Halo 5 - Its been a long time since I've been this hyped for a game.

Halo 4's Covenat move very rigidly and their AI isn't very... well, intelligent. Weren't fun at all.

I hear the AI has been improved in H5 but i dunno. Not optimistic about that after H4.
In addition to that, there are MAJOR readability issues, even worse than there are with Prometheans. Elite tiers and the weapons they're holding are really hard to tell apart and everything makes the same hissing sound, which becomes downright cacophonous when there are enough of them around, so good luck figuring out which of those hisses is supposed to signify that there's a suicidal Grunt right behind you.

Thankfully, at least the audio mess was fixed in 5. Everything sounds so much clearer, it's hard to believe that the same person is in charge.

I haven't really been keeping up with all the details on the game, but I've read some stuff that completely kills the hype for me, and I'm a diehard SP Halo fan (finished every game on legendary multiple times).

Is it true that
Master Chief is never alone, but always accompanied by AI bots?
Perhaps the best part of Halo for me has been the
atmosphere of lonliness and isolation. If I'm constantly gonna have an entourage of AI characters spouting one liners around me, I'm out.

Yes. You will always have three AIs with you.

I'd lie if I said I wasn't at least excited, but I learned to not hype myself up anymore.

From the looks of it, it's probably a lot of fun, but I'll reserve judgement until I played through the campaign.

I couldn't help myself and start laughing when she said "Someone has betrayed the rest of the Halo's" lol :D

Halo 5: Guardians |OT| Someone has betrayed the rest of the Halo's!

I don't know if I belong with Halo Gaf, but I was a massive fan of the early Halo games, the first three in particular. I'm very impressed with how Halo 5 looks from what I saw on Giantbombs stream and can't believe how much is happening on screen while maintaining 60fps, but no splitscreen means I'll wait some time before getting it. It just won't be the same without it.

I just saw a trailer on TV and I'm not feeling it this time. Halo 3 literally made me go out and buy a second 360 after selling my original but I don't think the series is for me anymore. Halo 4 came out at a time where I was solely on PC so the marketing just went straight over my head and I've never played it, and this just feels so far removed from what appealed to me with the original trilogy with a story that's just jumped the shark with its characters.

The new character Locke also does nothing for me.

But, whatever. It's fun to be hyped. I think it only really happens to me maybe once a year, probably less. Genuine excitement for a new anything is great, and I'll be the same when P5 is imminent.

As I get older I find it harder to get truly hyped for things. I'm younger than you are OP so I'm sure you know the feeling!

So, enjoy the hype and I hope the game exceeds your expectations!

Yeah I think this Halo has potential to be incredible. I had some apprehensions about Halo 4 and it seems that feeling was somewhat justified. I have a lot of confidence in this mostly because the beta was awesome 10 months ago.

You're guess is correct. I've played half the game now and the atmosphere I love so much in Bungie's games is absent (at least in the first few missions). I think most people will love the game, but this is a different kind of Halo experience. There is something special about those Bungie games that no other game has quite captured.

Still excited to play through the entire game. The core mechanics seem extremely well made.

We already know that Bungie > 343 but the thing is, is 343 can make a decent sequel to Halo ? the universe is already here, the lore is already here, 343i just has to make a perfect sequel, they failed with Halo 4 and now it's the time to prove that Halo is in good hand, if Halo 5 isn't that great, well MS is in trouble.

I'm sure the game will be better than Halo 4 though from what I've seen, the warzone looks exiting too, we'll see how it goes with the entire game.

I get like this for every fucking halo game. It happened for reach, ODST, 4, and 3, I convince myself I don't need it at first but i know I'm gonna go out and buy an XB1 to play the new Halo and I'm gonna do it to play Halo 5.
Same way due to halo 1 & 2
But then I buy it and play it for like a week and that's it, then I hate myself for doing that.

Just goes to show the impact halo 1 & 2 had

Yes. Hype reaches Halo 3 levels for me. The marketing is not comparable to Halo 3's, but the rest hits the right nerves. Gameplay felt incredible good in the beta and I have no clue what I can expect from the story.

343i did so many improvements. The art direction is much better and multiplayer looks great. I feared that the AI won't be that challenging because of the campaign gameplay in mid-September, but people saying it still is a challenge on Heroic and completely different on Legendary.

Looks like a fun little game! It's not real Halo, of course, but for a 343 game it looks relatively competent.

It will sell a respectful amount of copies, just don't expect a gold medal haha.

This is actually the first Halo game(other than the original) that I'm not getting at midnight launch. I think 4 and MCC have kinda damaged the series hype for me.

I'm hyped because everyone else is!

But really can't wait. I'm trying to knock out a sizable backlog of shorter games before it comes out so that's alleviating the wait a bit.

I love these kind of comments, backhanded disingenuous, and condescending all at the same time, it's actually quite impressive.

Wow aren't you full or yourself. Without having played you already dismiss the work of hundreds of peoples that poured years of their life and their passion into a project.

I'd be more impressed if it wasn't for requiring an edit.

lol this game is going to make bank. There is no competition for the rest of the year and there hasnt been a rekease on this scale since Halo 3.

Hunt the truth is really feeding the hype for me. I hope they continue it somehow even after release.

I'm in the same boat OP... I've got a wife, demanding job and newborn, but I feel like a high schooler all over again waiting for Halo...

Haven't felt like this since Halo2

I'm really looking forward to it myself, so I hate to be that guy but:

Don't work yourself up into a frenzy over any game. There will be no way it can it can live up to the heavy expectations you set for it and you will only have yourself to blame.

Saying that I've already preloaded and I'm counting the days so who am I to talk.

I've been a fan of the series since I got an Xbox with Halo CE at launch, but I don't feel much hype for Halo 5. They've got about five years of bad work to undo with this game. I liked Reach's campaign a lot, but that's where the multiplayer really started going downhill. Then just about everything 343 did with Halo 4 put me off from playing it entirely (especially since everyone I knew either hated it or didn't care about it), but I finally went through it earlier this year. I'd probably give that game's campaign a 5/10, and the multiplayer isn't much better. And of course the MCC was a complete trainwreck that they're still patching, a year after release.

I wish I could get hyped, honestly. The trailers look nice and the beta was fun, but it's just hard to care about a series that's been mediocre for so long.

Lol so you enjoyed playing the game a year ago but it being what you consider bad in the past makes it less exciting? Who cares about the past you've played the game.

Very hyped! Story-wise, 343 have been hitting the right notes in dealing with The Forerunners and now adding Blue Team in the mix. Really looking forward to commanding a squad and where the encounter with Osiris leads. Kinda lucked out that Halo comes out during school half-term, as I'm already off work to look after my daughter, who'll be going to gymnastics for 2 hours a day 😎

Was really hyped but the announcement of no data centre selection really put a dampener on my hype. I've heard all the explanations for why, but still. I'm bummed.

The most important part though. If arena gameplay is good then the game is good. Everything else is gravy for me.

Debatable and I disagree about the beta being good. The base game obviously needs a strong core, but if everything else around it falters then it wont matter. iconoclast's comments are justified given the state of the franchise. This game is make or break for the series I'd say, and we can't base that off of anything until we've played the whole thing for a bit.

I'm on the fence only because what I don't want to see happen story wise will probably be happening. Really don't want to see Locke and Chief buddy up.

How did you manage to play 1-3 and Reach where most of those games had AI grunts that did the exact same thing to you?

I enjoyed the beta, but I am still incredibly cautious about this. My hype is at a 6, leaning to 7 on the 10 scale.

I just want 343 to release a fun game with working online. If this happens, and I can play online without a hitch then I will give 343 the benefit of doubt for the next Halo game they do.

I'm excited for the story, warzone, and eventually forge and BTB but I'm a bit deflated by the whole "esports/arena" focus but that's because I personally don't enjoy competitive gameplay and prefer messing around with friends in stuff like firefight, custom games and big maps and vehicles etc.

can still wreck people in arena gameplay though

It's a bit forced I agree, but Halo was a pioneer of the scene at one point and it's also been absent for 5 years. I'd rather they focus on it than ignore it, and you'd think with this unprecedented amount of support that the competitive players would be all over it. Bungie rarely threw the competitive community a bone, but many competitive Halo players still can't see passed Sprint bring in the game nonetheless.

I've always respected 343 for how Halo 4 turned out. Say what you will about the overall package, but for the 4th entry in a multi million dollar series that was being made while their studio was being built, Halo 4 is a great game.

Furthermore, I don't care about Bungies Halo anymore. Yeah, the games were great, but they are gone now, simple as that. I could sit here and waste time complaining about everything 343 changes like some people do, or I could accept that fact that they are their own studio, and the Halo's they make are with their own voice, not bungies. As an artist, I respect that.

So when your talking about Halo 5, while it might be another entry in a previously beloved series to many, to me it's the first time 343 is coming out and saying "This is what we can do, this is our HALO."

I don't wanna feel like I'm playing bungies halo. I have 5 games and an anthology collection for that.

So I'm more excited than ever, really.

It has surpassed halo 3 level for me, thanks to Hunt the Truth.
Cant wait for next Tuesday, will play on Legendary from morning to the night.

Bungie's Halo was more subtle and nuanced and they still have a way with game making that few developers can match. But I think 343 can make a good Halo game, and I haven't seen much this year to say Halo 5 wont be.

You know what was subtle and full of nuance? Armor lock.

And Bungie has made plenty of abhorrent decisions with Destiny trust me. They are no longer the company that can do no wrong.

I've somehow avoided the worst pangs of anticipation. I'm enjoying Transformers: Devastation and trying not to even think about how soon Halo 5 is coming.

Bungie's Halo is characterized by excellent design across the board, and gameplay that just feels right. Halo 4's myriad problems could be pretty well summarized by saying the game wasn't enough like Bungie's Halo.
