If they keep cutting the price of the XB1, sure it will get a boost but in the long run they are just devaluing the console. People will just say why buy it now when it'll be cheaper next year.
Sure one or two people will figure out there's some pattern, but most won't see it. All they're gonna see is a next gen console which is $50 cheaper than the other next gen console.
That also means they won't be able to do price cuts when the droughts come in the middle of the gen while Sony can.
If Sony wins this Holiday then it's over for MS, they willl never win US. So these "price cuts when the droughts come in the middle" means nothing to MS if it's not gonna help them beat PS4.
I just can see MS keep lowering the price when their R&D or BOH aren't going down like Sony's.
Or just do what they usually do, sell hardware at loss and make profits from selling software. I mean MS strategy in US seems to be prioritizing higher install base against making profits in hardware.
A console doesn't need to be in "first place" to be relevant. The Xbox One can cruise in a comfy second behind the PS4 and still be profitable and relevant.
Relevant for MS = #1 in US.
