Transformers: Devastation |OT| Rising in Disguise

Speaking of Bee, I never knew how much kids dislike his tiny car form. My Lil bro and cousin call his alt mode in this game Mr.Bean's car.

I never really liked Bumblebee (though I'm using him in this game cause he's strong). He had the silliest voice in the French dub, but I've always loved his car form. It was originally an oldschool Volkswagen Beetle. At least it looked 99% similar. You can't beat that. I suppose they've had to change it for this game to avoid any litigation.

... Not like VW would have the time or money to sue them right now, mind you.

They got the official vehicle licenses for the masterpiece figures (Sideswipe is a lamborghini countach, Bumblebee is a Vw Beetle etc). I'm guessing they either didn't want to pay for them for this game or they maybe felt those old cars aren't relative enough for a game that's probably supposed to sell more Combiner Wars figures.

I don't think it was about combiner wars. The fact that they all have MP figures stood out for me more.

There's something about this style of game which is so addictive to me. The whole new game plus thing. I love the weapon drop system, too. Finally got a major upgrade over my level 26 A rated sword. Actually got 2 S weapons running through Chapter 7 on Commander. The variety of ranged weapons and how they affect the gameplay is fantastic.

So now I'm most of the way through Chapter 1 on Magnus and the game just gets more and more fun. I do find myself using the same 3-4 moves/techniques, but who cares? I'm having a blast.

I've upgraded one SS sword to level 50, and it maxed out at 4K damage -- did I just poorly synthesize?

What's the name of your sword? As far as I can tell, max theoretical DPS depends not just on the weapon type (e.g. sword, twin swords, hammer...), but the rarity of the weapon.

In other words, for hammers, that insane Forge of Solus Prime that someone posted earlier will always have way more DPS than other hammers because it's rare/unique. Same goes for the Devastator Drills I posted vs. regular gloves, Star Sabers vs. regular swords, etc. My maxed out SS Star Saber does around 8k DPS, by the way.

Anything that looks cool and/or has a cool/unique name or is named after a character is more likely to be powerful compared to your average burn sword or cryo hammer.

There is, however, no difference in base DPS between two identical weapons at the same level and rank. I'm not even sure rank makes a difference actually. It only allows you to go higher because of the higher level cap. All lvl 5 burn swords will do the same amount of damage, unless one has Defect as one of its attributes (lol bad luck). But even that can be fixed through synthesis by replacing Defect with another attribute.

is there a devastation wiki out there somewhere? I want to know wtf rust does, or whether all attacks inherently have knockback or if it only procs on hammers, etc.

Time to see how my work Mac runs this game. It's so well optimized that I'd be surprised if it struggled at all.

i know it's (probably?) a second tier platinum product but by god the menu design is so non-functional at a certain point. Never mind the urgent need for multi-sell or multi-synth, but what about stuff like showing the abilities of the item you're upgrading while you search for more abilities, or sorting BY abilities, or letting me see what abilities do without having to overload a weapon with abilities?

Yeah, it's bad. Everything about the menus are un-intuitive. Why can't I sell and synth from the same menu?

Game needs a sequel not just to get more bad ass car-to-face action, but also to fix the plethora of problems it has.

I really love how the combat feels like the hotrod vs galvatron fight in the 1986 movie, switching between robot and car mode.

I like the music in the game and all, but this particular song I feel would be perfect for it.

I would love it if they implemented some sort of filter by skills for weapons and tech. It can be a real chore when you're looking for a certain skill you want to put on your good weapon or a specific tech you want to equip.

Unrelated to quoted posts...the Photon Eliminator looks very similar to the gun that my Hot Rod/Rodimus toy came with. I just...wonder if anyone else thought that.

edit: Oh, well I guess that's that.

god i love the transformers wiki

I tend to get bored of the humor real quickly though.

Got my first S Rank weapon (Devastator's Drills) from beating Devastator the 2nd time in Commander mode. So much more damage :)

Is the S Ranks max level 50 (SS is already max)?

Since you guys brought up hammers: I just noticed in one of the in-game tips that the Freeze status effect doubles the damage your hammer inflicts. Been wondering what purpose getting enemies frozen had since functionally it acted almost identically to the others. Guess that also explains why the Freeze and Cryo weapon skills are so rare to come by compared to Burn and Shock, at least on my file.

And for that matter: Wheeljack can also Freeze Devastator / Menasor with his Ultimate, funnily enough.

Rust lowers defense, if I recall correctly.

The description for some of the episodes defies belief

The Combaticons enter an unidentified city for no discernible reason, then all transform to vehicle mode for no discernible reason. They then drive (yes, even the flyers drive) about ten feet down the street and form Bruticus for no discernible reason. He is immediately destroyed with a single shot by Defensor (who's there for no discernible reason). Defensor just leaves the pile of parts alone and unsupervised, apparently not bothering to alert the other Autobots or anything. This enables Swindle—who has somehow survived without a scratch the explosion that reduced all the other Combaticons to a pile of parts—to gather up the bits. No human authorities are involved either.

Swindle then visits the generically evil foreign guy "El Presidente" on his ship filled with weapons in order to buy parts to repair the Combaticons.

Notes
Animation and/or technical glitches

  • Argh.
  • When the Combaticons transform, Onslaught doesn't have a cab (making him look more like a giant tank).
  • The scenery in this episode is always huge. In the opening scene, the five Combaticons are driving down a downtown street in a row (yes, even the fliers are driving on the ground) with plenty of room. Humans are drawn tiny compared to the doors of their own buildings, and the Autobots fit easily inside human structures.
  • The Bruticus scrap pile changes between shots; first it's a few scattered parts on the street, then it's a solid pile of them.
  • Swindle pops out of the junk pile from beneath a yellow rectangle with wheels. The only yellow component on Bruticus is... Swindle.
  • There is no indication as to what jet-mode Starscream uses to capture jeep-mode Swindle.
  • When Elise says "Maybe I wired the box in wrong." one of her legs is drawn way too short, almost as if she's missing her right thigh.

Continuity errors
  • Argh.
  • Swindle goes to El Presidente to buy parts to repair the other Combaticons. The next time we see them, he's sold the Combaticon parts - for what, we don't know. There is no explanation as to why he suddenly completely changed his plan.
  • Gears describes the high school as a "one-level structure", but it's pretty clearly two stories.
  • The kids don't seem to recognize what Transformers are, but by this point in the series, they're internationally recognized, there are holidays and tributes to them, etc. Despite this, they seem to instantly accept the existence of Transformers.

Other errors
  • Argh.

I'm annoyed you can't sell multiple items at the same time as well as fusing weapons. Because I just managed to get 50 weapons over the limit and now I have to sell them.

It's just a simple SS Burn Sword. I have a SS Grimlock's Sword & an SS Menasor's Ionizer Sword -- Would I have better results if I just synthesize the level 50 Burn Sword into the Grimlock Sword or Menasor's Sword? Would I end up with a much better sword by the cap? I can't tell where rarity is listed, beyond the first time you get a weapon.

Man, all of my SS drops are around 2K base damage -- how the fuck are you guys getting drops with 8K base damage, it's absurd.

Also, the incremental upgrades per level are minimal until you hit certain thresholds. I think it's every 10 levels or so that you get one huge boost. I know going from 29 to 30 on some S rank swords was much larger than 28 to 29 or 30 to 31 ever was.

Also, am I COMPLETELY INSANE or is the "new" tag on the weapon list sorta broken and not working as intended, because there are items that are new that aren't marked, items that aren't that ARE marked, and so on.

And yeah, that's after clearing the "new" tags from the last time I was in the menu. It's really weird.

Yes, try to make this and scope the stats. It'll be pretty rad.

Hope Platinum listens to some of the feedback about the menus and managing inventory so they can be reflected in Scalebound. For what it's worth I think it's ok, but those few improvements can make it better.

Went ahead and plugged my level 50 Burn Sword into my SS Level 10 Grimlock Sword -- instantly went to level 50 from 10 in one infusion, and the new sword has Total Attack Power of 8,654, with 2K physical, 6K thermal, fuck me off a bridge this thing is going to wreck shit.

i'd like to have an option to break down a weapon and save skills etc. i think that would've saved me the most time. and sell in bulk of course. TFD2, please!

Hell, I'd even take a DLC/expansion that both fixes a number of the annoying UI quirks, and gives us playable Decepticons.

I can't help but feel that the structure is all there, considering the 5 Autobots already have their own boss routines and the majority of the 'Cons already have what could be complete movesets. Main thing would just be giving Defensor and Superion their own patterns so that they could make for fun fights that Megatron and the crew to fight against. And maybe 1-4 more Autobots to better round out their side of the equation (at least Slag and Swoop, so poor Grimlock isn't so lonely!).

Just found out that Sideswipe can glide down to the ground ala Bayonetta 2 if you hold the jump button, no sure what use it has though.

Anyone can do that if you have the right TECH equipped. I'm not sure if that's an innate ability of Sideswipe, you sure you don't have some TECH equipped? :P

SS rank Menasors is pretty much 1:1 comparable to Grimlocks and are tied to stuff like Devastator's Drills where power is concerned. A step above those are the character specific ones. I have a set of Wrenches that, with one +10% attack boost, goes 14K+. Sadly my Primes unique Battle Blade is "only" 10K+ with the exacts same perks.

Yup.

Though, I don't know much about Infinite Space.
IS wasn't developed by Platinum.

Vanquish kind of had it, what with how upgrading weapons worked in that game. TLoK had it, but the loot was purely for fan-service and had no actual effect.

So yes, this is the first TRUE loot system

So the green cubes... they're supposed to heal me, right? They've stopped healing me since I defeated Devestator in the very beginning of the game and I'm on Ch. 4.

I wouldn't call Vanquish's weapon system loot. It was a weapon select and upgrade system, and not an inventory management based loot system.

Did you happen to equip a TECH piece with the 'all in' trait on it? If you did, you might want to read its description.

I honestly have no clue. To be fair, the inventory system in this game is one of the most unintuitive I've seen.

Combat is great, though.

Edit - is TECH even an item?

Anyone have any tips for SS ranking chapter 7 on Commander? The headshot strategy usually works, but I have trouble in the Seeker fights. The rest of the Autobots get too involved, so I don't really have time to get enough headshots in. Spamming rush attacks doesn't seem to work either - I usually top out at S when I try that.

I've cleared chapters 4, 5 and 6 a lot faster than 1, 2 and 3.

Seems it got easier but that probably is due to new weapons, status upgrades and TECH.

So guys, I have some questions, I hope you can help me:

  • What determines which stats level up and can I see what gives me experience?
  • The box says there's supposed to be an e-manual in the game, but I can't find it, have any of you?
  • I read that there are two stats for ranged damage: int+skl, but what stat is most important?

I think they could have done a better job explaining some of these things in the game...

Which reminds me: one way you can clearly see the developers had a limited time and budget is the Stunticons. When I saw a challenge called "Defeat the Stunticons" I got excited cause I thought they had kept Drag Strip, Dead End, Wildrider and Breakdown as a surprise for that mode, but no. It turns out it was just Motormaster + random soldiers, then Menasor. It would have been cool to be able to fight them. Oh well.

My rule of thumb is: do at least 10 car attacks (i.e. the X/Y attack you can do when you're at top speed and your character becomes blue and invincible) per battle. It can be tricky to get so many of these in one fight without dying, but I've found that I always get an SS rank when I do that. I know it's cheap, but whatever, I need me those stat buffs in Challenge mode!

For those playing this on PC, what's your controller preference? Having used the 360, XboxOne , Dual Shock 3 and 4... I find the DS3 to be the best of the bunch due to the placement of R1.

That's what I've been trying mostly. Seekers are problematic because I can't hit them with a rush attack (the attack you're describing) when they're in the air. If I shoot them enough to get them grounded, they usually can't survive enough rush attacks to build my score up.

I guess I'll try again.
