when the Liberals were down in 3rd place at the start of the campaign, I told Canada GAF that Justin Trudeau would be out next Prime Minister.

I was laughed at by the NDP intelligentsia

then when things started to turn, Canada GAF said "gutter is gonna make us Eat Crow"

and today... is that day

Come on, time to fess up. You're a time traveller, aren't you?

Awesome. Grats, man.

No, you're under exaggerating it. It's been bad. From the conservatives devaluing of the environment, social services and science, the erosion is quite real and quite disgusting.

But this does NOT affect the life of the average Joe Six Pack. That's my point. This is internet overreaction.

They had 29 seats in 2006.
They also were running against the worst Liberal leader in modern history.

Now the Liberals are back to "Canada's natural governing party" status, with a Trudeau at the helm no less. There's no way the NDP come back from this.

Liberals have been declared elected in Gaspésie--Les Îles-de-la-Madeleine.
St. John's East and Fundy Royal remain undeclared in the Maritimes.

The NDP will never be seen as the alternative to the Liberals, they were the alternative to the Tories. If they can't rise to power out of a Tory failure, they'll never do it when the Liberals fall out of favour how many years from now.

The NDP is in free-fall.

What possible way does the NDP come back from this? I just don't see it at all.
Definitely life-death situation for the NDP right now. They really need to make the right choices going forward. I knew those Quebec seats would be flimsy. that's why I was sad when the new NDP was concentrating so hard on Quebec and not on their loyal seats like Hamilton, Winnipeg, Vancouver etc.

As an Aussie, who are the people who are analogous to figures in Australian politics from Canadian politics.
All I know is that the Canadian equivalent of Tony Abbott is Harper? (I think) and that he's in the process of being ousted. Are the liberals essentially the same as the labor party over here?
