This is honestly my favorite shot from the teasers. I don't know if it's the color grading, or what, but it looks straight out of 70s films in general or the OT.

Reminds me of Ian McShane from Deadwood.

Fun for all the family!

Yeah but you dont see chopped up little kids on the floor. Its implied. The aunt and uncle scene, its also somewhat implied but you see their burning skeletons just laying on the ground. I was a little surprised to be honest. Didn't remember it.

We do see Anakin get burned alive in ROTS. I wonder if we will have something similar in these 3 movies.

He was just giving them some lightsaber lessons! Honest.

I know this has been discussed to exhaustion, but what a poor choice this little section was. Yeah, I know it's "man that shit's dark!" that Anakin takes out kids, but for Christ's sake we don't even see him take out trained Jedi in straight combat beyond Dooku, do we?
This was a missed opportunity to show Anakin's power by having him wax some real Jedi in the temple- instead he murders children. Man, it pisses me off how Lucas had one job with the prequels (Anakin's character) and he botched it, IMO. If the Clone Wars series didn't exist, Anakin would be a pure clown character. /endrant

does anyone have to stop every once in a while and say "holy crap, we're getting a NEW Star Wars movie, with the ORIGINAL CAST."

it isn't something i ever thought i'd see back in the 90s and 2000s when the prequels were out.

i was sure that if we ever got more star wars, it'd be even further into the past or further into the future

It really didn't hit me until I saw "Chewie, we're home". That hit me like a ton of bricks.

I still haven't processed it, to be honest. I've essentially been in shock ever since Disney announced they were making these films.

Going to the cinema to watch Star Wars: Episode 7 starring Mark Hammil, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford? Nope, can't deal with it. Too surreal.

Honestly didn't hit me until yesterday when I saw HARRISON FORD MARK HAMILL CARRIE FISHER on the poster. Then it hit me like a ton of bricks.

Hopefully the football game goes by quickly so we get to half time early. I can't imagine what Star Wars fans will do if there is a shit ton of timeouts and replay challenges.

Maybe this makes me an asshole, but I liked it because it was messed up and I wanted something like that from it. Yeah, I'm pretty blatant about that and the scene was pretty blatant, but it is what it is.

I'll go one step further and say Disney NEVER does this with the sole exception of the core disney properties (i.e. their longest and most traditional sources of revenue. Mickey, princesses, etc). Bob Iger doesn't get enough credit as probably one of the single best CEOs Disney has ever had post-Walt.

Bought Pixar. Left Pixar alone with the exception of putting Lassetter in charge of ALL Disney Animation.

Bought Marvel. Left Marvel alone for EVERYTHING (comics and movies).

Bought Lucasfilm. Left them alone. Lucasfilm still (IIRC) operates in Marin county (Pixar still operates at their original campus, etc)

This is not Eisner-led Disney. This is "we have enough money to buy these incredibly successful companies. Let's do that and leave them alone!!!" Disney. Not everything is a hit.. but it's up to these companies to sink or swim on their own accord, without some power-mad CEO trying to figure out how to fuck stuff up.

This reminds me of how nice it was to actually see more moments of kids learning to be Jedi in the Clone Wars series. There is a fantastic episode with a group of children searching for crystals to build their first lightsaber. It sounds like a recipe for disaster to have an episode focused on young children, but their search harkens back to mystery and moral test of the the cave in The Empire Strikes Back while having a more optimistic flavor.

And then there's the bittersweet moment you realize all of the kids are gonna get murdered. Ouch.

The two Clone Wars cartoons really are the best things (Some would say the only good things) to come out of the prequel movies.

Does anyone have a link explaining where this new evil empire popped up from ?

The republic doesn't encompass the entire galaxy, they can't police it either. Remnants of of the old Empire it sounds rebuilds and creates a new military lead force that it looks is invading planets.

There is no "rebellion", it's a resistance as fighters on these planets being invaded are fighting against this military junta. Most likely like the old republic, planets were left to govern and protect themselves, they didn't have a republic military that encompassed and controlled the galaxy. Resistance is likely part of the new republic allying with these invaded planets to try and fight the First Order. The republic is a demilitarized government, any militaries under the republic belong to the self governing planets, the republic does not actually control planets like the Empire did and held with a military. Like in the prequels, the jedi were the peace keepers, the police in a way of the republic, but the republic had no standing military.
