Transformers: Devastation |OT| Rising in Disguise

I suck so hard in Platinum games. Barely finished the second chapter after dying thousand times (mid. difficulty). But still, the game is fun and nonstopaction and I really like the OST.

The chapter 2 boss is one of the hardest parts of the game for my money. It'll be smooth sailing for a while after that.

Just SS'd chapter 7 on commander. I got 3 S ranks out of 11 total, but the bonuses must have put me over the top. I was so nervous when the results screen was loading lol

That's what I've been trying mostly. Seekers are problematic because I can't hit them with a rush attack (the attack you're describing) when they're in the air. If I shoot them enough to get them grounded, they usually can't survive enough rush attacks to build my score up.

I guess I'll try again.

I getcha. Someone earlier posted a Bumblebee video where the guy managed to do a jumping upper consistently - using X, I assume -, allowing him to hit airborne seekers, but I don't know how he does it. Anyone know what the command is for that?

[EDIT] Do you get anything special for finishing the game on Prime difficulty? Cause it doesn't seem like it, but I might have missed it.

Some tidbits:

- Loading up a weapon with several lvl 4 or 5 AltSpd+ lets you do instant rush attacks like Grimlock. (Your top speed doesn't increase, only your acceleration.) Super useful for dealing with shield guys, and it makes your alt mode feel really snappy like Bayonetta's panther form. Just enhance a grapple gun or speakers, something with a function besides raw damage, and you can always have insta-rush attacks as passive bonus.

- The credit limit isn't 9,999,999; I just passed it. It's most likely 99 mil instead, which is nice because this means you'll never have to worry about missing out on the profits when you're selling loads of S-ranked items at once. Grind away!

- Grimlock gets instant vehicle attacks off his dino mode back forward +Y (the command shove attack). Doesn't even have to hit and you'll still get the blue flash, lol.

-Use Soundwave's speaker and the grapple gun to unlock Ninja Babby Mode and make all non-combiner bosses cry. The speaker also pairs well with a Photon Disruptor (and probably any spreadshot with a stun effect). You can chain a series of shotty blasts -> vehicle attacks together for hilarious combo madness. Apart from looking cool, it stunlocks enemies. Good for the Magnus and Prime difficulties, where you can get overwhelmed fast.

More later, probably.

Are weapon attributes actually active at all time, or only when you're using the weapon? Like, does Attack Speed on one weapon increase the attack speed of your other weapons as well?

As far as I can tell, it depends on whether the attribute is general or weapon specific. Attributes like AltSpd+ and (probably) the one that increases focus time always apply, because they affect an innate character trait. Stuff like Atk+ and Overdrive+ (which is hit based if you read the description) appears to work only on the weapon it's actually applied to.

It's the classic stylish action game convention: during any uppercut-style attack, hold the button to do a jumping version. Works that way with Optimus, anyway.

Some challenges maybe? I haven't complete Prime yet.

Is there a crow spear or red hot kick hidden in here somewhere too? Would really help with seekers (although the auto-tracking transform attacks are pretty great in that regard)

Maybe I'll try and shoot some pics of my toy weapons because many of the weapons in-game are based off those. I think it's very cool.

I'm still playing MGS V from time to time to 100% the game and I have finished Hearts of Stone, The Witcher 3 expansion. I don't know what to buy next, Transformers, Tales of Zesteria or Dragon Quest Heroes, I love action games and Platinum games, but I think Transformers is a bit pricey, what do you think guys?

Devastation is easily worth the asking price if you like your action games deep and highly replayable. The loot and tech systems open up countless options for different play styles. You can be a tank or a glass cannon, depend mostly on status and elemental effects, use only ranged or only melee weapons, take the shotty sniper approach where two of your weapons excel at range (you can get monstrous headshot bonuses with the right enhancements) and the other two wreck anything up close... There's so much, even if you don't account for the variations between playable characters. And the challenges ensure you never have to play through a long section of the campaign just to get to a fun fight.

For me, Platinum character action games are one of the few games out there worth full asking price for me. Unlike Korra, it's a full-fledged title, despite the limited budget (they spent it where it counts). I have nearly 30 hrs invested, and I'm still doing the challenges and having a ton of fun.

Requested my review copy of the game over a week ago and it just showed up in my inbox.

Amped to finally get hands on with this game. You guys seem to really love it.

Many of them are directly lifted off the Transformers Prime show as well, like the Star Saber or Bulkhead's wrecking ball.

@Monocle: thanks man.

I would have easily paid €60 for it even if it was only €45. Like others said I'd put it on par with Rising. Then again Platinum is my favorite action dev and Transformers is my favorite non-videogame thing (movies excluded). I still can't believe this game exists.

Which reminds me: one way you can clearly see the developers had a limited time and budget is the Stunticons. When I saw a challenge called "Defeat the Stunticons" I got excited cause I thought they had kept Drag Strip, Dead End, Wildrider and Breakdown as a surprise for that mode, but no. It turns out it was just Motormaster + random soldiers, then Menasor. It would have been cool to be able to fight them. Oh well.

Yep. Which is again, the main reason I'm hoping we either get DLC or a true sequel that fully fleshes these things out better, at least since a good portion of the work is already done, and Saito and co. would just need to fully flesh out what they had in mind.

And for crying out loud, when a character, like Grimlock's main gimmick is grappling, let him be able to GRAPPLE MORE FOOLS.

Reached Magnus difficulty with Grim last weekend, and already, I can see it's going to be much more of struggle in this mode and up if I was going to stay with #TeamDinobot. The game likes to throw more stuff at you that Grimlock can't grab, like Insecticons and the Hammer Bros.

Thank Primus he can at least get free Dino Attacks off his Dino-mode 360 + attack and Shove (as Monocle said earlier; though the 360 HAS to register a hit in order to get the activation).

Easily worth full price. I'm on my third play through and have put around 20 hrs into it. I'll probably eventually double that.

Thanks guys for the answers. I have played Bayonetta 1 & 2 for hundreds of hours, finished Vanquish multiple times and put more than 50 hours playing Rising. So I love Platinum games and love to replay their games (excellent combat depth and unlockables), but I heard that Transformers lacks combat depth, is that true? How is the higher difficulties, same enemies or remixed?

It's combat is at least as deep as Rising, check out Saur's video for a good example of the stuff you can do.

The combat is about on par with Rising (depth-wise and in the sense that Rising was also done on a limited budget/timeframe), but more similar to Bayonetta mechanics-wise (witch time, dodge offset with combo finishers, Bayonetta-style parry, transformation mode like panther) with some Vanquish additions (slomo aiming, good use/variety of ranged attacks). In a way, it's a mixture of melee/ranged (Bayonetta x Vanquish) that works really well. There's something really satisfying about knocking someone away with a melee combo, then hitting them further away with a car transformation attack, following up with a shotgun blast while you're driving towards them, then finishing off with another combo as they're still staggered.

Higher difficulties remix. The first unlocked higher diff already features some of the hardest normal enemies in its first fight.

Definitely easier, but Bayonetta 1 was an easy Platinum game. This isn't too bad even on Prime difficulty.

Watching Saur's videos I just found out that you can shoot between vehicle attacks, but I can't get consistency with it. Any tips?

Transformers: Devastation has more overall depth than Rising, and the enemy placement gets remixed from Magnus difficulty onwards.

Dynasty Warriors games have always been rather shallow to me and Zesteria doesn't look too hot, so you made the right choice in purchasing this.

What's the best way to make credits? I'm on Chapter 2 of Magnus difficulty, and I'm still hovering around 200-300K credits. I spend most of my credits on the synthesis shop.

Also, what's a good place to grind for new weapons? I know that the last two challenge missions on Magnus are pretty quick and easy to SS rank on, but that's all I know of.

I'm doing my third playthrough now and I'm still finding new things and trying out new weapon types. Can't believe how fun this still is, I don't even give a shit about Transformers.

I'd say the depth is inbetween Rising (i.e. not very deep) and Bayonetta. It's also harder than Rising for me, I breezed through the latter except for the final difficulty, in Transformers I saw quite a few deaths already.

You trigger vehicle attacks from headshots, it's probably that.

Today I discovered a move of Bumblebee that I did't know about. It's a context prompt (circle, like his back attack and Grimlock's grabs) when near a downed enemy, callled "saddle slam". BB gets on top of the enemy and pummels them. Is this common knowledge? Can others do it?

In my experience, the best way to make credits usually circles around at least one of two things (barring somebody finding a Kilgore-style exploit):

1) Selling off junk weapons and TECH you don't need. At least for me, Junk accumulates rather easily unless I stay pretty vigilant with my inventory, so I usually never stay below 1-2 million credits for long. And that's with me spending a few piles of credits for Repair Kits for the Menasor + Devastator fight on Magnus.

2) Equip TECH that helps with the former (increase weapon drops, earn credits when you collect Health/Energy Energon cubes when you're at full, etc.)

1. Select the highest difficulty (Magnus in your case).
2. Select Optimus (he has the most tech slots, a max of 5 until you've unlocked Prime difficulty.).
3. Equip all of your best rare drop+ tech (you can create rare+ 80% if you're on Magnus).
4. At the start of Chapter 3, ground slam the three circles with the hidden weapon caches. (equip enhanced radar tech if you want to see them on your map.)
5. Revert to checkpoint to restart the level and respawn the caches without losing your loot. In fact, you can quit any time and keep all of your stuff.
6. Repeat until you have around 20 uncommon weapons, sell the least useful ones on the Ark menu by proceeding to a green portal or quitting to the main menu.

A few notes on this:

- Rare drop+ tech is the key here. Pour points into Optimus' SKL stat. With Magnus unlocked, 64 SKL gets you five tech slots. With Prime unlocked, you get a sixth at 100 SKL.

- I like to grind by clearing out the treasures in the whole beginning area of Chapter 2, everything before the place with the Proudstar directly in the background. There are so many chests, puzzle switches, and groundpound caches. Maybe later I'll can find a map and show you the secret item locations I know of.

- Remember: creating a checkpoint by entering the Ark or advancing too far in a level will save the level state, so always revert to checkpoint before selling your stuff if you want to keep grinding afterward.

Wait.... You can buy moves?
The lowest entry in the Ark menu. There's a shop there.

Tips for SS trophy run in commander?

Mostly what weapons do I need and stuff
A big fuckoff hammer (S or SS rank and 5 - 6 slots, preferably) with damage and status/elemental effect-oriented enhancements. Melee attack+ tech. A Hyper Freeze Launcher with two lvl 5 freeze+ enhancements (or anything that slows or stuns enemies. Just make sure that with elemental weapons you're using effect enhancements like freeze/shock/burn so you get the effect on all or most hits.)

From the sound of what you played, I'd be willing to bet money that you're gonna enjoy Devastation alot.

haha, how much are you willing to bet?

I'm not a fan of Dynasty Warriors games, but I have played and finished Hyrule Warriors because I love the Zelda franchise and it wasn't bad at all. I want to play Heroes because I'm a fan of Dragon Quest games too.

Regarding Zesteria, it has been a long time since I have played a JRPG and I thought why not? But I agree with you, it doesn't look too hot. I'm going to wait for Xenoblade X on Wii U.

Definitely easier, but Bayonetta 1 was an easy Platinum game. This isn't too bad even on Prime difficulty.

Good to know.

Good to hear, I'm like you, not a big fan of Transformers, I want to play it for the combat.

Yeah I just read someone on page 5 or so mention buying the parry ability. I'm at the Menasor fight. I don't think I bought anything yet. Lmao I'm fucking stupid!
Oh man, some of those skills are really helpful! The one that increases your dodge window (like Bayonetta's Bat Within), the shove attack and 360 attack... in fact, they all have their uses.

Bruh. I feel so stupid, I rarely slip up like this with games! Just bought everything that they would allow me to and, yes, all of this would have come in handy. Already my whoop-assness has gone up like 30 percent.

As someone who just beat the game (on accident on highest (?) difficulty) a couple of days ago, I GOTTA say.... Looking at this thread makes me want to replay the game again. I'm usually a one and done kinda guy with games that have no multiplayer/coop.

The hardest bosses for me:

megatron
- He two shots me. Also makes giant fire geysers all around.

starscream
- at one point, he was moving so fast it looked like he was vanishing when my bullet time was up.

anything with menasor in it holyshit that man is ridiculously fast for his size.

Holy shit, doing that last chapter
Menasor and Devestator
fight without taking a single hit is one of the most satisfying feelings in the world.

So much rolling. Rolling while you roll so you can roll. They attack so frequently. You stay in bullet time in that fight.

This dude knows. I had that weapon drop and freaked out while screaming to my wife to look at the weapon for my Jazz that was ON MY TV SCREEEEN. So dope. So many TF toy weapons are in the game.
