then a future Tokyo.

I'm really exited for it. Though this could be for 2 reasons:

1) Victorian London is the one setting I always wanted for AC

2) I must have gotten lucky with Unity because I had no issues. Well, OK not true. I had a little bit of a lag in the game at one point in an early mission but nothing that bothered me.

To be honest though even though I'm looking forward to it, I only knew it was out next week because of the countdown on my preorders on the GAME app. Definitely noticed that there's less hype for this one.

I usually enjoy AC games Black Flag being my favorite and I find the Victorian London especially interesting setting, but it's hard for me to get excited for this. I got tired of Unity around midway point and never returned to it since. I might check Syndicate out though if it gets good reviews and impressions.

I'd be sad to see this series die to be honest, but they NEED to do something different, and giving us rope launchers and brawling (horrible idea) isn't going to cut it.

Sadly that's just not going to happen if they keep the series annualized like it is.

The series doesn't have to go out like this, I believe if Ubi would just take time between each game to make every new AC something special the series could take off again.

I do, I love the setting and time period, in fact it's exactly what I want and wish it got used more in games. However, just like with pirates in Black Flag, it's not enough to get me to overlook the fact that it's part of a franchise I can't stand.

The story went to hell once Desmond was gone. All of the games so far (Exclusing BF) have been so bad and the story is a clusterfuck, so not a lot of people understand what the hell is going on. Ubi fucked up bad.

I used to like AC, but I don't like the direction the series has gone after AC3. Last good game is Brotherhood as far as I'm concerned.

Black Flag was a bad game. Checklist menu tied to button and the most tail missions I've ever suffered through on top of the "Abstergo=Ubisoft #getit?" nonsense.

I loved Black Flag, but I was pretty disappointed in the story. The last game which I felt had a good story and gameplay was Brotherhood for me.

Wait the game comes out next week? Really? Oh man, yeah the hype is pretty low for this one. I actually enjoyed Unity a few months after it released, the co-op missions were fun and the city was pretty impressive.

For as much flak as the series gets I'll likely pick this up on the cheap some time after launch. Does this one have co-op too?

This year will be good for my wallet. I'm skipping Syndicate (because Unity just killed my passion for Assassin's Creed) and Black Ops 3 (I hated BLOPS2 and I despise their zombie modes). Plus Battlefront and Rainbow Six Siege don't have single player modes - automatic pass. I think Titanfall is the first time I've ever played a game without a single player but I don't see Battlefront or Rainbow Six interesting me enough.

They took out the Star Wars single player mode that was in the beta?

I've stuck with all of the mainline series and for me Unity is the first one I never got around to actually finishing. Played on PC at launch and it was a chore to get it running. Going to take a wait and see approach for this one and see what the impressions are and then might pick it up on sale later on.

For me it's still he same answer from the last thread.
They lost me when they killed Desmond, and also because not too long ago I went back and played the PoP games again, and I realized how those games are basically Assassin's Creed, but fun and really well made.

The thing of this series being so hell bent on always remedying their problems, but never fixing it, of always adding more, but never improving the good things (probably because that won't let them put more bullet points on the back of the box), and that they just don't accept changes (despite them trying it and making what's considered by many the best game in the series, let's dump it), all of that just puts me off from the series so much.

AC Syndicate to me is quite the proof of that. The "parkour" is terrible and not very responsive? Put a grappling hook, don't make the controls good, don't give the players manual control for platforming, just let them skip it entirely. The combat is shit? Put prettier animations. Stealth sucks? Make your character go invisible if you stand still, but whatever happens, we can't hire a level designer...

I've reached the point where the setting won't sell me on the game anymore. If I want to play something on feudal Japan I'll just go play Tenchu or Way of the Samurai or something, because AC in that setting is probably going to be trash anyway.

Sadly only Black Flag got my interest up because of the pirate gameplay. In my eyes the cow that was AC is shooting dust out of it's udders it's been milked so hard.

The settings are amazing, but the game set in them is bankrupt.

I fell off the wagon after AC4 when I realized the only fun part of the game was the sailing and island hopping. They need to do more to freshen up the series. Even if unity wasn't a bugfest I doubt I'd been interested in it.

Ubi really needs to alternate it's Assassin's Creed and Assassin's Creed-esque games on a 3 year cycle like Activision does with CoD and EA does with its shooters.

It could go something like this:

Year A: Urban Assassin's Creed

Year B: Naval Assassin's Creed

Year C: Watch Dogs

There's a ton of potential with the series but too much is happening at once with so little effort put into it. It's like the game was made by an assembly line.

But most importantly, ditch the checklist design format. People are catching on and starting to hate it. GTAV and Witcher 3 were so successful not because they were open worlds but because the worlds' content felt meaningful and quests felt good to do.

I pre-ordered it for PC. GOG sent me a 35% off coupon making it a flat $39. Coming out later than consoles this year, but I've got other stuff to play.

I think Ubisoft made a mistake by pretty much ditching almost any connection between the individual titles. With AC 1-3 you had Desmond's story evolving with each title. Now it's just always back to zero with every new game and I'm pretty sure that I'll have no trouble keeping up with the story if I skip this one.

My hype for AC games is completely gone after getting burned so hard last year. I might still get the game a couple of months in, but there's no way I'll preorder it.

I also really loved the present story with Desmond. Removing that was a big mistake IMO.

Wait this is coming out next week? Well i stopped after Brotherhood and a good thing though that to me with the multiplayer was the most amazing thing i played in a long time. The Multiplayer made it feel fresh and different you had to be a real assassin not that i was the best player but oh boy seeing those idiots run around like fools and kill them instantly was so satisfying.

Kind of like what the GB crew said this last week, Ubi should turn their attention to fleshing out Watch Dogs (which they probably are), as there's more there to play around with these days.

I actually enjoyed Unity its performance sucked but I liked the Characters and the setting, it was a relief after Blackflag as it was more of an AC game and not just the sailing from ACIII with a few real missions and it had a build up and an end, Blackflag just ended when it was just getting interesting although with Blackflag I enjoy what was there it was just obvious it was rushed for nextgen launch, the only thing it did better then previous AC games was run well.
ACS I'm not too keen on the combat and gangs stuff, I'm still gonna give it a try but I still have Unity and the DLC for it to complete so I'm in no rush.

Us on GAF are generally about as "hardcore" into the hobby as they come, so seeing how many of us are surprised by it's imminent release is telling.

If Ubi doesn't switch off the annual release schedule after this year, the series will be dead and gone by 2017. I'll bet on it.

I never understood all the love that Black Flag got since release.

Sure the boat stuff was kinda fun and new but the moment you stepped off the ship it was back to same old shitty AC mission design with endless number of insta-fail tailing missions and maps filled to the brim with icons.

I hope so OP. All things come to an end eventually assassin's creed had insane potential as a franchise and evolved slightly ever since the first game on top of that it was milked to death so yeah hope this is the final one although I doubt it.

Are you enjoying it more than Unity? I did enjoy Unity, by the way. I am just plain old burnt out on the series for now.

Yes. Also better system performance and pacing right out the gate. People should be happy for the duel characters stuff, it's nice. Also they nail the setting, but that'd usually par for the course.

I watched the PSN trailer and it didn't sync. I didn't care for the problem. It was like..."There's some something going on, here is the Victorian Era, isn't it nice? Now let's talk some more and play some hipster music that doesn't even sound like it came from the Victorian era. Cue everyone looking down and up.. title screen".

"Assassin's Creed: Syndicate"

I'm not feeling it to be honest. It would be neat if I got it, but to me the premise isn't there. It doesn't feel like there is an Animus or anything to show off.

I tried getting myself into Unity, even bought the poster, played it for an hour or so, noticed how Ubisoft locked you out of some chests, and then never returned to it.

I don't know how they keep thinking up these ideas without thinking about who is actually going to care for everything in this game.

At least this was interesting:

640

I always get AC for my SO because she loves the series. .I think I will wait until Black Friday so it will be like 40 or so. I've been buying most of my games digitally but I don't know how I feel about buying AC without being able to return it. . it hurts my head.

I just can't do another. Unity was a huge disappointment. I need another character as endearing as ezio and a better story. I'm also sick of the chit chats right after you kill someone. Takes me out of the game.

They never explained how that happens, did they? Especially confusing if the main character gets important information from the dead person.

Interesting. I may give it a go at some point, in hopes that I will be pleasantly surprised.

Syndicate? So that's the subtitle. Launches next week? As in on the 20th?

The hype has not reached this side of town apparently.

They should have kept the series in the Middle-East/Mediterranean and expanded to Asia and Africa.

Revolutionary era America and France, and now a tired Victorian theme, have completely derailed the series.

There's no intrigue or mystery anymore now that Desmond's subplot has been ejected, and the recent settings are not interesting or exotic enough, other than Black Flag.

How have I never thought of this?! That would be amazing.

But I don't think it would work considering how small the towns would be.

Unless it was a small $20 title.

They could always divide it into regions like Rogue did. Stuff like Texas, California, Nevada, various parts of the deep South, New England. I'd be a fan for sure.

I think the Animus is recreating the events that transpired, but sort of "filling in" the details. So you aren't 100% recreating the kill, and in the actual kill the character was able to have some time to hear the character talk. That's how I always interpreted, probably put more thought into than Ubisoft did, haha.

The only thing that motivated me to play AC was the future timeline and Desmond story. After the AC3 fiasco and terrible conclusion to that story I started to feel less inclined to play it. AC: Black Flag actually made a very good following to Desmond story which was later completely ignored on AC: Unity (which was also a terrible game with a terrible story that I still have no idea what happened). Since then my interest in the AC franchise has gone down to 0.

The first is the only one I've played. I never bought the second because the first was so repetitive. I can't believe there have been so many now and that people keep playing them.
